The morning started like any other.
I walked to school while chatting with Leona, and when we arrived at the classroom, Kiera was already there, practically glued to my desk as usual.
Ryan and Nora joined us shortly afterward, completing our usual little group before the morning assembly.
Everything was perfectly normal.
At least, it was until Leo Taylor showed up.
His face was so gloomy that I almost failed to recognize him.
No, that wasn't quite right.
It was Leo, all right. The problem was that he looked as though he had aged ten years overnight. If I had to put a number on it, his expression was at least 2.6 times gloomier than it had been yesterday.
Seriously, what had happened to him?
Did his father announce another ridiculous plan?
Judging by his exhausted expression, that was probably exactly what had happened.
Leo dragged himself over to us, let out a heavy sigh, and finally opened his mouth.
