«No, thank you," Will rested his palm against Harley's cheek unapologetically, and pushed her away from him.
"The offer is eerily tempting, of course," he sighed, and disappeared out of sight.
Harley's body was gorgeous and even tantalizing despite her slight exhaustion and all, but her loyalty to the woman she loved hadn't gone anywhere.
Will still loved only Kara with all his heart. If he gave her up now, he might not be able to forgive himself. It was like being held captive and your significant other was having fun with someone else. Br...
Will could move anywhere between Gotham and Smallville as he could with the Thunder God Tags placed in key locations. Will was a reliable unit that would not only support the scouting units of the Resistance, but also level the enemy's superiority in terms of combat power.
He emerged a couple times on other hotspots, and got rid of elite para-demons in a couple minutes, changed position, and was again on another front to help already other allied units.
Will's powers and energy were not infinite, so he often had to create clones in safe hiding places to collect natural chakra. Will was also able to take down a pack of para-demons in a couple of minutes, then move home, have a coffee, and go back on duty in a flash.
Thanks to Willard, the Resistance was able to find other survivors and recruit them into the Army of Humanity, which at this point was led by a combined alliance of Vanessa Wayne, King of Atlantis, Green Arrow, Zatanna, Karen, and Willard Light (and also Harley Quinn on the sucker because she's sassy).
Black Tower, Tyrant.
Will sat on the huge iron structure with his legs overhanging and looked up at the wide reddening sky over which the black and red elongated ships were hovering, covering the ground with fire.
«Did you put up the transmitter? - Vanessa asked remotely.
«Yes," he said, holding up a flashing black beacon to Tyranus.
The beacon might have been bat-shaped before, but now it looked like a hastily assembled piece of bling from her father's garage. It was because the materials for Vanessa's inventions had to be either stolen from Apocalypse or gathered with nuts and sticks from all over America, which was very inconvenient. In general, during the shortage of provisions about beauty was not even conceived.
When Will acknowledged the beacon signal, Vanessa activated the Bad-Girl Drive virus. The tyrant behind Willard's back came into motion, and turned its muzzle toward the Apocalypse ships hovering in the sky.
«The capture was a success," Will grinned.
A series of powerful flashes pierced the sky, and the Apocalypse ships rained hot debris to the ground like a meteor shower. The explosions sent out a shockwave, and hot air blew across Will's face and skin, smelling of cinders and something burning. Smoke clouds stretched leisurely to the right, blurring the urban expanse. Gotham City was ablaze with the flames of war.
***
of war stretched along the sea floor. Under the sustained fire of Apocalypse's cannons, a blue barrier shook, encompassing the entirety of Atlantis.
Diana watched this beautiful spectacle in anticipation of a worthy fight. But ever since Kal El had disappeared, her soul had been emptier than usual. After being enslaved by Darkseid, she had become more honest with herself and... now she realized that she should have killed Lois Lane and taken Kal El away by force.
Diana grasped her sword and walked along the seabed, hacking away at the many mechanisms created by Atlantis' engineers. They were bulky robots, resembling stone golems, but they moved faster because of the engines on their legs and backs. In some ways they resembled half-fish, half-human.
Diana caught the blow on her sword, and pushed the golem away from her effortlessly. She jumped up and unleashed a vertical strike, slicing the golem in two.
She had no equal on this battlefield, but Atlantis still held on, sending desperate humans and those mindless machines into battle.
A silhouette emerged from Diana's side, swathed in a purple cloak - it was Raven, whose dark, soulless gaze was directed at the golem lying at her feet.
«How long do you think this siege will last? - Diana asked.
«I don't know, it's my business to contain the enemy's magic," Raven said dryly.
A dark haze appeared on Raven's hands, which came off the brush and met with a wave of magic flying at them. The mages of Antlantis continued their desperate resistance, and thwarted any attempt by Raven to get inside.
«They're not strong enough to hold us back. Sooner or later this will all be over.
«If Lord Darkseid had allowed me to use all my powers, I would have broken through the barrier long ago," Raven said grimly.
