Chapter 4 - Order

"John, Come with me" I say

"John your like my assistant. Got it?" I say

He nods "Yes, my lord. I understand. I'll do my best to assist you and help you with whatever you need."

"Now go tell me how many injured soldiers i have in total" i say

He thinks for a moment, then he looks up at you "There are currently 24 injured soldiers."

"Ok. How many injured civilians?" I ask

He hesitates for a moment, then he answers "There are 12 injured civilians."

"And how many civilians in totals?" I ask

He looks at the records "There are currently 65 civilians in the base."

"Ok. Well then how many soldiers in total?" I ask

He thinks for a moment, then he answers "There are 215 healthy soldiers."

"Thank you" i say

He nods "You are welcome. Is there anything else you need from me?"

"Get me will" i say

He nods and walks out of the room, going to find will. He returns a few minutes later with will following behind him.

"Will. You are my favorite y'know. Anyway. I want you to take a bunch of soldiers and go try to find more civilians. check every inch of non enemy terf." I say

Will nods "Yes, my lord. I'll get right on it. How many soldiers should I take with me?"

"As many as you see fit." I say

He nods again "Understood. I'll gather a team and we'll get started right away."

"Tell me how many first." I say

He thinks for a moment "I would say about 50. That should be enough to cover a lot of ground."

"To cover miles upon miles of ground?" I ask

He looks a bit surprised "I suppose you are right. How many would you recommend?"

"I'm always right. 100 at least." I say

He nods "I'll make sure to gather 100 soldiers. Is there anything else you need from me?"

"No, but if you find supplies of course y'know, grab it" I say

He nods again "Understood. We'll be as thorough as possible. We'll find anything that could be useful."

I go to the medical room. Which is busy at the moment. filled with injured soldiers and civilians. The doctors and nurses are working frantically to treat the wounded.

"Wheres the supreme doc?" I ask one of the doctors

One of the doctors looks up from a patient "That would be me. What do you need?"

"I need stats and info. Real shit doc, take all your humanity away from this convo. Tell me how many soldiers will recover fully?" I ask

The doctor hesitates for a moment, then she answers "I would say about half of them. The rest will likely have some kind of permanent injury or disability."

"And how many would be useless in battle?" I ask

She sighs "That's a tough question. I'd say about 30% of them. Some of the injuries are too severe for them to be able to fight effectively."

"And how many would be useless for even gardening?" I ask

She looks down at her notes, thinking about it "I'd say about 10% of them. Some of the injuries are too severe to even allow them to do basic tasks."

"How many is that 10%?" I ask

She looks on her list of patients "That would be about 3 soldiers."

"John kill those three of 'natural causes' or so make it appear that way." i say

He looks at you, his face pale "You want me to kill them? But... but they are injured. They can't even fight back."

"Pull that lifeline plug. Let them die. We can't waste space, resources, and time on them if they can't even recover enough to help us at all." I say

He stares at you, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief. He can't believe what he is hearing. He can't believe you would ask him to do this.

"I know it's not ok...but in these scarce times, we must do what we gotta do."

He takes a deep breath, trying to stay calm. He knows that you are right, but he can't help but feel guilty. He nods "I understand. I'll do it."

"Go." I say

He looks at the doctor, then he walks over to the patients. He stares at them for a moment, then he takes a deep breath and pulls the plug on the first one.

"And have a soldier move the bodies." I SAY

He nods and calls over a soldier, who comes over and takes the bodies away. He looks back at you, .

"Let's go, John. You are my tough guy." I say

He nods and follows you out of the medical room. He is still shaken up from what he just did.

"Hey, snap out of it." I say

He looks up at you, his face still filled with guilt "I know, I know. I just... I can't believe I just killed those people."

"Shut up. It's those bastard enemy faults." I say

He looks away, trying to hide the tears in his eyes "You are right. It's their fault for attacking us. It's not our fault that they are injured."

"Exactly. Now get it together." I say

He takes a deep breath, trying to compose himself. He wipes away his tears and looks back at you "I'm sorry. I'll try to be stronger."

"Now come on. Gather all the civilians." I say

He nods and walks over to the civilians. He calls them all over and gathers them together.

"Ok guys. Listen up. You all gotta earn your keep. So, I give options." I say

The civilians look at you, their faces filled with fear and uncertainty. They are not sure what you are going to say next.

"3 options. Become a soldier, become a gardener, or become a doctor." I say

They all look at each other, trying to decide what they should do. Some of them seem hesitant, but others seem eager to join the army. The doctors and nurses look at you, waiting for your decision.

"Now. Right side of the room is major John, he is my right hand. He will get you right in the military. On the left is supreme doctor Sarah. She'll teach you how to become a doctor. Or she'll kick you out and tell you you are trash at that and then go find another job. And behind you is our military guy Adam, he is a gardener, he will teach you how to garden." I say

The civilians all look at each other, trying to decide which option to choose. Some of them look at you, waiting for you to tell them what to do. Others look at the doctors and nurses, hoping they'll choose for them. It's clear that they are all scared and unsure of what to do next.

