[Haruna's Perspective - Sainan High School]
Take a deep breath and imagine the pain of seeing someone you've always secretly admired being ripped away from your possibilities before you even have the courage to confess your feelings...
The day started like any other for Haruna Sairenji. The first rays of sunlight filtered through the curtains of her room, and the birds' song announced an apparently ordinary morning. She carefully adjusted her school uniform and combed her violet-blue hair, looking at her reflection in the mirror with a shy smile. Today would be the day. Today she would finally try to talk to Yuuki Rito without stuttering or running away.
BEEP! BEEP!
The phone vibrated on the desk. A message from her friend Risa asking if she was already on her way.
"I'm leaving now!" - replied Haruna, grabbing her backpack and rushing down the stairs.
The way to school was always her favorite moment. Those precious minutes where sometimes, just sometimes, she managed to see Rito walking a few meters ahead. He never noticed that she slowed her pace on purpose when she spotted him, just to be able to watch him a little longer.
THUMP-THUMP. THUMP-THUMP.
Her heart raced when she saw him turning the corner. But something was different today. Rito wasn't alone.
"Hey, fiancé! Wait for me!" - a feminine and melodious voice echoed down the street.
Haruna froze. Fiancé? Her fingers tightened around the backpack strap so hard that her knuckles turned white as snow.
A girl with bright pink hair was running towards Rito, waving her arms excitedly. Beside her was Asia, that recently transferred blonde girl, with her usual gentle gaze. The pink-haired girl - who was she? - grabbed Rito's arm with a familiarity that made Haruna's stomach twist like a wounded snake.
"L-Lala, you can't just shout that on the street..." - Rito seemed desperate, looking around like a cornered animal.
Lala. So that was her name. And apparently, fiancé too.
A bitter taste rose in Haruna's throat. She stood there, frozen like a statue, while the three disappeared through the school gate. Suddenly, the perfect day she had planned crumbled like a sandcastle hit by a relentless wave.
DRIIIIIIIN!
The school bell rang in the distance, pulling her back to reality. Haruna ran, with tears threatening to escape from the corners of her eyes.
[Sainan High School Classroom]
"Class, today we have a new transfer student," - announced the teacher, nervously adjusting his glasses. - "Please welcome Lala Satalin Deviluke."
SLAM!
The door swung open forcefully, as if announcing the arrival of a deity. All eyes turned to the pink-haired girl who entered the room dancing.
"Hello everyone! I'm Lala, princess of the planet Deviluke!" - she twirled gracefully, her smile shining like a thousand stars. - "And this is Rito, my fiancé!"
CRASH!
The sound of a pen dropping to the floor. It was Haruna's, who stared at the scene with eyes wide open like plates. A fiancé? A planet? What was happening?
"Wow, Rito-kun, you're the man!" - one of the boys shouted from the back of the room.
"Who would have thought that clumsy Yuuki would snag a girl like that, and moreover, an alien princess!"
The classroom erupted in questions and comments, while Rito sank into his chair as if wanting to be swallowed by the ground. Haruna remained silent, her heart beating painfully against her ribs like a prisoner trying to escape.
"Sairenji-san, are you okay?" - whispered Risa beside her. - "You look as pale as a ghost."
Haruna forced a small smile. "I'm fine."
A lie. She was anything but fine. She watched as Lala sat right behind Rito, leaning forward every few minutes to whisper something in his ear. She saw how Asia gently smiled at the two, completely at ease with the situation. It was like watching a movie where she had no role at all.
TICK. TOCK. TICK. TOCK.
The minutes dragged on like hours. Every laugh from Lala was a small needle in Haruna's heart. Every time Rito blushed in response to something the princess said, it was like a little piece of her breaking.
During the break, the classroom turned into a real circus. All the boys gathered around Lala, fascinated by the exotic beauty and radiant personality of the alien.
"So, Lala-chan, what did you see in a guy like Rito?" - asked Saruyama, Rito's friend, with evident jealousy in his voice.
Lala smiled, her green eyes shining like emeralds:
"Rito is kind and brave! He saved me when I needed it! Besides..." - she lowered her voice conspiratorially - "...he's very cute when he's embarrassed!"
THUMP!
The sound of several male hearts breaking simultaneously practically echoed through the room. Haruna felt her own hopes crumbling like a house of cards.
"WE DON'T ACCEPT THIS!" - shouted one of the boys, standing up with fiery determination in his eyes. - "Yuuki can't be with the alien princess! It's against the laws of the universe!"
"GET THE LUCKY GUY!" - another shouted, and suddenly a crowd of angry boys started chasing poor Rito, who ran through the corridors with a pale face of terror.
"Oooops!" - Lala covered her mouth with her hand, seemingly genuinely surprised. - "I think I need to help my fiancé!"
She pulled a small strange device from her bag that looked like a mix of a cell phone with a remote control.
"Peke, activate the Emergency Teleporter!" - she ordered, pointing the device in the direction where Rito had fled.
BZZZZZZT! FLASH!
A blinding light filled the corridor. Haruna, worried, ran after the others to see what was happening. She followed the sound of the commotion until she reached an empty room.
CLICK. The door opened easily under her trembling fingers.
"Rito-kun, are you okay? I heard..." - the words died in her throat.
There, in the middle of the room, were Rito and Lala. Completely. Naked. The alien machine had apparently teleported them to safety, but it had also disintegrated their clothes in the process.
"S-Sairenji?" - Rito's voice came out as a high-pitched squeal.
Haruna's eyes widened until they looked like they were about to pop out. Her face turned as red as a ripe chili pepper.
"S-sorry!" - she stammered, turning so quickly that she bumped her nose on the door.
THUD! "Ouch!"
"Sairenji, wait! This isn't what it looks like!" - Rito shouted desperately, trying to cover himself with his hands.
"Oh, hello!" - Lala waved cheerfully, seemingly completely comfortable with her nudity. - "You must be Rito's friend! Want to try teleportation too? It's fun!"
SLAM!
Haruna slammed the door and ran down the corridor, hot tears streaming down her face like rivers in flood season. Her heart wasn't just broken - it was completely shattered.
She finally stopped when she reached the school rooftop, gasping for air with a wet face. The blue sky seemed to mock her sadness.
"Why?" - she whispered to the wind. - "Why did she have to appear now? Why couldn't I say what I felt before?"
Her sobs shook her shoulders like small earthquakes. Years admiring Rito from afar, years gathering courage to talk to him, years dreaming of a future that now seemed farther than the stars from where Lala came.
"Sairenji-san?" - a soft voice called.
Haruna turned around, quickly wiping her tears. It was Asia, her green eyes overflowing with concern.
"Are you crying because of Rito-kun and Lala-san, aren't you?"
THUMP-THUMP. Her heart ached as if someone was squeezing it tightly.
"I... I just..." - the words tangled on her tongue like twisted threads.
Asia sat beside her, her face as gentle as ever:
"You know, I think there's a misunderstanding in this whole story."
A small ray of hope lit up Haruna's broken heart. Maybe not everything was lost, after all.
But from downstairs, Lala's animated voice echoed through the school corridors:
"RITO IS MY FIANCÉ! ISN'T IT WONDERFUL?"
And the ray of hope went out like a candle in the middle of a storm.
