Chapter 627: Anything I Want?

Exusiai and the others had originally wanted to point out that they were still dealing with troubles of their own and didn't exactly have spare time to look after someone for Steven.

But when they thought about it, he had helped them three or four times already.

Under those circumstances, it was difficult to outright refuse.

As for Irene, with outsiders present, she couldn't really say much.

All she could do was glare fiercely at Steven before leaning close and whispering a warning into his ear.

"If you don't come back, I'll never speak to you again."

It wasn't even much of a threat.

After saying it, Irene turned her head away. She didn't bother saying goodbye, nor did she spare a glance for Centaurea's victorious smile.

Go ahead and laugh.

Let's see if you're still laughing later when I'm the one spending time with Steven and you're not there to play third wheel.

Centaurea, meanwhile, was extremely satisfied with Steven's decision to escort her back to the inn first.

Unfortunately, that satisfaction lasted less than ten seconds.

The smile froze on her face.

Her original plan had been for Steven to accompany her on a leisurely walk back while they enjoyed some private time together.

Who could have guessed that the moment he grabbed her hand, they would instantly teleport straight into her room?

She had completely forgotten that he could teleport.

And worse yet—

He didn't seem to have any cooldown on it.

As long as he wanted to, he could return at any time.

Suddenly, the whole situation wasn't nearly as enjoyable.

She had wanted to tease him some more.

Instead, not only had she failed to do so, but their time alone together had actually become shorter.

"Why are you making such an unhappy face?"

Seeing Centaurea's mood visibly sink, Steven couldn't help smiling.

Happiness hadn't disappeared.

It had merely changed owners.

"You said yourself that you don't like crowded, noisy places. Getting back early is better for both of us, isn't it?"

He reached out and gently pinched her soft cheek, which felt as smooth as egg white.

This time he wasn't deliberately trying to provoke her.

He simply squeezed her face until it formed a reluctant smile before leaning in close.

Very close.

Close enough that they were practically face-to-face.

"I'm only doing what's best for you."

Centaurea puffed out her cheeks.

"That just means you'll have more time to spend with that Liberi girl, doesn't it?"

Without strangers around, she no longer bothered hiding her true feelings.

No matter how she acted, Steven would accept it anyway.

"How about this?"

Still kneading her cheeks like a lump of dough and molding them into various shapes, Steven softened his voice.

"Tomorrow—or whenever you're in the mood—we can go out by ourselves."

"Just the two of us."

"We'll find somewhere quiet late at night."

"And then you can do whatever you want."

He offered it as a small promise.

A consolation prize.

"Really?"

Centaurea tilted her head.

"That sounds suspiciously like you're trying to fool me."

The dissatisfaction she'd been feeling vanished almost immediately.

After all, if today's events couldn't be changed, there was no point dwelling on them.

Looking at it from another angle, this arrangement wasn't bad at all.

Rather than forcing herself into an environment she disliked out of stubbornness, why not choose an option that suited her better?

She wasn't worried about Steven breaking his promises.

When he gave his word, he usually kept it.

What truly caught her attention was a different part of what he'd said.

Do whatever you want.

"Have I ever fooled you?"

Steven spread his hands helplessly.

"I didn't even lie about today's situation."

"Doesn't that earn me at least a little trust?"

He had never been particularly good at lying.

"Hmph."

"Then I'll graciously choose to believe you this once."

Centaurea blinked.

The earlier unhappiness was completely gone now.

"You may leave."

"I still need some time to think about how I'm going to torment you later."

A mischievous smile appeared on her face.

"I'm sure it'll be full of surprises."

Like an empress granting amnesty to a condemned prisoner, she waved her hand magnanimously, signaling that she would spare him this time.

With that promise secured, everything she had lost today could easily be made up for later.

More importantly—

Steven had been the one to say it.

Do whatever you want.

He had even emphasized it.

Which meant she no longer had to worry about him backing out afterward.

She had plenty of ways to make Steven suffer.

"Uh... just to be clear, you're not planning on buying things like whips, candles, and little red ropes, are you?"

Seeing the devilish smile on Centaurea's face for the first time, combined with the new outfit she had just bought, Steven immediately grew serious.

"The first thing I should do is thoroughly cleanse your brain of all that filthy nonsense!"

Centaurea angrily kicked Steven in the rear with one of her shoes.

At first, she hadn't even fully processed what he meant.

But after seeing the strange expression on his face, she finally realized the implication behind his words.

"Hmm..."

Steven stroked his chin and answered with complete sincerity.

"I'm usually thinking about where I can find some entertainment today."

"And when entertainment might come looking for me."

Unfortunately for him, before he could finish speaking, Centaurea rather forcefully shoved him out of her room.

How did I end up liking a guy like this?

My brain must have been infected by him too.

Blaming everything on Steven, Centaurea finally sat back down on the bed, covering her slightly flushed face.

Setting aside his proposal for later, she really did need to carefully consider how she was going to make use of the promise he had just given her.

As for Steven—

After confirming that Centaurea no longer seemed angry, he decisively teleported back to the street.

The entire trip had taken less than ten minutes.

Surely nothing could have happened to Irene during that short amount of time...

...Right?

At least, that was what Steven thought.

But when he actually returned and saw Irene behind the wheel of a car that she had somehow acquired from who-knows-where, charging recklessly through the streets of Lungmen—

He couldn't help twitching at the corner of his mouth.

"...What exactly is going on here now?"
