Eve left, leaving Adam standing there bewildered. Of course she was never shy about her intentions but he had never completely taken it seriously because he just assumed Eve was a teaser, which she was. However, that gesture was surprisingly… intimate. Far more intimate than her normal flirting. It left him a bit flustered. Despite the metallic feel, despite the lack of tenderness, despite she was an assaultron he was… definitely a bit flustered. After a few moments to clear his head he shook it off and then turned around himself to go relax after a dangerous battle and scaving earlier.
Or so he should have but instead he decided to investigate an area of the Vault he had actively avoided. The lab.
To be specific the lab where he woke up, the lab where he was… born. He had kept this part of the Vault locked so the residents couldn't accidentally wander in, just like the armory. After all he was still not exactly going around and advertising that he was a clone and even he found this lab filled with human sized tubes to be unsettling, lord knows what the others might think. However he still had questions left unanswered about himself, about his body, that he might find clues about in here, the place most directly connected to his birth.
He unlocked the door and then slowly opened it stepping inside. The Lab was unpowered usually, after all there was no need to power the lab when the reactor was not fully functional. However truly it was no more than a flip of a switch as the lights in the lab and various lab equipment sprang to life.
He braced himself for the inevitable panic but it did not come, though he was instead certainly unsettled.
As he walked through the now lit up lab he became fully aware of the disarray the lab was left in. It was very clear that a fight had occurred in here. There were still spent shell casings on the floor, there were indentations in the metal walls where bullets had hit, there were heavily faded bloodstains on a few surfaces. And then, of course, the room had papers and chairs and equipment thrown all over. He could only speculate what happened in here, but there was either a fight or a very bloody one sided beatdown.
In either case Adam instinctively picked up an overturned chair and put it back at the desk as he glanced around the room not even sure where to start to look for clues. There was no proof there were any clues here to begin with, but he felt like he had to try.
Adam spent a few minutes at first cleaning the place up a bit, at least so the furniture was not all over the place. After that he collected all the paper scattered on the floor of the room and put it in stacks on the desks, skimming each one to see if it was relevant.
The act of gathering and checking all the papers alone took over an hour, and in all that time he did not learn anything new unfortunately. Some of the papers did reinforce what he already knew, however, he was stronger, faster, and hardier than an average human but not beyond human limits. His body had a specifically modified gene to allow for quicker healing, and various other statistics and facts that were either too technical or too chemistry heavy for his brain to comprehend. But confirmation alone was nice.
The documents all had a Doctor Aegis' signature on them. It seemed like this doctor was the team lead of the scientists, which was interesting because he had never heard of him before. It wouldn't be that strange normally but this was a Vault fully operated by Second Life, his former work place. The files he read also indicated that the scientists would be transferred to the Vault from HQ. So, naturally, he should know them at least a bit. But this person was a mystery, which was even stranger.
However no clues to answer this mystery seemed to be hiding within the lab. Still, among the interesting things he did find, he found a preserved and sealed jar of the same liquid he was suspended in when he woke up. It had a translucent green jelly like look to it and it was labeled 'lazarus water'. It looked very similar to the jelly that surrounded Rae's brain, actually. But there was no file on the liquid in any of the things he had skimmed, though it was possible that it was in there, just overlooked, however. He also found a schematic for some sort of high energy laser rifle prototype. It was strange, after all, this was a Vault based on cloning, not laser weapons research. So maybe it was just a passion project of one of the scientists? He could not say for certain. Still, the schematics were detailed enough that, even he, the non scientist, was able to feel reasonably confident it could work if he were to follow through. So he decided to keep it for now. Maybe he could make it later when he had time. But that time was not now.
However now that he had picked the place up a bit and exhausted all other options there was only one left. The computers.
It truly was the obvious choice, after all, why write things down when you can type it out? But he already knew that there was an attempt to wipe the data in the Vault that only partially succeeded. There was a chance that he could find the information in the computers, but he felt it worthwhile to exhaust the other options first.
So with his mind made up he activated the first terminal, and found it empty. It was disappointing but this lab had a plethora of computers, he was certain at least one of them might have something worth reading. So he continued on.
Second computer, wiped. Third computer, scrambled and full of errors rendering it illegible. The fourth computer had nothing more than the same exact information he had read at Second Life making it meaningless to him. The fifth computer, however, was different.
As he booted the fifth computer up he was met with a screen other than pure green. Options.
