Chapter 9 - Two sides of the same coin

"You look Jolly, did you lose your virginity or something"

A voice startled Otto who jumped from his seat as he stopped him humming, he turned his head and saw Jizen who was standing gracefully in his kitchen.

"OH MY Buddha...*Cough* Umm, what are you doing in the kitchen Sir guests aren't all..."

"You owe me remember"

Jizen slowly approached Otto's chair and took a seat, he gazed deeply into Otto's eyes and said:

"The colour of your vitality has become dense and vibrant....do you mind sharing the details"

' Are all monks like this...is he even a monk though, he doesn't behave like one...is he a Ronin perhaps'

"Oh it's just that...I want to visit a brothel soon so I am very excited"

Seeing that Otto's lips were stretched horizontally as he smiled, Jizen simply sighed as he said:

"That smile of yours... it's tight, strained, a real one lifts the eyes, not just the corners of the lips.

You look like a merchant trying to sell joy he doesn't own."

Otto began to shiver but Jizen continued to speak as he said:

"Besides, I can hear your heartbeat spike every time you lie and your breathing shifts shallower, strained.

Your muscles tighten, blood surges faster, and even the scent of your sweat changes.

Your skin pulses with tiny signals most would never notice… but I'm not most. So tell me again, Otto what's really going on?"

"AMITĀBHA!!!" Yelled Otto's as he quickly covered his mouth, his shock suprised Jizen but he remained quiet as he observed Otto's movements.

"Rumours have been floating around, apparently the gesu was found dead and the police have been investigating but nothing concrete has been found..."

Otto looked around and began to whisper as he said:

"The gesu were friends of Sato that lowly bastard and... some of the missing girls were also 'found' "

Jizen smirked but his face quickly shifted back to its original calm smile, not only did he make Sato a demon Jizen also pretended to be him , released the girls Sato hadn't sold and after all that he ran away.

"Where is Sato"

Otto sighed as he said:

"He is no where to be found, apparently he ran away....the government officials are currently looking for him"

Hearing Otto's words Jizen felt satisfied, His plan was simple and clear as day.

Causing chaos as much as he can.

Sato was THE domino and once he fell, everything else was set into motion.

Everyone in cahoots with him would make him a scapegoat and since Sato had a significant influence in the police force and criminal enterprise his disappearance would leave a giant hole that would be fought over by many.

"But it doesn't make sense though" Otto mumbled as he scratched his chin.

"Sato had no reason to release all those girls, if he truly felt guilty he would've confessed , exposed everyone who worked with him and then he would've committed Seppuku to preserve his honour"

Jizen raised his eyebrows as he listened to Otto, his deductive skills truly suprised him.

Otto simply sighed and said:

"This is not like him, what is going on here... what about my sister though"

"If you plant kindness, you will harvest peace, If you plant anger, expect suffering"

Hearing Jizen's words Otto couldn't help but analyse his demeanor, it was enigmatic, charming yet it felt out of place.

"Otto I have a question" added Jizen as he began to himself a glass of wine, he gazed deeply into Otto's eyes and said:

"Let's say your sister wasn't kidnapped, what would be your dream... no rather desire"

Otto thought deeply for a brief moment, he simply grinned as he said:

"I want a world where people remember they're human before they're nobles, beggars, or beasts....That's all."

Not world domination, not revenge, just the hope that dignity might someday outrank status.

"That's...a weird desire" Jizen licked his lips as he said:

"This is a hypothetical question and you chose that??"

"Well it is not just a desire but a dream" Otto simply smiled and said:

"Dreams save us, Dreams lift us up and transform us, my desire is my dream and I won't stop hoping, or fighting for it"

"I see"

Jizen looked at Otto with a gaze of envy, just as he was about to reply the system issued a quest.

'This...is new, I don't wanna do it but the boon is too hard to pass'

"Otto, you've pledged your loyalty to me and I shall deliver as the time comes but we need to discuss something first"

Otto simply gave Jizen a nod and he continued to speak as he said:

"This inn can no longer be just an inn,"

Jizen said as he folded his hands, eyes sharp like a hawk's. "Gambling is illegal. Everyone knows that.

The law watches us like vultures circling the dead one wrong move, one whispered game, and everything falls apart."

He stood, pacing slowly before stopping and looking at Otto. "But people still hunger for more, more than just the bitter taste of defeat or the dull ache of boredom.

So, I thought… we open a bar.

Not just any bar....Exotic drinks, things no one here has ever tasted."

Jizen smiled, faint but knowing. "Drinks brewed with pine and spruce needles, sharp and fresh like the mountains, sweetened with local honey or sugar sap.

Something that warms you inside like the Forest Essence they speak of in faraway villages.

Maybe with a hint of cinnamon or ginger, to make the tongue dance."

He lowered his voice. "While the patrons lose themselves in these flavors, quiet rooms will hide games

games of chance, of skill, adapted from stories we've heard from distant lands, lands of opportunities

Just private rooms where those who want it, can find it."

"Umm Sir I have a question"

Jizen turned to him, eyebrow raised. "Go on."

" Buddhist monks especially Theravāda and Zen traditions live with minimal possessions, often just robes, a begging bowl, and basic necessities.

Their aim is to detach from material attachments...are you no longer a noble Zen Monk who wants to grieve and meditate in peace"

Jizen simply stood up from his sit, looked at Otto with eyes filled with pity and sighed, he simply smiled as he said:

"The government will want a lot of money to keep quiet, let's not forget the taxes and you actually think I am doing this for money... your limited perception disappoints me "

Jizen simply sighed as he looked at Otto and left.
