Chapter 241 - Chapter 241

The rest of the day passed by uneventfully, Eric finished installing the new tire on the APC and checked through all the computers to see which ones worked and which ones didn't. So Adam had him practice coding on one of the empty computers. Nothing wild, just some simple testing so he could put to practice what he had been reading about. Tomorrow they would work on the robots, but for the rest of the day Adam was done working so instead he put his feet up and relaxed.

The next day came and, as promised, he got to work on the robots. Eric still had far too much to learn when it came to programming but he could at least play competent assistant when it came to repairs. So the two of them got to work.

The very first thing Adam wanted to work on was Buddy. First of all, Buddy was still very functional, which is not something he could say of the others, except, perhaps, the Sentry bot, but that was a different beast. Buddy's only issue was his bottom half was gone so Adam and Eric worked to gut some of the other protectron parts they brought back and then refitted all the wiring, servos, and gears found inside the legs and placed them on Buddy's original legs that had the paintjob from Renaissance. This took a lot longer than Adam was hoping, mostly because Eric accidentally inverted the wires and it took them a while to figure that out. But it was a good learning experience for him and the fact he was there to help with the annoying parts actually saved some time, so on the whole not much time was lost.

Once the legs were repaired Adam reattached them to Buddy and gave him a test drive. Buddy proved to be just as nimble as before and got Adam's seal of approval. With one down all they had left was… literally all the other robots.

Eric and Adam split up now, Eric had already worked with the legs of a protectron before and Adam assured him the arms were not much different other than the laser emitter. So he set him to task to repair the other protectron from Corvega that only had one arm while he himself got to work on the Mr. Gutsy. He was itching to fix up the Sentry Bot but truthfully the thought of doing it was a bit intimidating so he was putting it off.

Almost the entire day went by while the two of them worked away at repairing the robots. Eric proved he was quick to pick up on things when he was inspired and had thoughtful and pointed questions. So Eric was actually able to complete a majority of the repairs to the other protectron alone with only a handful of mistakes. Of course the final repair had to be done by Adam, making sure the lasers worked and the reprogramming to ensure it functioned properly. However by the time the day was nearly over the protectron was up and walking around without issue. The Mr. Gutsy would need more time but by now Adam was convinced he could make it work again, which was great considering he had only brought him back on a whim.

There was one other piece of good news that he received that day. Remington had completed the repairs on the reactor. It was not entirely fixed yet, but as far as the radiation leak was concerned as well as the one year time limit on when it would break completely both issues were solved.

Adam took the time, at the end of the day, to finally enter the Reactor room now that the ambient radiation had reached near zero again.

"Ah! Good to see you sir! I see the message I sent to you was received well!" Remington said within a chipper tone and a modest salute to Adam as he entered the reactor room.

"Yes, I got the message Remington. I heard that for the most part the reactor is fixed?" He asked, curiously.

"Yes!" Remington responded happily. "I am pleased to report that the reactor is now running at nearly 93% efficiency! There is no chance of a meltdown or radiation leaks from this point forward!" Adam smiled and then looked at the room.

The room itself was about as unremarkable as could be. It looked similar to his repair room which he had set up in the maintenance room, but it had even less around. Basically the room was a wide open space with a walkway around the edges of the room near the wall that had a waist high fence surrounding a lowered floor section where a large ball made of two connected parts sat. The ball itself was held up by a rounded platform and it had a number of wires and tubes connecting to it. The wires then connected to a series of power transformers all lined up neatly side by side.

Honestly, how this thing worked was above his paygrade. In fact had Adam not gotten Remington, fixing up the reactor would have been a nightmare, there would also be no guarantee that it would work at all if he were to have to fix it alone.

Other than the impressive looking reactor, the power transformers, and the lowered floor in the center of the room there was nothing else remarkable about the space. It was almost disappointing how mundane it all was. But the knowledge that his Vault no longer had a dangerous radiation leakage problem was a massive win so he was fine with the lacking fanfare of a cool room.

"You did great work Remington.' Adam said, impressed as he looked over the reactor.

"Your words are more praise than I deserve sir!" Remington replied back with a flail of his limbs in happiness.

"No, I'm serious." Adam said as he turned to him now. "Had you not been here I'm not sure if I could have even fixed the reactor in the first place." He smiled.

"If you are happy, I am happy sir."

"Well just let me know if the reactor is in need of any additional parts or attention. I still have your original list so if any of the other things you asked for show up I'll be sure to bring them back for you."

"Very good sir!" Remington said before flying over to the reactor and checking the gauges. "Am I to assume you will turn in for the night, sir?" He asked without stopping his checks.

"Yeah, it's late. I'm going to be turning in."

"I understand. Pleasant dreams sir!" Remington said with a polite tone before Adam turned and took off back to his room to get some much needed rest.
