Chapter 5 - The selfish law

"Mr. Reis is one of the strongest powerhouses in the realm of Zeldia. His incredible magic skills and control have made him famous throughout the realm. Please come in, Mr. Reis," the teacher added gently, directing to someone from outside.

A tall, middle-aged man entered the classroom. He wasn't truly middle-aged; his physical appearance was more akin to someone in their 30s. He had dark red hair, and his strong physique caused a noticeable silence among the students. He was dressed in a dark long coat that covered his entire body.

After entering the room, he walked up and stood beside the teacher.

"Please, go ahead, Mr. Reis," the teacher said respectfully.

"Well, I'd like to introduce myself once again. I'm Reis Neiron, a member of one of the strongest families in the realm. I'm sure all of you are familiar with the Neiron family, as it's one of the most powerful," Reis said with a mysterious smile.

Neiron Family: The Neiron family is infamous, not only for their power but also for their ego and racism toward commoners. They are so arrogant that they always travel around the realm by teleportation, believing that setting foot in commoner lands would tarnish their honor. Because of this, they are widely despised by commoners and even other noble families. Just seeing a member of such a family surprised the students.

"Mm, so he's one of them. I can't believe someone from a trash family like that is here," Aizis said, surprised.

"Their ego and mentality make them the ultimate definition of trash," Marco said with a long breath.

"Even among other nobles, they think they are superior. That's how arrogant they are," Marco added.

The sudden appearance of someone from such an egotistic family surprised every single student present. They immediately began chattering among themselves, their voices merging into a loud, chaotic buzz.

Reis, however, didn't say a word. He simply kept watching in silence.

"If they're causing problems for creation and the world, I'll be the one to erase them, no matter their position or power. I will destroy anyone who dares to harm creation. That's my job," Raizel said, his voice steady and unwavering.

Reis's voice broke through their thoughts.

"Well, even though we are one of the strongest, we actually care about commoners. After all, they are still fellow inhabitants. Regardless of their weaker magic power, we want them to be strong enough to stand alongside us."

"Oh? So your sudden presence here is just to put on a pathetic show?" someone suddenly raised their voice. It was Maria again.

"Perhaps you're here to get something you desire?" she added, a challenging tone in her voice.

"Maria, right? A fellow noble. May I ask the reason for your hostility toward me?" Reis asked with an amused smile.

"Hostility? I don't think so. I'm just a little curious about how someone from your so-called 'strongest family' is here. Not to mention, your family is known as the most arrogant family in the entire realm.''

''You're so arrogant that you don't even set foot on commoner ground. How can someone from a family like that be here?" Maria replied, poking pretty intentionally.

"Well, I have no intention of replying to false rumors. I'd rather continue with my explanation," Reis said with a mysterious smile.

Maria didn't respond to anything.

"Well then, the reason I'm here is to tell you about the magic rank upgrading event. It's an event where commoners get the chance to become students of higher-tier families. In the event, you'll show your best capabilities in a 1-on-1 battle. Your magic rank will be determined by your performance. There will be multiple rounds and several chances to demonstrate your abilities. As you ascend through the rounds, you'll earn a rank. The champions, runners-up, and others will be ranked and ultimately chosen by a higher-tier family."

"What about the noble students? Do they have any reason to join the event?" Aizis asked with a smile.

"It's not your burden to join. If you want to skip it, you can simply ignore the event. For the nobles, it might be a good opportunity to test their capabilities as magic knights," Reis replied.

"If a noble student has to fight a commoner, you already know the winner," Aizis continued. "The commoners won't even get the chance to show their abilities against noble students. What are you going to do about that?"

"It's as I said: if you want to join, then join. If you don't, then don't. We're doing this for the benefit of both noble and commoner students. They'll have a chance to face actual battles," Reis replied with a smile.

"For both commoners and nobles? That's not actually the case. It's obvious that you'll use the commoners to train the nobles. Isn't that right, Reis Neiron?" Aizis said in a deep voice. His tone was a bit hostile toward Reis, though it wasn't often that he expressed such emotion.

"Hahahaha…" Reis laughed awkwardly.

