Chapter 13 - Ghost in the Snow

The Wyrmbrand Hidden Power, an almighty scroll, grants the treasure's finder supposedly infinite power. There is no proof that this is true, as no one knows where this scroll is located. Many people tried finding this scroll but never ceased to discover it. Many people even think the scroll is a hoax.

It is said to have been forged by the primordial dragons and a powerful god who once ruled the lands. The scroll is imbued with forbidden magic that transcends even the ancient powers of the Essence, tapping into the very primal forces of the world itself.

However, the scroll also carried a terrible cost. Those who sought to wield the power described within its pages would be consumed by it, their souls bound to the dragons' essence. This would transform the individual into a creature of insatiable hunger for more power, no longer fully human, no longer fully dragon, and no longer fully demon.

Now, the scroll has resurfaced, and with it, its dark promise. Wayne, the unknowing heir to a long-forgotten legacy, has stumbled upon its path. With the sudden malfunction of The Path, Wayne's connection to this ancient power has become stronger. The scroll, now thought to be located deep within the Wyrmdevil Caverns, awaits the one who is brave—or foolish—enough to unlock its secrets.

Project: Era Base

Cell doors opened, making a loud creaking sound. Inside was a man, thirsty and hungry. He was pale and skinny. He had handcuffs on his hands, and his legs were tied to a chain connected to the wall, making him immobile. It was Arthur, still locked up from Aetherion. Word had already spread in Aetherion and Nyx about a Neophyte disappearing. The other Neophytes gathered together, discussing Arthur's disappearance.

"Arthur was last recorded entering the Solvex Wastes. After this point, all records of him were lost."

"What were you doing in Solvex, Arthur?" The Neophytes discussed, thinking of all the possibilities, and one Neophyte concluded.

"If they want to kidnap Arthur, then we kill them all!"

"War"

Wayne received a notification from AetherLink showing a waypoint located in the grey-shaded region.

"Uncharted territory?"

It was dangerous for Wayne to travel to different places in Eldora, as the soldiers here already knew he was wandering around in the kingdom. Wayne grabbed his bag and took out the new robe he bought at the tailor shop. The black and purple colored robe interested him, with a shimmer of his reflection glistening at him. He quickly put on the robe, making him feel heavier. The robe he wore made him look thicker and bundled. Everyone walked by with confusion on why this man was wearing this thick of clothing on a hot sunny day. Wayne ignored everyone, trying to hide his identity.

Wayne put on his hood, hiding his face with a deep hood.

Wayne started traveling east, heading right towards the waypoint. The air started to get chillier and heavier, making Wayne struggle to breathe. The ground started to get covered with snow. Wayne felt the snowflakes fall on him. As he walked forward, creating footsteps on the ground, he approached a surveillance tower. Wayne hid in some bushes and investigated from afar, counting all the people in the tall tower.

Wayne thought in his head, "About 10 people are guarding the area. Judging from their armor, they look like they are slightly above the recruits."

Wayne unsheathed his sword and swiftly maneuvered through the area, undetected. Suddenly, Wayne heard something break through the heavy wind. He suddenly saw the tip of an arrow piercing through the wind and flying straight at him.

"Shadow Step."

Wayne swiftly used the spell from before, dodging the arrow and getting closer to his enemies.

"I managed to avoid it right in time, but how did he manage to see me?"

Everyone on the tower seemed to be shocked at how Wayne just teleported.

Wayne relaxed his body and started to question one of the people on top.

"Can I just get through? I have somewhere to go."

"I'm sorry, sir, but you won't be able to pass through. We have direct orders from Mr. Ironvale not to let anyone enter the Emberpeak Mountains until he finishes his mission."

"Sighhh."

"I don't have time for this."

Wayne suddenly disappeared from the scene. All the people on top were confused about where Wayne went all of a sudden. Then, the people heard a body drop on the floor behind them. They all quickly turned behind, seeing a figure holding a sword dripping with blood. It was Wayne.

Wayne chuckled, tilting his head up.

"How did he manage to get up here so fast?" They were all so confused and questioning about Wayne.

"Who are you?"

"You can call me... uhhhh...."

"Ghost."

Everyone was shocked, and then suddenly, their bodies were stuck. It was like they were paralyzed. They all saw Wayne smiling at them.

"Chronolock."

Time stopped around the people for a few seconds, and it seemed that Wayne was still there smiling, but the effect was gone, and so were their lives.

Wayne stood at the end with his sword dripping with even more blood. All the people's bodies were lying on the floor, with their heads detached from their bodies. The scene was gruesome.

Wayne sheathed his sword on his back and went through the gate. There it was, the beautiful and vast mountains of Emberpeak, the home of the Ironvales. The hills were covered in snow, but surprisingly felt warm at the same time. Wayne saw many outposts on top of the mountains, built in wood and stone, and on one of the mountains was the official base of House Ironvale.

Wayne kept advancing through the region, making his way to the waypoint. He shivered, but in some areas, the air felt warm, controlling his body temperature. Wayne felt shaking under his feet, into the ground. Wayne checked to see what was under the ground, punching down on it. He noticed that the ground was hollow, meaning something was underground.

Wayne kept pushing through the region, fighting the cold and the thick snow, which slowed him down. He was getting closer to the waypoint until he saw a group of people wandering around. It was four people, bundled up in heavy fur coats. They were standing right on the waypoint, examining something nearby. They were holding spears, making Wayne think that they were his enemies.

Suddenly, one of the people in the group yelled at Wayne. In caution, Wayne grabbed his sword, ready to strike.

"Woah, we're not here to hurt you, buddy. Just wondering what you're doing here?"

"What? Oh, I'm here to finish something."

"By something, do you mean the infamous dungeon?"

Wayne was confused. What dungeon?

"Don't tell me you don't know this dungeon. The one with the forbidden mystery at the end of it."

Wayne thought to himself, "Could he be talking about the scroll?"

"Actually... I'm planning to head there right now."

Right when Wayne said that, everyone was in shock.

"You're... gonna solo this dungeon? You know this is one of the hardest and most dangerous dungeons in Valara... right?"

"Is that so? Well, I guess this should keep me entertained then."

Wayne pushed the guy away and headed for the entrance of the dungeon, right where the waypoint was. There were many warning signs, but Wayne cared less to even look at them. The group tried to warn Wayne not to go in, but he needed to complete the mission.

"If you want, you can join me. Just try to keep up."

The group risked it all and followed Wayne into the dungeon. Blood stains and skulls were lying around, hinting that this dungeon took many lives. Wayne kept moving forward, as the others were scared, steadily following Wayne.

So far, the dungeon was calm and quiet. Suddenly, flames surrounded them. From the ground, zombies covered in flame started appearing.

"What the hell is that?!"
