At that moment, Kyoya had only one thought—escape.
His body was sounding an extremely intense alarm, the alarm of death. He could almost feel the scythe of the Grim Reaper pressed against his neck.
And the reason for it all? The gaze of that arrogant Demon King had locked onto him.
In that instant, the Demon King seemed to curl the corner of his mouth slightly, as if he had taken an interest in Kyoya. That gaze alone made Kyoya feel as though he had glimpsed his own tragic future.
Gripped by the fear of death, Kyoya acted without hesitation and used a special item.
In an instant, the item in his hand expanded, releasing a black sphere of light with two rotating halos of unknown text. It swallowed him whole, and then the eerie black light sphere shrank to a point and vanished.
The entire process took less than a second, so quickly that even those around him had no time to react.
"P-President...?"
The voice came from a girl with long emerald-green hair and eyes of the same hue. Her curvaceous figure trembled in shock as she called out to her president who had just been swallowed and vanished without a trace.
So… where did Kyoya go?
In truth, he was still in the same place. He could even see the girl's lips moving—probably calling his name.
Did he just go invisible with some item?
No way. That'd be stupid.
In fact, Kyoya was now in an alternate dimension located at the same coordinates. This dimensional space was created by the item he used, forcibly generating a new subspace layered over the original.
The coordinates and location were the same, but the two spaces were completely isolated and could not interfere with or touch each other.
Yes, this was an absolutely isolated dimensional space.
In the past, with this same item, he and a few others had managed to steal some things from the divine realm of another world without being noticed, even as they passed through the gods themselves.
Unbelievable, right? To be right next to a god, pass right through their body, and remain completely undetected.
The item responsible? It was something Yazuki had found in an ancient ruin of another world. It looked like a cube, somewhat like a Rubik's cube, and they had named it the Dimensional Cube—a genuine divine artifact.
Of course, it probably wasn't created by some lawful-good god, since it had been shrouded in massive amounts of evil and darkness.
It was most likely made by a Demon God or an Evil God—a true demonic artifact.
They had spent a lot of effort purifying it to make it usable. Even now, after entering the dimensional space, Kyoya could still feel the lingering evil.
If someone of C-rank or lower came in, they'd likely succumb to madness and become a demon within a minute.
Once activated, the Dimensional Cube created a space about the size of a room. Its boundaries looked like soapy water mixed with ink, forming a bubble-like distortion—quite eerie.
Could one just walk out through those boundaries back into the real world?
Technically, yes.
But doing so would not result in a safe return. Instead, the person would be shredded into particles, as the misalignment between dimensions would tear the body apart, like being fed into a meat grinder—reduced to atomic dust.
So… would the Dimensional Cube be good for assassinations?
No. It has a major flaw—the space it creates is immobile.
Once it's deployed, it stays fixed. If the overlapping location in the real world becomes obstructed—say, filled with debris or objects—you're done for.
When the dimensional space is deactivated, you'd instantly merge with whatever's occupying the overlapping real-world space. Just imagining it sends chills down the spine.
Additionally, after returning to the real world, there's a one-second period of spatial instability, something they call a "space tremor," causing dizziness. How could anyone carry out an assassination like that?
For powerful individuals, one second is more than enough time to react.
"…Am I being overly paranoid?" Kyoya wondered.
Was he scaring himself? After all, that massive dragon was still there. If it moved even slightly toward this place, Kyoya would be dead. The dimensional space could only last ten minutes.
Even if the dragon didn't move, just a few attacks with a wide enough range could easily reach this area. If it blasted a crater, maybe that'd be okay. But if it altered the terrain enough to cause rocks and rubble to pile into the space's coordinates, he'd be trapped—and doomed.
"Damn it… Since when did I become such a coward?" Kyoya cursed inwardly. "It's all that damn Demon King's fault…"
He turned to glance at the Demon King's position—and in that instant, his pupils contracted violently, and his body turned ice-cold, drenched in cold sweat.
Because—the Demon King was standing right in front of him.
No warning. No sound. Just like that, he appeared.
Was it spatial teleportation? No… it was pure speed. Like a flash of black light, he had already closed the distance in a blink.
At that moment, Kyoya felt lucky he had used the Dimensional Cube.
But—was it an illusion? It felt like the Demon King's blood-red eyes were staring directly at him.
Could he see him?
Those crimson eyes, so deep they seemed to lead straight to hell, sent chills down Kyoya's spine.
And when he came to his senses, he realized—the Demon King's hand had pierced through his body.
Kyoya almost screamed. His hands frantically reached for his abdomen—only to find his body intact. His hand passed straight through the Demon King's arm. An illusion again?
Another terrifying scare.
Damn it. Damn it. Damn it!!!
"What an ugly and pathetic face. Like a stray dog. Where's that predator's gaze you once had?"
The Demon King's cold, amused voice made Kyoya freeze. The fear was creeping into his soul.
The Dimensional Cube's space was completely isolated—sound should not be able to enter. So if the Demon King's voice did reach him, that could only mean—he could touch this space.
Could it be the Demon King was also in the dimensional space?
But that didn't make sense.
His hand had clearly phased through like an illusion earlier, which meant the Demon King was still in the real world.
Why? How?!
Kyoya felt chills crawl all over him as he saw the Dimensional Cube being half-grabbed by another hand—the Demon King's. Before he could react, the Demon King had taken it.
"Do you know what happens if you lose this thing?" the Demon King asked with a faint smile.
That smile made Kyoya feel as if he'd fallen into a frozen hell.
"What… happens…?" Kyoya croaked, his voice hoarse.
"Ever heard of the Calabi-Yau space? Imagine mixing physical matter into that kind of space—what do you think will happen?"
What would happen?
Kyoya didn't even get time to imagine.
He was already in hell—personally experiencing the so-called consequence.
Perhaps the horrifying monsters from the Cthulhu Mythos were nothing compared to this.
