"Wh-what do you mean?!" Sami shouted in reply, trying to squirm away from her.
He grabbed the hand that was pressing against his neck, trying to move it, but it was full of raw strength.
Lam advanced with quick steps and grabbed the girl's arm, a clear look of disgust on his face. His lips moved as if he wanted to spit!
"Lady Senn, don't kill him. Let's hear what he has to say first..." he said in a firm voice. "...He might actually be telling the truth, though I wish he weren't!"
Senn looked at Lam briefly, then slowly removed her hand from Sami. She adjusted her stance and swiftly retreated beside Lam, a clear look of anger on her face, her brows furrowed!
Sami gasped violently, so much so that he started coughing after the pressure. Finally, he could breathe!
Damn... How can this beautiful girl have such monstrous strength?! Is she a gorilla?!
Sami screamed internally, then continued coughing.
Lam pulled a black dagger from his pocket. It was polished black, like everything else in this desert. He raised it towards Sami, his voice threatening, a cold look of murder in his eyes.
"Tell us quickly... exactly who are you? Where are you from? What is your name? ...You'd better be honest."
Sami quickly retreated, putting his back against the wall. He looked at them in bewilderment, feeling terror sweep through his chest, fears racing in his mind. Then he shouted loudly, defensively:
"I'm just a traveler... I came from outside this desert... My name is Sami..."
Damn it!!! Sami screamed inside.
Do they want to kill me now?! I don't think I'm ready to fight these two together! What should I do—
But before he could finish his thought, Lam let out a pained scream.
"Damn it!!!"
He threw the dagger aside and swiftly launched himself towards the wall. His eyes seemed to glow with madness, piercing through Sami like a blade. Then he started screaming:
"Damn you... Why did you have to come at this late hour?! Did all those deaths deserve to happen for you?!!"
He spewed curses and incoherent words as he kicked the wall and beat his head against it. He seemed to have completely lost his mind.
Sami shifted his gaze back to the girl, who seemed to be in even worse shape...
Even with her strikingly beautiful orange hair and sculpted face, the girl wore a terrifyingly sorrowful expression. Her eyes looked like empty voids, profoundly sad... Tears began streaming down her cheeks, and her body seemed to have gone completely numb!
She fell to her knees, her hair tumbling messily over her face. Then she began moving towards him, as if searching for something to cling to, as if she had lost everything that kept her standing.
Sami didn't understand her reaction at all. Was it anger, fear, disappointment, or even hope? All possibilities raced through his mind. His eyes darted around the dark black room, his breath quickened, and his legs began to go numb.
Senn placed her hands on his chest, which felt strangely weak compared to her previous strength. She clutched his collar as tears fell from her eyes like a waterfall. Her hands trembled, and everything that was in her gaze before was extinguished...
Her lips moved with difficulty, and her voice came out mournful... It sounded as if it carried the weight of the whole world:
"Why did you really have to come so late?... Why were you delayed?... We were waiting for you all this time... All these years..."
Then her voice rose, deepening with bitterness and resentment.
"Damn you! Why only come now, when we had decided to move on without you... O Knight of the Moon!"
She began hitting his chest with her hand, but with almost negligible force, then broke down sobbing.
Sami was completely stunned, looking at her with bewildered eyes. He didn't understand anything; he couldn't even get his mind to work... the whole scene was moving faster than his ability to comprehend!
Sami didn't know what to do... He was in the middle of a black stone room, in the heart of an endless desert filled with stone giants, with a crazed mercenary angrily beating the wall, and a broken girl crying in his lap...
He didn't understand anything at all. In fact, he felt genuine fear.
Damn... why did the ordeal have to put me in these cursed circumstances?!
Truly... of all possibilities, life had always given him the worst ones!
Hell... how do I get out of this predicament now?
To be continued...
