Chapter 2 - A New Beginning

I don't remember who I am, not even my name. The only thing I know is that I died on a battlefield, fighting someone. Swords were clashing, arrows were raining down, and the screams of soldiers filled the air. As I slowly closed my eyes, my consciousness started to sink into a sea of nothingness.

My soul felt lighter and lighter as each second passed. My senses slowly started to become numb and unresponsive as I kept falling deeper into that unknown place. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't open my eyes; I couldn't feel anything except the sensation of falling, until...

I finally felt that something was slowly corroding my memories! Yes! That's why I couldn't remember my name or anyone else! Wait, no! No! No! I can't let it take away my memories! I have to resist it, no matter what!

My senses were no longer active, but my mind was still there; my will was still responding! I fought a war that could end everything, and there is no way I will lose myself in this unknown place! I will resist! I'm not going to lose again...

'Stop Resisting!! Your futile attempt will make it worse! Accept your fate already!'

'You have died, and you cannot take the memories of this life to your next!'

A deep, ominous voice echoed throughout my mind. My soul contorted in pain, yet I kept resisting. There is no way I'm giving up! I never gave up in life, and I won't give up even now!

'You're trying to go against the laws of nature! Stop resisting and give up your memory!'

The same voice echoed throughout my mind again as my soul felt a harsher pain. My senses suddenly returned, becoming even more sensitive as I kept resisting.

The pain kept increasing rapidly, becoming brutal. Suddenly, I sensed a source of light in that unknown place where I previously couldn't feel anything. Even though I couldn't open my eyes, my instincts were screaming at me to go towards the light.

'NOOOOOO!!!! You cannot reincarnate before you give up your memory.'

'Don't disrupt the flow of the natural law!!'

The voice screamed, booming in my mind as I felt something trying to hold me back. Something was wrapped around my soul—perhaps chains, or something similar...

I kept resisting it, forcing myself towards the source of light I felt. The invasion in my mind that was attempting to erase my memories grew stronger than before. I felt like I wouldn't be able to make it, but I kept forcing myself forward.

Suddenly, the light engulfed me completely. The chains that were trying to hold me back surprisingly vanished. The invasion of my mind stopped, and my soul felt much lighter.

Just as I was about to sigh in relief, my soul was abruptly sucked into a vortex. I sensed that my soul had entered a body, finding myself within its consciousness.

Upon entering the body, my soul was finally able to regain sight through physical eyes, the sense of touch, the ability to speak, and my soul took on a humanoid shape.

'Finally! I almost thought I would lose myself in that unknown place after my death. Still... I was a bit too late!'

I gritted my teeth, feeling regretful about forgetting the names and faces of my friends, family, and even my own.

'Ack! What is this—'

'Ahh! These memories!!'

I jolted up abruptly, my eyes opening wide to get a clear view of the small yet cozy room I was residing in. But the main issue was the memories of this body's original owner pouring into my head.

'This guy... His memories are a mess!'

To summarize, the owner of this body is named Yin Shen. He is the youngest son of the Yin Family, which is one of the top five families in the Eastern Continent of Chinxong. The current head of the Yin Family is their Matriarch, Yin Mei, who is also Shen's mother.

Despite being of the direct lineage, Yin Shen never awakened his powers or abilities. In the continent of Chinxong, there are people who awaken their Spiritual or Martial Veins. The Veins are categorized into seven different Grades: Low, Mid, High, Master, Supreme, Eternal, and Godly. Those who awaken their veins are called Martial Artists or Martial Cultivators. Those who do not awaken are simply regarded as Common People or Non-Martial Cultivators.

Mostly, it is the common families—like farmers, merchants, fishermen, etc.—who rarely have someone awaken their Vein to become a Martial Cultivator. But in Noble families, especially in the top five families, every single person generally awakens Veins above High Rank.

Even in the Yin Family, every single person—except for maids and servants—awakens their Veins above High Rank. The Matriarch, Yin Mei, has an Eternal Grade Vein, while the Elders of the family have Supreme or Master Grade Veins. However, Yin Shen had not awakened his Cultivation Vein, despite being nineteen years old.

Due to this fact, Yin Shen was never treated properly by his family. His siblings and cousins bullied him constantly, the teachers in the Yin Family never paid attention to him, the Elders didn't acknowledge him, and his mother didn't care if he lived or died.

In this world, the environment is survival of the fittest. The strong rule and the weak suffer.

When I finally went through all the memory of this body, I couldn't help but feel enraged for this guy. Not only was he bullied for being unable to awaken his Vein, but he was also bullied by his own siblings before they even had their own awakening.

'Those people are truly unworthy of being called siblings. This guy has two brothers and three sisters, as well as twelve cousins. Yet...'

My thoughts trailed off as I clenched my fist until my knuckles turned white. I looked around the small room, seeing nothing but a bed, a chair, and a small, broken table. That's it; there was nothing else.

'It's even worse than the residence of the servants of this family. Tsk!'

I clicked my tongue as I finally noticed the bottle of expired pills. It was clear that the original owner of this body had committed suicide by eating these expired pills. He might have gotten them from the trash, or someone might have purposely given them to him.

'Damn it!'

I got up from the bed weakly, walking in front of the broken mirror to look at my reflection. The image was beautiful, despite being raised in such a cruel environment. Tall yet weak, frail yet handsome—having silverish-white hair that reached my waist and golden eyes that shone brightly.

'No matter what! Since I have been reborn in this body, I will bear your Karma too. I will continue living as Yin Shen on your behalf. I hope your soul finds peace in the heavens.'

I vowed in my mind as I touched my reflection in the mirror, my eyes filled with determination and cold fury. Even though I forgot my old name or my family's name, I still remember most of my past life.

Just as I was about to turn away from the mirror, a blue window popped in front of my face, startling me and catching me completely off-guard.

{Welcome! The World System greets the Host!}

My eyes widened as I tried to comprehend the sight before my eyes

"What the...?"
