The two were rushed through, panicked voices of the medical doctors, whom exclaimed, "They both received severe electrical injuries across their bodies. We need them on life support NOW!" The boy and girl were wheeled into the emergency room as quickly as possible, immediately being plugged into life support machine.
When the two began to flatline, the doctors did everything in their power to keep them alive, however, all seemed lost. However, despite this, their vitals suddenly stabilized, the doctors breathed a sigh of relief. They were also puzzled as to how the boy and girl had miraculous been able to essentially come back to life. They began to analyze their bodies and after an hour were somewhat able to figure it out.
"The girl's body has a rapid rate of regeneration, at this rate she should be able to recover within a few weeks." explained the leading doctor to the others, he cleared his throat a bit before continuing, "The boy however, is rather unique. His body seems to be absorbing the current flowing through him, keeping him barely alive."
The other doctors murmured among themselves, before long one of them spoke up, "Sir, does that mean he has an Electric Ester?" he asked inquisitively. "No, that wouldn't be possible, they were culled almost 300 years ago.... I doubt any of them could possibly still be alive." The lead doctor replied, though he also was just as confused as the others to the strange phenomena that had happened before them.
"Alright, everyone, continue to check up on them, ensure their vitals remain stable, in the event it fluctuates, notify me immediately, I have to make a report, Doctor Tsujikaze will be overseeing this operation in my place." With that, the lead doctor left as a female doctor stepped up, this was Doctor Tsujikaze Kiara. She lead the operation with a smooth flow, tending to the wounds sustained, constantly monitoring the boy and girl's vitals. Soon, the operation was finished at the two could finally rest. The doctors left the room as they prepared to change into their standard attire.
Two months have passed since the attack in Arcaea.
The murmured sounds of passerby's echo throughout the halls and rooms of the medical centre. Machinery beeped in consistent intervals as doctors and patients moved out and about. Within the room where the boy and girl had been, a nurse came for the daily checkup, only to see the girl sitting on a chair next to the boy's bed, hunched over slightly, her eyes sealed shut as she remained fast asleep Her snowy white hair draping slightly over her face, hiding some of her features.
The nurse albeit confused did not think much of it, she went to check up on the boy, who still had not awakened, she ensured his I.V. Bag was replaced and that the was stable. Sudden faint groans begin to come from the boy, scaring the nurse slightly as she fell back. The boy stirred awake slowly, groggily lifting himself off the bed's mattress, soon he was fully awake hair jet black hair, ruffled and messy, his eyes a heterochromatic verdant green on the left and ocean blue on the right.
He looked around himself, taking in his surrounds, "This is a hospital...." He thought to himself, "Could it be because of that thing that attack the city...Speaking of, how long has it been, I should ask the nurse." He processed. He turned to the nurse, his voice a quiet calm as he spoke, "Excuse me ma'am, how long have I been in a coma?" The nurse looked at him, her shocked expression from seeing him awake still plastered onto her face, "T-T-Two months, umm....what's your name?" She stammered, her questions surprising the boy as he thought she would know, "Kaminari Ryu, that's my name.." He answered, "Two months I've been in a coma you say?" Ryu asked. "Yes, you have endured almost 2700 volts of electricity coursing through your veins all it once, it's no surprise you were out for so long." The nurse replied, "I must take my leave now, the girl next to you wanted to speak with you." With that the nurse left, leaving Ryu puzzled, "What girl?" He asked himself. He look around, to see the girl who fought against the creature to be right next to him.
"She's here?" He asked himself, "Oh right, she also gotta badly injured back then.... I guess my injuries were more severe." Then, finally, the girl wakes up, glancing briefly at Ryu, a quiet curiosity within her gaze of amber. She stood up looking down at Ryu on the bed before speaking, her voice calm but firm, "I....just want to thank you...i didn't get a chance to do so before hand because of the severity of our injuries. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for saving my life."
Ryu gazed at her, surprised at how genuine she sounded with her gratitude, "You're very welcome." He responded. "I think now is an appropriate time to introduce ourselves to one another, my name is Kaminari Ryu. What's yours?" He asked. "Hanekawa Tsuki. That is my name." She answered. "Now I'm still here because I have another proposition for you." She said. "And what may it be?" inquired Ryu who seemed confused and intrigued. "I want you to join IRIS." She answered. Ryu's eyes widened in surprise, "You want me to join IRIS? What even is IRIS....?"
"A-Ah-" She exclaimed, slightly embarrassed that she assumed he knew what IRIS was, "IRIS is a private military organisation with the purpose of exterminating these mist like entities known as Shades, which is the large monster you encountered in Arcaea." She explained. "I believe you have the potential to become an excellent soldier within the organisation." She added.
"A private military? How does it benefit me if I'm constantly putting my life on the line to fight these "Shades" as you call them?" Ryu wondered. Tsuki seemed taken aback by his bluntness, "Well, you get health benefits, a stable source of income and a roof over your head. Would that suffice for you?" Her expression should determination.
Ryu thought about it for a while, wondering about the specifics of how this benefits him, although he already knew his answer, "I accept, its a major step up from what my life is anyway.." He exclaimed, his face tightened slightly as if to hide a sorrowful expression. "Excellent, I'll be here to take you in once you've fully recovered, I'll help you with the documents and such. She then stands up, her white hair slicked back behind her should as she leaves with a certain elegance, leaving Ryu with his own thoughts. "Tsuki Hanekawa..you're an interesting individual." He noted. A small smirk of acknowledgement appearing on his face, he went back into his medical bed, going into a slumber to help speed up his recovery as he mentally prepared to join the organisation known as IRIS.
