This person feels so kind—not as cold-blooded as the rumors say.
Shisui looked at Kakashi standing before him, and this thought crossed his mind.
That smile wasn't fake. It wasn't an act. It was a genuine welcome, and Shisui could feel that clearly.
"Thank you, senior."
"But your timing isn't great. Today's the designated rest day for Team Six. It's just me and Tenzo around."
"I know. The Third Hokage told me beforehand."
"Ah, good. Normally, your squad leader would be responsible for showing you around and getting you oriented, but since they're not here, I'll take over."
"Thank you, Senior Kakashi."
"No problem. Don't worry about it. Tenzo, keep your post on duty. I'll take care of Shisui."
"Yes, Senior Kakashi," Tenzo nodded respectfully.
"Shisui, come with me." Kakashi motioned.
"Yes, senior," Shisui replied, falling into step behind him.
"Senior Kakashi's acting strange today. Volunteering to take care of a new recruit? He must be in a good mood," Tenzo muttered with a shake of his head. Normally, Kakashi would lazily assign the task to someone else. Unless it involved a mission or a serious training session, Kakashi preferred to avoid anything that wasn't essential.
Kakashi led the way, and Shisui followed in silence.
Suddenly, Kakashi came to a stop. Shisui blinked in surprise and asked, "What's wrong, Senior Kakashi?"
"Nothing, really. Just remembered something," Kakashi replied casually.
"What is it?" Shisui tilted his head.
Turning halfway, Kakashi gave a light smile. "As team captain, I need to understand the abilities of my subordinates. Would you mind sparring with me?"
Shisui hesitated, then nodded after sensing no hostility. "Of course not. It's necessary. Without understanding each other's abilities, we risk misjudging in the field."
"Good. Let's head to the Anbu training room."
"Yes, senior."
Shisui followed eagerly. His blood was already stirring. Kakashi wielded a Sharingan, after all. Just how well could a non-Uchiha use it?
Kakashi's proposal wasn't entirely serious—he was mostly curious. Shisui was only glimpsed briefly in the records, but he had already gained a fearsome reputation. "Shunshin no Shisui"—how fast was he really?
The Anbu training room wasn't far, and they arrived quickly.
The space was about 500 square meters, mostly used by newcomers or for drills. Today it was empty—perfect for their purpose.
"Good, no one's here. Let's begin. Don't hold back, Shisui. I need to understand your full strength."
Kakashi's tone, usually so lazy, sharpened with a seriousness that matched the gravity of his words. Shisui wasn't fully matured yet, but his potential—especially with illusions—couldn't be underestimated.
"Yes, Senior Kakashi."
Shisui unsheathed his Kodachi. His eyes shifted from dark to deep crimson, and the triple tomoe began to spin with intensity.
Three-tomoe Sharingan at age twelve—Shisui really was a genius among the Uchiha.
Kakashi sighed lightly. Then, in a blur, his right hand drew his blade—White Light Chakra Sabre, glowing faintly with his chakra.
Shisui noticed Kakashi didn't raise his forehead protector. "Senior, you're not using your Sharingan?"
"I save it for missions. It drains too much chakra," Kakashi said with a shrug. Despite having it for years, he still hadn't mastered its efficiency.
Shisui didn't push further. He gripped his blade tightly, eyes fixed on his opponent.
"Then—let's begin!"
He moved first, tossing two kunai in a sharp arc.
Kakashi prepared to counter—but then Shisui threw two more, even faster, intersecting mid-air with the first pair.
Uchiha-ryu: Shuriken Kage Maneuver!
The kunai suddenly accelerated in four different paths toward Kakashi.
A grin crept up Kakashi's face—interesting. Only Uchiha could manipulate shuriken so freely.
A jolt of lightning surged from his hand, and four Chidori Senbon shot out, cutting the kunai cleanly in half.
Chidori: Senbon Variant.
What a strange jutsu—solidified lightning shaped into senbon?
Shisui was impressed but didn't pause. In the next moment, he vanished.
He's gone.
Kakashi's body went rigid.
Behind!
A blaze ignited in the air as a fiery blade slashed down.
Uchiha-ryu: Kaze no Ken!
Shisui's kodachi crackled with red-hot fire as he brought it down with precision.
Too fast!
Too strong!
But Kakashi wasn't caught off guard. His right hand surged with lightning, and his blade met Shisui's mid-swing.
Hatake-ryu: Raigetsu.
Slash!
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Three rapid strikes—flame and lightning clashed, sparks scattering through the air.
They pulled back. The tension between them sizzled.
"Senior Kakashi is... really strong," Shisui admitted, panting lightly.
He had confidence in his speed and swordplay, yet Kakashi parried everything without showing strain.
Seeing no other choice—Shisui's eyes rotated once more, and then—
Genjutsu: Kasegui no Jutsu!
Kakashi's limbs felt nailed to the ground. He couldn't move.
His face turned pale—Shisui had him.
"Senior, you let your guard down," Shisui said quietly.
"Oh? You sure?"
Kakashi's voice was calm. Suddenly, his pale face shifted back to normal. The illusion shattered.
What?!
Before Shisui could react, Kakashi's fist slammed into his abdomen.
"Gah!"
Shisui flew backward, crashing to his knees, clutching his stomach.
"You let your guard down, Shisui. You forgot I also possess a Sharingan. I'm not unfamiliar with genjutsu."
Kakashi's voice was gentle but firm. Shisui coughed, smiling bitterly.
Of course. Kakashi knew better than anyone not to make direct eye contact with a Sharingan user. He didn't fall into the illusion by accident—it was a trap.
"Senior… you're really something."
Kakashi gave him a crooked grin. "You're not so bad yourself."
