Adam did as Eve ordered, ducking down quickly and swiftly, and as it turned out, not a moment too soon. A beam of brilliant red cut through the air a moment later in a sweeping motion that cut off the tail of the radscorpion.
The stinger landed on the ground a moment later, kicking up dust from the dirt as it did. The radscorpion reared back in terrible pain giving Adam the space to maneuver past it. It did try to swipe at him but he managed to dodge it well enough. It seemed to be deadset on Adam still though, despite Eve's attack. Perhaps because she blended in with the piles of scrap? If he had said that out loud Eve would have been upset, good thing it was just a passing thought. After all, it was rude.
As he ran, the scorpion still after him Pearl ran forward with the super sledge in hand and swung down hard on the Radscorpion causing the scrap in the area to shake a tiny bit and one smaller pile to even collapse under the shockwave. Its Exoskeleton cracked under the pressure but it still was not giving up. It batted Pearl away with the back of its pincer sending her flying a few feet away.
But Adam had a goal now, he realized where he was, he was back near the chainlink where they had entered.
The radscorpion, however, seemed to have no intention to let him enact his hastily constructed plan. Luckily the one person who Adam had not seen at all since the fight began showed up at this critical moment, just before he was about to be slammed. Salvatore.
A 40mm grenade round flew through the air and then slammed into the radscorpion hard enough to throw it against the pile of scrap next to it.
"Get moving kid! I got your back!" Salvatore shouted as he loaded another round into the grenade rifle and fired again. Before they had come here one of the things Salvatore took with him was the grenade rifle Adam had found in the FRS and stored in the armory. In addition he himself had a lot of ammo for it with his own stockpile he brought back from Naper. Adam thought it was excessive but it seemed to be paying out dividends now.
Adam ran past Salvatore as he fired a second grenade at the giant radscorpion which, unfortunately, glanced off its exoskeleton and blew up in the air. The shrapnel from the grenade harmlessly tinked off the hardened carapace of the radscorpion but finally, it was enough to get the radscorpion to stop chasing after Adam. Unfortunately now its attention was on Salvatore.
Salvatore was undaunted as he loaded another round into the rifle as a spear flew over his shoulder and stopped the further advance of the radscorpion by implanting itself in its mouth, one of its few weak spots. This was all Adam could see before he arrived at his destination, the APC.
Adam quickly hopped into the cockpit, turned the key, and hit the gas, speeding through the tattered gate at full speed as he was quick to rejoin the battle. There he saw the radscorpion looking incredibly worse for wear, it was clear it was dying, but not fast enough to not be a threat. So Adam carried through and charged the APC straight into the side of the giant monster full speed, sending it careening into a pile of scrap.
Adam quickly slammed on the break, threw it in reverse, and backed up a bit after which he quickly jumped into the gunner's seat and looked through the scope. The radscorpion was still getting back to a fighting pose, reeling from the full force hit of the APC and showing cracks in its armor, and then Adam fired the last round he had out of the 78mm cannon at the front, straight through the center mass of the creature, killing it instantly in a gory and violent explosion that left more of its carcass intact than he would have guessed. It was over, finally.
Adam turned off the car and then popped out.
"Everyone alright?" He called out to the group that was variously licking their wounds or checking their gear.
"I might need a little tune up from you later cutie, but I am fine~" Eve said with a sultry tone as she dusted herself off and walked over.
"I'm fine kid, took down a number of them from the other side before I had a chance to rejoin you all, none got close." He said as he shouldered the grenade rifle.
"I am fine, some light cuts but nothing to be concerned about." Deccanus reported as he pulled out some healing balm and rubbed it on his wounds.
"Pearl not feel great." Pearl said as she walked over now, covered in cuts, stabs, bruises, and battle damage.
"Pearl." Adam said as he hopped out of the APC and then reached into his bag. "Here, take this." He said as he pulled out a stimpack. Pearl looked at it confused.
"What is?" She asked, confused as she took it in her hand.
"It's a stimpack. It will help heal your wounds." Adam explained patiently.
"How does Pearl use tiny thing to heal Pearl?" She asked again. Adam nodded and then took it back from her and then gently injected the needle into her skin. The skin was tough but the needle was tougher and, after a few moments, she was already looking better, though she clearly needed to shower when they got back.
"Pearl feel better!" She said happily as she smiled at Adam.
"I'm happy to hear that Pearl." He smiled back.
"Are all your scaving runs this exciting?~" Eve asked as she walked over. "I have only been out with you three times and thrice we have gotten into big battles. You must have some terrible luck." She said with a flirty tone as per usual. Adam chuckled.
"I don't know, I somehow keep ending up in fights, from what I've heard from others, scavers aren't supposed to be in danger all the time like I am."
"That's true." Eve said as she put a claw on her hip. "Back when I used to run solo the biggest danger was boredom, lots of empty buildings with nothing inside aside from the ash of the old world." She shrugged. "But this is far more exciting."
"I mean my luck with enemies is bad. I always seem to find new foes, but I usually have good luck with finding loot so maybe it's just my scaver trait. Higher likelihood to encounter enemies but greater luck at finding loot?" He joked.
"Maybe, but suffice it to say I already don't regret coming with you~" She then put a claw gently on Adam's cheek. "Now if I can only convince you to-" She started before Salvatore interrupted.
"Alright enough flirting we got work to do, right kid?" He said with a cigarette in his mouth.
"Yeah, we still have the list of things to find, we got our work cut out for us. Lets just hope that this fight was worth our time."
