Chapter 579: You Can Call Me Grandpa Too

Lin Yuhsia did not indulge Steven's sudden bout of insanity.

With a sharp click of her small heels, she lifted her leg and kicked straight at his shin with the pointed tip of her shoe.

Did this idiot seriously not know that age was a taboo subject for girls? And what was that nonsense about being some "old cucumber painted green"? Did he not realize she was a genuine, flesh-and-blood beautiful young woman?

As for whether kicking Steven would make him unhappy… Lin Yuhsia honestly couldn't care less right now.

After all, he was the one who said she could just treat him normally. This counted as expressing her true feelings, didn't it?

However, the scene she imagined—Steven clutching his leg and howling in pain—never happened.

The guy didn't even bother dodging.

He simply stood there and let her kick him directly in the shin.

Clang

The crisp sound that rang out was less like kicking a person and more like kicking a steel plate.

"Hey now, if you're not one, then you're not one. No need to get violent," Steven complained casually. "Besides, you don't look like one of those fake-young girls anyway. You don't have that distinctive old-person smell."

He sniffed lightly.

Lin Yuhsia clearly hadn't used much force, and her attack meant absolutely nothing to him. Instead, he seemed more interested in the faint cool fragrance coming from the girl beside him as he silently confirmed his thoughts.

Yeah… definitely different from Kal'tsit's scent.

Much livelier.

Which probably meant the Rat King had a daughter late in life.

What a lucky old man.

Meanwhile, Lin Yuhsia only felt a sharp pain shooting through her toes.

Kicking iron was not a pleasant experience.

Her pretty face twisted slightly in pain.

"Did you secretly hide metal plates in your legs or something?! Why the hell are you so hard?!"

She glanced down suspiciously at Steven's legs.

From the outside, his build looked perfectly normal. Nothing about him resembled someone wearing armor.

Who would've thought kicking him would feel like striking solid steel?

"Well, there are harder parts of me too. Want to experience them?"

Steven grinned honestly at the pained girl before immediately earning an extremely disgusted glare from her.

"You—"

"—I mean my fists," he added cheerfully before she could explode. "What, did you misunderstand? Is there any part of the human body harder than fists? You should really study biology a little more."

Seeing the little mouse girl on the verge of blowing up, Steven quickly twisted the meaning of the joke, successfully dragging the awkward atmosphere back from the edge.

"Haaah… whatever. I'm not arguing with you anymore." Lin Yuhsia rolled her eyes at him irritably. "Anyway, that's basically all the information I have on those Siracusan gangsters. So? You planning to go over there and get involved?"

This guy looked honest and harmless on the surface, but when it came to teasing her, he showed absolutely no mercy.

Still, she was gradually getting used to interacting with Steven.

Just like he said—say whatever came to mind.

Being straightforward about her thoughts actually felt strangely relaxing. Honestly, compared to dealing with work normally, being around this idiot felt a lot less exhausting.

And now, regarding the possibility of going to stir up trouble with the Siracusan gangs… She found herself not feeling resistant to the idea at all.

If anything, there was even a faint trace of anticipation in her heart.

"Mmm… how should I put it?" Steven rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "After hearing your explanation, I kinda lost interest. This is a trial for the younger generation, right? What's an old man like me supposed to do getting mixed up in it?"

Contrary to Lin Yuhsia's expectations, Steven didn't seem interested in barging in and causing chaos this time.

This guy—who normally looked like he lived solely to make the world more chaotic—could actually behave himself for once?

Was the sun rising from the west today?

"You? An old man?"

Lin Yuhsia looked him up and down.

Sure, Steven was weird. Very weird.

But no matter how she looked at him, he was still just a delicate-looking young man around her age.

The words old man simply did not fit him at all.

Lin Yuhsia had met plenty of people skilled at preserving their youth over the years.

But someone like Steven—whose mentality, tone, and behavior all genuinely felt like that of a normal young man—she really couldn't believe he was pretending to act young.

Then again…

The way he loved teasing her was admittedly kind of childish.

—Though, come to think of it, old men and old women actually did enjoy doing exactly that.

"Of course. Don't let appearances fool you," Steven declared proudly. "I'm actually an ancient monster who's lived for thousands of years. Logically speaking, you should probably be calling me your great-great-great-great-great-great-grandpa."

He paused dramatically before grinning.

"But since I'm feeling generous today, I'll suffer a small loss and let you call me 'Grandpa' instead. How about it? Free promotion in seniority."

No matter how one listened to it, it sounded like he was blatantly trying to take advantage of her.

Naturally, it earned him another disgusted look from Lin Yuhsia.

If he wanted to mess with her, he could at least say it directly. Was there really a need to spout such ridiculous nonsense?

And after all that, his real goal was just making her call him "Grandpa," wasn't it?

Absolutely not.

Honestly, she wanted nothing more than to kick his leg again.

Unfortunately, after considering that the one who would suffer in the end was still her own foot, Lin Yuhsia reluctantly abandoned the idea.

"I'm telling the truth here, you know. Why are you looking at me like that?" Steven sighed helplessly. "Look at you. When I lie, people believe me. But the moment I tell the truth, nobody trusts me anymore. And somehow I'm the problem? Seriously, I was giving you such a precious chance to raise your seniority, and you just wasted it."

Shaking his head dramatically, Steven couldn't help lamenting the unfairness of the world.

What was wrong with people these days?

Nobody believed the truth anymore.

Was there no justice left in the world?

"Oh yes, thank you so much for your kindness," Lin Yuhsia replied flatly. "Seriously, can you act normal for like five minutes? Talk about something else. Like… where exactly are you planning to go wandering around?"

She pointed toward the busy construction site nearby.

"Or, if you really want, we can stay here and watch the workers clear the ruins. I honestly wouldn't mind. Sounds boring when you say it out loud, but somehow it's surprisingly stress-relieving to watch."

"Mmm… honestly, not a bad suggestion." Steven rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "But I was interested in trying Lungmen's cuisine."

Then suddenly, his eyes lit up.

"Though considering the current situation, I think I just found an even better idea."

A grin slowly spread across his face.

"As the saying goes, arriving early is never as good as arriving at the right time. Sometimes, I don't even need to go looking for entertainment."

"Look, the entertainment delivers itself right to my doorstep."

Steven raised a hand and pointed toward the entrance of a nearby tea house.

Lin Yuhsia followed his finger.

Standing there was a blue-haired girl clearly trying very hard to conceal her identity, complete with a face mask and sports cap pulled low over her face.

Unfortunately for her, the pair of iconic dragon horns on her head completely ruined the disguise.

Lin Yuhsia: "…"

Good grief, this idiot only knew how to find amusement by bullying cops, huh?
