Chapter 23 - Z CHAPTER 22 : DECLARATION OF WAR 4/4

"Holy shit… That's the specimen we lost," exclaimed a technician, eyes wide in shock.

A heavy silence fell over the room.

The special zombie—the one that had vanished after the first wave of attacks—was here.

Gabriela frowned.

"Who is this man?" she asked coldly.

No one answered. No one knew.

She clenched her fists, then sent an emergency message to her security team. Whatever was happening outside, she wasn't taking any chances.

Back Outside – Sol and Léna

In front of the bunker entrance, Léna stared at the building thoughtfully. She could feel the tension inside, the fear of those who had once been her friends.

Next to her, Sol observed the structure with an amused smile, hands in his pockets.

"Well protected place," he commented. "But nothing lasts forever, right?"

Léna nodded, but her expression remained dark.

"I want them to understand," she whispered. "To feel what I felt when they left me to die."

Her voice trembled slightly, a mix of rage and pain.

Sol raised an intrigued eyebrow.

"And after that?"

Léna looked away.

"After?" She clenched her fists. "I want them to pay."

She raised her head, her gaze lit with a cold, determined light.

Sol smiled, entertained by her growing hatred.

"Then let's go teach them a lesson."

He raised his hand slightly, and behind them, the special zombie let out a chilling growl.

The time had come.

Gabriela's Message

The bunker, though luxurious, had become a gilded cage for those inside. The appearance of Léna and her mysterious ally had stirred buried fears.

But Gabriela Sanchez wasn't one to sit back passively.

Sitting in the control room, her eyes glued to the screens, she sent a coded message to her daughter.

Gabriela: "Meet me in the control room immediately. You need to see this with your own eyes."

Amber, who was deep in conversation with her group, felt her phone vibrate.

As she read the message, her expression changed.

"We need to see my mother. Now," she said firmly.

"What's going on?" asked Liam, intrigued.

"If she's calling us, it must be serious," added Loïs, already putting away her tablet.

Without asking further, the group followed Amber toward the control room.

Arrival in the Control Room

When the group entered the room, they were immediately struck by the oppressive atmosphere.

The surveillance screens showed the scene unfolding outside.

Gabriela stood in front of the monitors, not turning as the group approached.

"Look closely. What you're about to see might change your entire perception of this apocalypse."

On the main screen, the security team she had dispatched was positioned strategically in front of the bunker's entrance. Ten heavily armed soldiers stood in formation, weapons raised.

Their opponent?

The special zombie.

A massive abomination, taller and more imposing than the rest, with skin marbled black and gold, and eyes glowing with cruel light.

Léna and Sol stood behind it, silent, like privileged spectators.

"They'll take it down in seconds," said Gary confidently, arms crossed.

"We'll see," murmured Véra, more cautious.

The Fight – A Fatal Mistake

The commander of the security team gave the signal, and the soldiers opened fire in unison.

The deafening sound of gunfire filled the control room's speakers.

The bullets hit their target.

But the zombie didn't budge.

Not a single step back. Not a groan of pain.

On screen, they saw the projectiles strike its flesh… and leave no visible marks.

A chill ran through the control room.

"That's… impossible," Liam whispered, his voice trembling.

"Shit," muttered Amber, eyes wide.

Then, the monster moved.

With a superhuman leap, it crossed the distance between itself and the soldiers in a split second.

The first soldier didn't even have time to react.

With a blow as fast as it was violent, the zombie shattered his chest, flinging his body against a wall with inhuman force.

Blood splattered across the ground.

"HOLY SHIT, IT LITERALLY BLEW HIS BODY UP!" screamed Véra, horrified.

Panic spread among the soldiers, but the monster gave them no chance.

It grabbed one by the head and, with a sickening crunch of bone, crushed it with one hand.

The others opened fire at point-blank range, desperate, but nothing could stop it.

One soldier tried to flee, but the zombie caught him instantly, tearing off his arm before stomping him into a bloody pulp.

Powerlessness – Total Defeat

In the control room, a horrified silence settled.

The screens showed a massacre beyond words.

In less than a minute, the bunker's elite security force had been wiped out.

The last soldier alive, on his knees, tried to beg, hands raised.

The zombie showed no mercy.

Its clawed hand closed around his skull… and with a quick twist, tore it from his body, tossing it aside like garbage.

Reactions in the Control Room

The silence was deafening.

The surveillance feeds still displayed the mangled corpses of the soldiers—shredded, crushed, exploded.

No one knew what to say.

But everyone understood.

Léna's words, when she had come to see them, echoed in their minds.

"The wind is turning. Your illusion of safety won't last."

They hadn't wanted to believe it.

They convinced themselves she was bluffing, just angry…

But she knew.

She had seen what no one else had faced yet.

She had given them a chance to understand…

And they didn't listen.

Amber, usually so confident and manipulative, clenched her fists, eyes fixed on the screens where the zombie stood tall again, blood pooling around its feet.

"She was right…" she murmured through gritted teeth.

Loïs, usually so cold, backed up against the wall, her legs trembling.

"What the fuck is that thing…?" she breathed, unable to hide her fear.

Gary, always mocking, looked pale as a corpse.

Liam, narcissistic and self-absorbed, instinctively looked at his reflection in the black screen… as if to reassure himself that he was still whole, that this carnage didn't directly concern him.

But he knew—it was only a matter of time.
