Chapter 9 - Change of Scenes

When Robert was walking through the hallway, he saw several portraits of the members of the Topez family.

He had seen them in the documentation while working the night shift in the library, as the police office often used the library's restricted centre to store their files and data under a contract with the Cecil family in the third decade.

According to the dusty records, which were dozens of bundles of parchments, he noticed that the Topez family was the ruling family in Cosford City and had a hand in trades and commerce of the other cities in the third division of the kingdom in which Cosford was located.

I should have been transmigrated into this family, not into this seemingly nobody. he thought depreciatingly.

As he walked through, he finally reached the lecture hall. He sat in the topmost seat there and saw the man at the podium—his flashy white suit and pants with a black shirt and purple tie, neatly pressed and shining out.

On the left end of the podium, a man was sitting, holding a fountain pen, writing something on a parchment.

That's the lecturer.

Suddenly, the flashy man cleared his throat and spoke loudly,

"All right here, Mr. John asked me to be polite, so I am going to go a little easy on you slackers!"

He continued,

"This has been arranged for some of you talented ones to be selected in the Alchemy Division of the Army. Only some of you."

He pointed at the man who was sitting at the very back of the hall.

"Hans! It's your name, right?" he shouted.

Many of the people there turned their backs and looked at the man. He had a sharp jawline, and he was wearing a hat, a black trench coat, and matching pants. He got up and looked at the flashy man.

"Indeed." He got up, his facial expression calm, but his eyes looked like he was ready to murder someone if someone even breathed near him.

"Raven," the flashy man said, "You're the only one worthy of knowing my name?"

He pulled his hand back; in his palm, which was faced upward, a purple energy bubble began forming, and it almost seemed to overflow with energy.

Raven looked at Hans and laughed. Why did you laugh?

Suddenly, a gray mist started to surround them, like a fragment of reality was being broken down, and in a blink, Robert saw he was standing in a crowd, sitting with all his attendees.

In front of them was an arena made of architecture with intricate patterns and lines.

"Duel?" Hans said calmly.

"What else? I sacrifice my three days of dimensional energy for you, Hans?" he said while laughing.

"Very well then." Hans frowned lightly, pulled out his wand, spun it, and pointed it at Raven.

Raven, still holding the mana bubble, turned his face towards the crowd with an uninterested look.

"Well, you people might face some problems, but I will be okay."

As he said that, he clenched his fist around the energy bubble, and it shattered, leading its white particles to leak out of the gaps of his clenched palm.

Suddenly, the scene in front of Robert started to change again almost like glass shattering. Now he noticed the dim light on top of his head and saw a hundred reflections of himself in front of him.

"I am in a mirror house!" he muttered.