«But he doesn't want that, because then you might kill useful material for the anti-life recipe," Diana explained, as if teaching a small child important basics.
Besides, Raven didn't know that she had once tried to attempt to unleash her power, but that her demonic self had gotten out of control and had forcibly extinguished all of Raven's magical power. Apparently, her demonic self had not been fully influenced by the mother box, but that was just Diana's guess, since she didn't know much about magic.
Why this was so was not clear even to Darkseid, but Diana guessed that the Overlord was simply withholding the truth.
«I'll lead our troops, cover me," Diana said.
The golems of Atlantis rushed into action, flipping Apocalypse's rigs and smashing the para-demons into shards. Seeing these pathetic efforts, Diana curled her lips.
"What's with the lowlifes?"
She made her way through a group of golems and guided her subordinates through a narrow tunnel that led to a cave beneath Atlantis. According to the captive, there might be an ancient secret passage that would take them inside Atlantis, but as expected, Diana was met by a prepared ambush of heroes.
"Just when I thought everything was too convenient," Diana thought.
The tunnel led her to an underwater temple with broken steps, fallen columns and walls that had numerous drawings of the ancient inhabitants of Atlantis.
Before she could walk a couple steps, she felt the water around her heat up. And then a green flash of fire flew before her eyes, which soon evaporated under the water. Only superhumans could do something like that.
The creator of the underwater fire turned out to be Starfire, who hovered above the ceiling and began firing a blast of fire that was hot even in the water. The Para-demons disappeared under the exploding bursts of fire. In the narrow corridor, they simply couldn't dodge Starfire's relentless attacks.
To keep her men safe, Diana jumped straight at Starfire, cutting her fire with her sharpened Valkyrie sword.
Through fire and water, feeling her skin burn in unbearable pain, Diana kicked Starfire in the stomach, thereby throwing Tamaranka into the ceiling. The ceiling collapsed and the water was filled with rocks and sand.
Starfire recovered quickly, but Diana struck again, preventing her from getting up. Soon Tamaranka fell in the fight, and unconsciously collapsed on the ruined steps of the temple.
«Too easy," Diana said, gesturing with her palm for the para-demon to pass further into the depths of the temple.
Suddenly, shots flew from the walls of the Temple, hitting Diana. Wonder Woman easily deflected the bullets on high reflexes and speed, though it was more exhausting than usual in the water.
She was attacked from different directions by a Beastmaster in Shark form and several sturdily armored Atlantis warriors.
«Weak! - Diana shouted.
After dodging the spear and shark's tooth, Diana took the golden lasso from her belt and with an unthinkable effort, spun it in the water, creating a water vortex. The water vortex threw all the enemies away from her, and hid Diana from the eyes of the others.
Nothing could be seen in the water vortex, but no one, not even the para-demons, could get close to him.
Superboy had been near the Resistance members the entire time, peering into the vortex, waiting for Wonder Woman's attack.
"How's it going so far?" - Zatanna asked over the earpiece.
«Not good, Wonder Woman is not an easy foe," he replied.
Superboy was a little annoyed at having previously fallen into Darkseid's clutches and danced to his tune. Thanks to the efforts of Zatanna and Willard Light, whom he disliked, he was finally freed.
"How humiliating," Superboy thought to himself.
"Focus on the case, Superboy. Diana is an experienced Amazon, but we have the numerical advantage. The Para-demons won't be able to support her as long as we keep them in a tight space," Zatanna said.
"Yeah, except Diana's already knocked out Starfire. When the underwater vortex is over, the para-demons will come in droves."
Zatanna was silent for a while.
"Where is Starfire now? Can you bring her to consciousness?"
"I don't know, I can't see anything," he explained, listening to the sea. The whirlwind was interfering with even hearing. - "I can't do anything."
The people on the sides of Superboy were firing laser cannons directly at the water tornado, but the bullets just disappeared into it without a trace, and it wasn't clear if they hit Wonder Woman or if she was somewhere else.
There was no end to the prolonged sea noise. Superboy waited for an attack, and it came. A golden lasso suddenly flew out of the vortex, ripping sideways and striking the Resistance ranks. Superboy tried to intercept it with his telekinesis, but it didn't work. Someone or something had blocked it.