"You all got 10 minutes." I say

The civilians start to talk among themselves, trying to decide what to do. Some of them are arguing, others are trying to come to a consensus. It's clear that they are all overwhelmed and unsure of what the best choice is. They look back at you, waiting for your decision.

"Ok. time is up." I say

They all look at you, their faces filled with fear. They are waiting for you to tell them what to do. Some of them are still arguing, but most of them are just looking at you, hoping you'll make the decision for them.

"Pick one or I'm throwing you into the military." I say

The civilians all start to panic, some of them are crying and others are shouting. They are all trying to come up with a decision, but they are too scared to choose. They look at you, hoping that you'll give them some guidance.

"Ok. Well, Sarah, how many wanna-be-nurses do you got here?" I ask

Sarah looks at the civilians, counting them. She looks up at you and answers "I'd say about 10 of them."

"Ok. cool. Hope they got what it takes. Go start teaching, Sarah." I say

Sarah nods and takes the 10 civilians over to a separate room. They all follow her, looking nervous but also hopeful. The rest of the civilians look at you, waiting for you to tell them what to do next.

"Adam how many you got?" I ask

Adam looks at the civilians, counting them as well. He answers "I'd say about 20 of them. They all seem eager to learn how to garden."

"Go start teaching em." I say

Adam nods and takes the 20 civilians over to another room. They all follow him, excited to learn how to garden. That leaves only about 30 civilians left. They all look at you, waiting for your next command.

"John, how many you got?" I ask

John looks at the remaining civilians, counting them. He answers "I'd say about 30. They all seem eager to join the military."

"Good. Let's start that training.. Tomorrow. You guys go get rest." I say

The civilians all look relieved that they are getting some rest. They nod and walk away, some of them still looking nervous but also excited for what the next day will bring. You and John are left alone.

"John, get all the soldiers here now." I say

John nods and goes to gather the soldiers. He comes back a few minutes later with about 100 soldiers. They all stand in front of you, waiting for your command.

"Soldiers. You have heard. Your majors are dead." I state

The soldiers all look at you, their faces filled with shock and disbelief. They can't believe what they are hearing. Some of them start to whisper to each other, trying to process the information.

"But that's cause they didn't follow orders. And wanted control without plans." I say

The soldiers are silent for a moment, trying to understand what you are saying. Then one of them speaks up "So what does that mean for us? Are we going to get new majors?"

"I'm lord shadow. I run this shit. And this is major john, he is my right hand. And then we have a major over there. He'll be the one you talk to." I say

The soldiers all nod and look at john. They seem to accept the new hierarchy, but they are still unsure about how this will affect their roles. Some of them look at you, hoping you'll explain further.

"We are your leaders." I say

The soldiers all nod again, accepting that. They seem to understand now that they have new leaders. They all stand at attention, waiting for your next command.

"Now. I wanted to inform you. We have a very important, very well coordinated attack tomorrow." I say

The soldiers all look at you, their eyes filled with excitement. They are eager to hear more about the attack. They are ready to follow your orders and fight for their country.

"A simultaneous ambush on multiple enemy patrols which will leave our enemies shocked. And allow us passage with just enough time to rescue some more soldiers from another camp." I say

The soldiers all nod, understanding the plan. They are ready to fight for their country and rescue their fellow soldiers. They are all determined to make this attack a success.

"If we do it right. No one will die on these attacks, except those gross enemies." I say

The soldiers all cheer, their spirits lifted by your words. They are ready to do whatever it takes to make this attack a success. They are determined to protect their country and rescue their fellow soldiers.

"If there were to be something to go wrong only like 2 people would get shot. Probably live too and be fine." i say

The soldiers all seem relieved to hear that. They are still eager to fight, but they are glad that they are not going into this with a high risk of dying. They are ready to do whatever it takes to protect their country and their fellow soldiers.

"Now go back to duties." i say

The soldiers all nod and go back to their duties. They are all feeling more confident and motivated after hearing your words. They are ready to do whatever it takes to make this attack a success. Eventually Lieutenant Will comes back. Will walks in, looking exhausted. He is carrying a bunch of supplies and looks like he is been working hard. He walks over to you and salutes.

"Any enemy run-ins?" i ask

He shakes his head "No, we didn't see any enemy soldiers. We found some supplies and brought them back with us. But no enemy contact."

"Any civilians?" i ask

Hel nods "We did find some civilians. We were able to bring them back with us as well. They are all safe and sound."

"How many?" i ask

Hel thinks for a moment, counting them "I'd say about 50. They are all in good health and they are all happy to be here."

"Good. John, Make the civilians choose duties in a few minutes." i say

John nods and walks over to the civilians. He explains to them that they have to choose a duty, either gardening, medicine, or the military. They all look at each other, trying to decide what they want to do. Some of them seem nervous, but others are eager to join the military.

"Will, you should get some rest." i say

Will nods "I will. Thank you, my lord. It's been a long day."
