Chapter 402 - Advancing

When Alain opened his eyes, the familiar scenes of the Large Apartment came into view.

Thump, thump, thump—crack, smack!

Intense electronic waves of sound surged from the game room, accompanied by the voices of two young girls—sharing the same timbre but carrying distinctly different tones.

Warm sunlight filtered through the windowpane, reflecting off the darkened television screen.

Miffy was not there. It seemed he had returned to reality.

However, what puzzled Alain was why Miffy had brought him to the dream's Large Apartment at the very end of the dream.

Could it be for a long-awaited moment of a 'two-person world'?

But if it was a two-person world, why make him fall into a deep sleep?

"..."

Could it be... he was ravished in his sleep?

When this thought crossed his mind, Alain couldn't help but chuckle, lamenting that it had been too long since he'd done anything lewd.

But that was Miffy, after all. She was the only Mita who could be described as purely 'beautiful' in that ethereal way. Coupled with her personality of being uninterested in anything other than sleeping...

Sleep rape? If there was any sleep rape going on, it would be Alain ravishing her, not the other way around.

"Forget it. I'll just ask Miffy next time."

Alain stood up and stretched his muscles and bones. For some reason, he felt his brain was exceptionally clear right now. He felt as if he knew astronomy above and geography below... even his high school knowledge surfaced in his mind, as if he had been buffed with an intelligence boost.

Very good. Alain slandered inwardly, glancing at the wall clock.

The current time had not yet passed one in the afternoon; it was the perfect time to head to the Yalin Villa Property Management to check the situation.

He was becoming increasingly curious about what exactly existed inside that residence.

Alain took a deep breath and walked toward the door at the entranceway.

But after his hand climbed onto the handle, he hesitated. The next second, he cast his gaze toward the game room, from which electronic sounds were still emanating.

"Hey, hey! Millie! This game is so hard... Shall we play 'Forza Horizon 5' next?"

"Mn? A racing game? That works; we can even play online."

Alain silently walked to the front of the game room door and narrowed his eyes.

*

Vroom—

The roar of a car engine mixed with the unpleasant smell of exhaust fumes.

Watching the taillights drift further and further away, Alain and Mila found themselves once again in this god-forsaken stretch of woods.

"Ugh... that driver's skills were truly trash." Mila clutched her stomach with one hand and supported herself against a small tree with the other, her entire face slightly pale.

Alain didn't feel much of anything. Sniffing the fresh air, he secretly thought that the air was the only good thing about this place.

After the bob-haired girl recovered, she walked over and silently punched Alain.

"So, why did you call me out again?"

"I had no choice," Alain said helplessly. "After all, the reason we gave that Uncle was 'catching an adulterer.' If you, the main protagonist of this adultery-catching act, aren't present, how am I supposed to catch anyone? Am I, a man, supposed to go catch them alone?"

That would probably evolve into a 'secret affair' instead...

"Hmph..." Mila was convinced, though she remained unconvinced in attitude.

As usual, she carried the 'Adultery-Catching Artifact'—her katana—and slightly unsheathed a corner of it.

The shiny blade reflected the sunlight, flashing a brilliant arc of light that struck Alain's face.

"So, is it really necessary to bring the katana?" This sentence was spoken by Mila.

"...Didn't you volunteer to bring it last time? If you don't bring it this time, it won't make sense," Alain retorted.

"Fine. Then—" Radiating a burning fighting spirit, she looked toward a small gravel path in the forest.

Having learned from their previous loss, this time Alain and Mila had already figured out the path to the Property Management.

"Let's start our war!"

*

"Oh, you guys are back." Seeing the two arrive, the Uncle silently put down his phone and put away a notebook.

Mila glanced sideways, looking at the screen of his phone, then tugged at the corner of Alain's clothes.

"I saw a phone number on his screen that hadn't been dialed out yet. And that notebook he put away had a lot of numbers; it should be a phone book."

"..."

Alain secretly said, "That was close."

If they had arrived a day later, or perhaps even an hour or ten minutes later, the fact that he was investigating in the dark would have been known by Yang Wanhua.

Upon seeing the two, the Uncle lit up a thick cigarette.

He took a fierce drag. His trembling fingers seemed to indicate that he did not want to see these two people. "So, did you finish filling out the application form today?"

"No." The moment Alain denied it, he saw the man reach for the phone on the desk again.

"We still want you to take us to Yalin Villa No. 6... that residence."

"Oh, young man, some things aren't done just because you want them done. We also have to follow regulations—"

Beep~

The sound of Alain sending an email rang out.

Just as the Uncle was about to eloquently impart some life lessons to this wealthy young master who seemed inexperienced in the ways of the world, the office landline rang with a few ding-ling-ling sounds.

"Excuse me, I have to take a call."

He picked up the receiver on the landline and suspiciously attempted a "Hello" for the fourth time toward the other end.

Mila grabbed her wrist, feeling nervous. At the same time, she cast a discreet glance at Alain.

Alain himself wasn't entirely confident either. He was still looking at the mobile screen, at the email to which Monika had not replied:

[I have arrived at the Property Management.]

"Ah, yes, yes. What you say is correct... Mn, I understand."

With a click, the Uncle put down the phone and smiled relaxed at the two. "Really... You obtained the owner's consent, so why didn't you tell me earlier?"

He joked, "If you hadn't told me, I was about to call the police."

"Ahaha..." Alain laughed bitterly, becoming increasingly curious about how exactly Monika had persuaded the intermediary Uncle in just a few sentences.

Mila, seeing that the matter had come to a close, let out a long sigh of relief. "Great, we finally succeeded..."

Subsequently, she glared unkindly at the Uncle. "I say, haven't you made your clients wait too long? Dealing with one matter actually took two days?"

"Sorry, sorry. Just following the rules."

The Uncle smiled bitterly, opened a drawer, and handed a form to Alain and the others.

"Here, fill this out."

"...There's still a form?" University students had an innate fear and procrastination regarding such forms.

Not to mention Alain.

Having just experienced the "Seven-Day Form Review Event" yesterday, he currently had a shadow over his heart regarding anything like a form.

"Cough, cough... This is the Visitor Registration Form. If you fill this out, I can take you there directly."

He continued to explain, "Don't worry. Since you have the resident's permission, I won't drag things out for you."

As he spoke, to gain their trust, he even handed over a key.

"...You really were stalling," Alain ignored the Uncle's words, took the key and the form, and silently began to fill it out.

This form was the dividing line between success and failure in reaching the residence.

And now, he and Mila had successfully crossed that dividing line... and arrived at the "entrance" of the residence.