Diana broke free of the vortex and attacked Superboy. They clashed in close combat. The Amazon Princess was not only stronger, but far more experienced, and Superboy knew it well, but his pride and his own exasperation made him forget it. Diana easily got him down on his shoulder blades, and the golden lasso bound his arms and legs tightly.
«Another weakling caught," she said, her lips curving in slight excitement. - Time to call it a day, kid.
Diana was about to knock Superboy out with a good punch, but her fist was intercepted by a guy in a black cape who appeared out of nowhere. The black cloaked man appeared out from under his thick bangs, his blue eyes confident and challenging.
«There you are, Diana Prince. I've been waiting a long time for you to finally set yourself up," he said with a smirk.
«Willard Light! - said Diana.
Slamming his eyes shut, Superboy managed to get a glimpse of Willard Light for the first time since their last meeting. Pale, confident, and cocky, that's what he looked like now. On top of that, his face showed either sleep deprivation or some kind of lazy fatigue, hinted at by the small bags under his eyes.
«You... don't get in my way," Superboy growled, breaking free of Diana's lasso.
Superboy intended to push Willard away from him to continue the fight with Diana, but before he could, he suddenly realized he was spinning in the water like a yula and slammed into the wall with a thud - Willard Light sending Superboy flying before he realized what had happened.
Will gave Superboy a glare and hummed.
«Relax, kid, you're not my equal anymore. - he said, running his palm through his thick bangs. - Come on, Diana, let's dance, shall we?
But instead of answering, Diana cleaved the water at his throat. The blade missed its target, slamming into the dense orange chakra around Willard's neck. He shoved his hands into his cloak and jumped back.
«What the hell is this? - Diana said, pointing her sword at Willard.
«Kurama's chakra, but that won't tell you anything. By the way, you should have watched your step," he said, nodding toward her feet.
Under her feet, Diana found dense tails of chakra that abruptly wrapped around her legs with force and fell to the ground. Diana only swung her sword to cut the tails, but disappeared with Willard, leaving no trace.
They moved to an unknown destination.
Superboy woke up a little later when someone persistently woke him up with their hands slapping his cheeks. He opened his eyes and saw the pink-haired girl in front of him.
«Starfire? What happened? - He asked, grabbing his head.
«Willard caught Diana...I guess," she said, peering at the dent in the wall, "are you okay?
Memories of Willard flashed through his mind. Superboy clenched his fist with effort and slammed it into the stone wall.
«That bastard!

«So the rumors were true. You're hunting all the 'subordinates,'" Diana said.
They stood on a tall tower directly opposite each other. The center of Metropolis. The clouds overhead were black as in a heavy downpour. A cool breeze blew against their faces.
Will's face seemed grim under the dim lighting, to which Diana grinned.
«Where do you keep Cara? - he asked.
«You think I know? - Diana grinned, palm at her side, her gaze slanting downward.
It was about a hundred stories high, and it would hurt to fall.
«All I know is that you're not welcome. But... if you decide to join us, Kara will be delighted.
«It's kind of contradictory. Kara's never been as narrow-minded as you are. How do you feel about being under someone else's control? You, a proud Amazon?
«Oh..." Diana grinned predatorily, clenching her fist, "believe me, I'm thrilled. You can break bones without any restrictions. Imagine, it's not uncommon for real warriors to enjoy bloodshed.
«That part about you I didn't want to know," Will shrugged.
The sky shuddered. A great ship appeared over Willard's head, and demons fell from it, many of them, noisy as locusts.
Following behind the para-demons, scarlet rays collapsed and embedded into the ground, forming a rectangular barrier that surrounded the tower.
Will scrunched up his nose.
«Wait, are you serious? - He asked, looking around.
The barriers were dense. He walked to the edge of the tower and touched it, the barrier burning his fingers like hot magma. If it hadn't been for the chakra-strengthened fingers, Will might have lost his arm. But that was the end of it.
