Chapter 16 - The little restaurant

As they stepped out of they room the cold wind rustled through the trees making them whistle . Serena's still could not get her mind off what Elsie said " how much do you know about the town", she asked rubbing her palm to create warmth, she wasn't expecting it to be this chilly outside. Elsie's face lit up as she clapped her hands together, her curls seemingly moving in rhythm with the wind. "Well since you asked, I have only been here for a year and a half but I do know a lot of history about the town. It was actually a project I took on last year after one of my classmates Anna went missing just around this time of the year" Elsie said calmly as she adjusted her scarf around her neck. " That's awful I'm so sorry, did the school do anything about it, there was nothing about a missing person report online, nothing at all, did they not report it" Serena said, her eyebrows knotted in confusion, she wondered about the student that went missing and how the school kept it hidden, why they kept it hidden, it was suspicious enough that there was no information about the town or the school online but how could they get away with hiding such a thing from the rest of the world. " Well that's what happens in Eldermere, nothing is known about the town. What got me digging further into the case was no one could remember anything about Anna it was like she never existed, even I couldn't remember her. Then I found this picture in my notebook of Anna Steven and I having a milkshake at the restaurant we're heading and everything came pouring back, it was all strange, scary even". She said as they approached the little red diner. " I haven't been able to find much, a lot about the town is kept strictly off limits even the town's library has only what the leaders want you to see,a perfect town with wealthy happy people but that's not all true there are strange occurrences that have happened here, most of them town legends but there is one that always comes up.

"The legend of the seven wolves" she said as they stepped into the restaurant, she glanced around, heading to the diner booth close to the window. Serena sat down quickly " wait seven wolves, normal wolves" she asked as Elsie sat opposite her. " Nah, people say this place was a magical place centuries ago which was ruled by these powerful wolf-like creatures, warewolves that is and there mistress a blind witch with long sliver hair. Serena's brow furrowed. " Warewolves? That can't be true can it" she asked blurred images of the creatures from her vision flashed through her mind. " I'm not sure but the town seems to believe it. They say that the town had it's best years during their time, they brought peace and prosperity to Eldermere. Fields flourished, they conquered there enemies that kind of shit" Elsie said taking off her scarf. She took a quick look around before leaning closer towards the table, instinctively Serena did so as well. " Then something terrible happened in this town, leading to a great curse on the town and it's members but far worse for the wolves. Some still believe that they roam around till this very day among us". " Do you know what the curse is all about" Serena asked, she hoped she didn't come out as being too naive. " Not a clue that's all I could find out for now, nothing else seems to come to light, maybe now you're here we can research on it together" Elsie beemed, her eyes sparkled with mischief and wonder. Serena nodded a smile on her face.

Just on the other side of the diner, Conner finished clearing up the table heading to the counter. " Yo Conner, table from five just got filled it's Elsie and she brought a friend" another staff said tapping him on the shoulder. Conner smiled looking over at table five, he saw Elsie, eyes wide open, with her arms making gestures, as she spoke to a girl who sat opposite her. " Elsie, always making new friends huh","yeah this one is new though I have never seen her before" the staff said clearing the counter. Conner took another look at the table " you mean new to Eldermere, how is that even possible, the scholarship program has been completed for months now". " I don't know but she's here and she seems nice, I mean she's able to tolerate Elsie's crazy stories, plus she is super pretty". Conner looked at his colleague " okay then, let me go and meet this pretty new girl then". He chuckled picking up a rag and heading to their table. " Elsie do you ever stop talking, what is this about this time, monsters in the forest of Eldermere" he smirked playfully at her. " Well it's none of your business Conner" Elsie said with a frown which disappeared shortly after. " Oh yeah this is Serena my next door neighbor, Serena this is Conner my waiter friend". Elsie said clapping her hands together with a wide smile. Conner turned finally able to see the mystery girl's face and my what a beauty to see in this dusty town. His eyes softened the moment they met hers, the silly smirk from earlier slowly disappearing as he took in the site in front of him. Her caramel skin, long fluffy black hair looking up mid-laugh, her eyes filled with an innocence undeserving of this town. "Hi I'm Conner" he said, his voice coming out coarse. " Serena it's nice to meet one of Elsie's friends" Serena said with a genuine smile, her smile seemed to give life to the little diner. He took their order, his eyes taking quick glances at her when given the opportunity. Even as he left there table he turned to take a final look at her, he wondered how one could feel this way just by a person's looks.