"Think whatever you want. This is how things have gone for all these years," Reis replied.

"Selfish," Aizis muttered to himself, his face filled with anger. However, he didn't show any outward reaction to Reis's response.

"Well then, I shall take my leave. Do your best to prove yourselves worthy of being disciples of noble families. I hope you'll show us your best against your fellow noble students," Reis said with a mysterious smile.

As soon as he finished his words, Reis left the room.

"The reason for his visit was to criticize the commoners—what a mean-spirited personality," Marco said with a long breath.

"Well then, students, be prepared for the event. It's your chance to show your best," the teacher said loudly.

After finishing the class, the teacher left the classroom. The whole room buzzed with activity as students chatted with each other.

"I'm kind of surprised at one point," Marco said curiously.

"And what is that?" Aizis asked.

"I've seen Neiron family members before, and every single one of them was pretty mean and aggressive toward others. They mostly attack with harsh words. Despite their hostile personalities, this guy was different. What he did was criticize the commoners, but in a way that didn't involve using mean words. Isn't that strange?" Marco asked, his curiosity piqued.

"That's because he knows that indirect insults can hurt someone much more than direct ones. Basically, what he did was force commoner students to face internal suffering."

"That's something the Neiron family would do. Yes, I get it now," Marco said with a smile.

They continued their conversation for a while. During that, Aizis noticed that Raizel wasn't responding or saying anything.

"Hey, Raizel, what's wrong?" Aizis said a bit louder to get Raizel's attention.

"Yes? I'm fine," Raizel replied, surprised by Aizis's sudden words.

"What are you thinking about all the time? Is something bothering you?" Marco asked curiously.

Raizel remained silent for a moment.

"I'm fine. I'm just thinking about some ordinary matters, no worries," Raizel replied.

"No, I know you're stressed about something, aren't you?" Marco said, probing.

"Don't ask me further. I don't want to answer," Raizel responded.

"…Fine," Marco said with a long breath. He seemed a bit surprised but didn't show any outward reaction.

"It's not possible for me to understand him. Why is he so strange? I still wonder," Marco thought to himself.

"So, Raizel, what's your plan after classes? I don't think you'll be going back so early," Aizis said with a long breath.

"Do I have to tell you this right now, Aizis?" Raizel asked.

Aizis smiled.

"If you don't want to share, that's fine. But you won't go ahead without telling me, right, Raizel?"

"Think whatever you want. I'm interested in attending," Raizel replied.

"What about you, Marco?"

"If you guys have any plans, I'll gladly join. Otherwise, I have to attend a boring family event. I hate those stupid events. It's nothing more than a showdown of their so-called greatness," Marco said with a bored look.

Aizis smiled.

"You're bored with your family, right?" Aizis asked.

"Of course. The showdown of their so-called greatness isn't something I should worship. Sitting around all the time, doing nothing while other realms are causing endless destruction to ours, and then describing yourself as great nobles? That's not something I respect. They're so useless that commoners end up protecting them and their so-called nobility all the time. Am I supposed to respect this stupid, trash nobility? It's actually a shame for me to be a noble," Marco said with a long breath.

"Nobles and commoners were never different and can never be. Nobility is something that gives you the feeling of being superior, but it never encourages you to become better in a moral way. However, if you're a commoner, your current position motivates you to ascend higher and become better. But the scenario is different now. Even the nobles want to improve now. Why is that? It's because of the Law of Intensity.'' Aizis took a breath.

''The selfish law that forces every mortal to improve in the worst possible way. By manipulating their mindset, the Law of Intensity shows mortals the worst way to achieve their goals. Mortals lose their morality, their kindness, and their sense of self. Of course, both nobles and commoners always want to rise higher, and you'll never see satisfaction from either of them, no matter how much you feed them. At this point, you can't tell the difference between the nobles and commoners. But the Law of Intensity makes everything worse. Mortals lose their final bit of morality and cause endless wars," Aizis explained calmly, His voice held a hint of sadness and wonder.

"We're not excluded, are we, Aizis?" Marco asked, His tone carried a trace of self-hatred.

Aizis smiled.