Diana attacked Willard without response. The sword went past his neck and flew further as Willard grabbed Diana's shoulder, and they disappeared as the crowd of para-demons crashed through the roof. The roof broke through and dozens of winged bodies flew inside, crashing through the office floor, lower and lower.
Except they missed the target.

The shore at Lake Baikal.
Diana looked around at the dense trees. It smelled fresh and clean, the kind of air you don't find almost anywhere else in America. The lake across from her was so beautiful it was breathtaking.
Willard Light stood on the water's smooth surface and admired his surroundings with a smile.
«So, how do you like my homeland? Isn't it beautiful?
«How you moved.
Will frowned.
«I can move anywhere if I want to, and your barriers won't take me. Zatanna was the only one who could have stopped me, but she's with us now. By the way, Desaad could have done it, but he's John's," he explained. - Will you stop fighting? You won't win anyway.
«Don't be ridiculous, I'll never give up.
«La-ah-ah-kay..." Will stretched out, shaking his head.
He kicked the water beneath his feet nonchalantly, as if he was waiting for something, and turned his back to Diana.
"Opened up? How useless," Diana frowned.
Diana's keen intuition made it clear-Willard Light was mocking her.
Unable to contain the rush of emotion, Diana attacked from the back. The sword in her hands collided with two orange tails. She tried to sidestep them, but a third tail came out of nowhere and hit her from the side.
Diana's tail hit the water and she plunged into the lake, waving her arms and trying to regain control. As soon as she was out of the water, Will was squatting in front of her.
«Goshin Movashi no Jutsu," Will said, looking directly into her eyes, using a special technique to move Diana.
Before Amazon could blink, she found herself at the depth of Lake Baikal, at a depth of more than a thousand meters, under a pressure of more than a hundred atmospheres. And her body was in unbelievable pain.
***
While Willard was walking along the shore of Lake Baikal, Diana finally emerged from the lake with heavy breathing. The skin on her body was red and her eyes were closed, drops rained down from her body in a quick rain, falling downward.
«I knew you'd survive, you are Wonder Woman after all," he said.
«How did you...
«It's a replacement technique. I put a mark on you that will never go away. And then I just started swapping you with the marked rock I left at the bottom of the lake.
Diana slowly lowered herself to the shore and stared at Willard thoughtfully, as if she didn't know what to do.
«Do you want to talk or do you want to keep going?
Diana didn't hesitate to rush to the attack... and disappeared again. A stone the size of a hand appeared in its place and fell to the ground.
«All right, suit yourself," Will mumbled, disappearing and reappearing, only with a chair in his hand, which he placed in front of him. He sat down in the chair, breathing in the fresh air contentedly as he waited for Diana.

The Royal Hall of Atlantis. Arthur stared thoughtfully before him, wondering what move the Steppenwolf would make in their clash.
Vanessa Wayne stood across the hall, behind the many computers Willard Light had brought here. Since a small part of Atlantis had been damaged, they'd had to move key computers to the most secure location-the King's Hall.
"How unfamiliar. I never thought my people's lives would depend on a couple of children," Arthur thought.
«Diana is an experienced warrior. Do you really think Willard can handle her? She's the only one who can kill Superman in a head-on confrontation," Arthur said.
Vanessa kept her fingers on the keyboard. It was obvious she was thinking about something.
«In the past I would have said, "Your time is coming to an end, Old Men," but now I'll put it a little differently," Diana is without a doubt one of the strongest fighters on Apocalypse's side, but now she has none of her former greatness left. The things that made her a truly great Amazon are gone, along with her conviction and will that Darkseid has taken away.
Arthur hummed thoughtfully.
«Are you saying it's not her body that makes her an excellent warrior, but her disciplined mind?
«I can't completely deny Wonder Woman's power, but overall yes, Diana is now significantly weaker than her former self.
Arthur didn't argue, because children often carried something of this kind, but experience and time put everything in its place. Sooner or later Batman's daughter will realize that innate strength and talent are not things that can be so easily overstepped.
«You're right about some things, but no matter what she's become, Diana is still the strongest woman I've ever met. Your father even said that Diana's reflexes were better than Superman's," Arthur said, noticing the flicker of excitement on Vanessa's face.
"The main thing is that Willard Light should not be as careless as you are," thought Arthur gloomily.
***
Willard sat pensively for a while and looked at the sea surface of Lake Baikal. Somewhere in the distance he could hear the harmonious singing of birds and the sound of leaves blown by the wind. Still, this place was far away from the main forces of Apocalypse, which prevented them from getting here very quickly.
The strong armament and lined defenses of the Russian soldiers controlled any movement of the para-demons over a huge radius, allowing Lake Baikal to remain a surprisingly quiet place.
Yes, not all countries were as crushed as America, because that's where the brunt of the Apocalypse hit. Part of Russia was also wiped off the face of the earth, but the best of the locals could survive and adapt.
Willard didn't know the details, but he suspected that some of the superhumans had migrated to Russia, or the Russians had their own "super fighters" that he could only guess at.
It sounded strange and didn't fit in any way, but it was true - many countries continued to resist, and Russia was one of the first.
Of course, none of them knew that Darkseid had not crushed them for only one reason - it was not profitable for him to exterminate humanity all at once, because the Ruler of the Apocalypse used living people to extract the anti-life equation from the bodies of mankind. And once he had the equation, Darkseid would be able to subjugate the minds and wills of all living beings, making him the absolute and invincible Ruler of the universe. So why would he exterminate not only useful material for study, but also future minions? Darkseid wasn't interested in extermination like Thanos. Darkseid was interested in complete subjugation of everything and everyone, so that every living organism in the world would praise him alone. That's the kind of egomaniacal, selfish prick he is. Of course, Will didn't know Darkseid's motives, but he suspected that in addition to the subjugation of all living things, he had some lofty goal. However, when you think about it, subjugating all living things sounded like an opportunity to create Utopia, which Thanos was so eager to do. So maybe one desire to subjugate everyone in some twisted world wasn't so bad after all.
Darkseid's actions seemed to be a great risk, he literally prolonged the war, sacrificing resources and his subordinates, but his soul, indifferent to death and loss, knew no mercy. In his eyes, any loss and risk was worth the opportunity to rule over All Living. And Darkseid did not hesitate to demonstrate to everyone that he could afford that risk.
Unfortunately, Earth was the perfect place to store the Anti-Life equation. Maybe if it were any other planet, Darkseid would have destroyed it in a couple months, maybe days, but that wasn't the case with Earth. Earth was one of the most unique planets in the universe.
Darkseid immediately set his eyes on the perfect place for his experiments, and didn't hesitate to invade. Many people survived only because of his whim.
But it was this whim that played into the hands of Willard and the others, as it gave them time to get rid of Apocalypse once and for all.
Time passed, and Diana never showed up. Something had obviously gone wrong. If she died underwater, Willard wouldn't forgive himself, so he started to get nervous.
Willard didn't want to kill Diana, and he felt a slight hesitation about whether to pull Wonder Woman out of the water or leave her there. Diana's stamina and endurance were legendary... she was not to be trifled with, but his concern for the woman's life persisted.
«What a stupid thing to say," Will grinned.
A minute, two... she didn't resurface. Anyone else would have died long ago, but Diana was different.
The strongest woman on Earth with divine Gifts.
It would be hard to underestimate her.
Will knew this probably even better than the rest of us, for he had seen her entire life through the eyes of a devoted reader.
A smile appeared on her lips with excitement.
«To take it out or not to take it out?
Two feelings fought in my mind, to keep my favorite heroine from dying, or to fear her possibilities. The feelings were mixed and strong at the same time.
Diana had the gifts of the Earth goddess Demeter, she is literally as strong as the Earth itself. Much stronger than Hercules, and one of the few people who could kill Superman with her bare hands. To let her get close would be to make a fatal mistake.
But if she dies because of him?
Will could have switched places with the rock in his hands. The rock would be underwater, and Diana would be near it.
Worst of all, there weren't many rocks left underwater: just one. The worst of it was the fact that there weren't many rocks left under the water: only one.
«I really hope she's tired, or it's going to be tight," Will muttered.
One more minute.
Over a thousand atmospheres of pressure, even Diana must be struggling. Diana is vulnerable to things like vacuums and the like, and there's a reason Will decided to put her underwater.
«Okay, I can't do this anymore.
"Are you sure?" - Kurama asked, "The fact that you have one stone left in reserve kind of hints that she's waiting on purpose."
Common sense, but Will was nervous, afraid of killing her.
«Even so, we can't play this game indefinitely. All the more reason for me to come up with a new plan.
"Whatever you say. I'm ready," Kurama said.
Will threw the stone towards the trees swaying in the wind, and activated the Thunder God Technique.
Stone and Diana switched places, and the next moment the Amazon Princess was on the shore. She, as luck would have it, was conscious. Diana lifted a grim gaze to Will, shuddering with an eerie cold and exertion after which any ordinary person would have died in a flash, but this woman...
"Hey, did you say she might get tired?", Kurama asked.
«Forget it, I was kidding," Will said grimly.
Diana threw a rock, which by some miracle was in her hand, at Willard and ran after him. Willard calmly dodged the stone and stepped toward Diana.
"Really not tired. Ready for a fight?" - Kurama grinned, gathering chakra into his paws.
«Yeah, but first, I'm gonna move it back to the bottom....
"Wait!" shouted Kurama.
Will had left five stones with the Thunder God's markings on the bottom of Lake Baikal in advance. Each time he moved Diana to the bottom, he left one stone on land. Each time the stones became fewer and fewer until there was only one stone left at the bottom of Lake Baikal. This last stone allowed him to move Diana to the bottom one more time by swapping them, so Will agreed to take the risk of checking to see if Diana was alive or dying. But Diana outsmarted him by taking the last stone from the bottom of the Lake beforehand. When Will moved her to dry land to make sure she was alive, Diana took advantage of this and threw the last stone with the marker Will wanted to swap her with one last time. An unaware Will used a technique to move Diana back to the bottom, but instead Diana was behind his back and threw a surprise punch.
"Ah, I didn't realize right away... Shit!" - Will thought, turning to intercept Diana's lightning-fast punch, which cracked his bones.
"You could have guessed right away!" growled Kurama.
The blow from Diana came hard. Her fist was literally embedded in his palm, sending shivers through his fingers. If it weren't for Kurama's enhanced chakra, his bones would have shattered.
"Go into hermit mode. Save chakra!", Kurama shouted.
However, as soon as Will activated the mode and a wave of power spread through his body, Diana had already grabbed his arm and threw him to the side. It was surprisingly more difficult to deal with Wonder Woman's speed and blows than it was with Karen.
At a certain point they matched each other in speed and power thanks to the hermit's strength, but then it was as if Diana continued to gain power. She intercepted Will's blows and hit back, taking almost no hits herself. And remained silent, coldly subduing him with a stare. A normal guy would have chickened out, but Will was already married!
"Time to try what Minato was talking about," Kurama said.
"I guess you're right."
Will moved to the tree behind Diana's back, thus temporarily withdrawing from the fight.
"Hey, that lady is too dangerous. Sure you don't want to take her down with a bijudama?" - Kurama suggested.
"No, then she'll die."
"Tz, you're too delicate for this world. You can't beat her with your current strength and without powerful attacks," Kurama snorted indifferently.
Will sighed heavily and concentrated. He'd recently discovered something about his powers: they could become stronger under certain circumstances. For example, if Will was on the verge of death, his body began to strengthen dramatically. Will likened this amplification to instant evolution.
The first time John had hinted at this ability was when he had explained to Willard how he and Minato had gotten to the new world. Their souls had merged into one body. Will had thought he had only Minato's powers, but that wasn't quite true.
Minato had his own powers, and Willard had his own. Minato's power allowed Will to wield shinobi techniques, and his personal ability allowed him to... amplify those abilities at will, adjusting them to the laws of the new world. It was because of this ability that the chakra in Willard's body could influence people from the DC world. The chakra in his body simply adapted to any other energy, and if Willard wished, could take any form...
Will called this ability "Creator."
