Chapter 14 - Fuma

Ran thought hard — very hard — about what children liked.

Sweets?

Toys?

Cute animals?

Peace? …No, definitely not peace.

Then her eyes slowly slid toward Reimu.

Reimu, who was sipping tea with the deadest, most judgmental shrine maiden stare imaginable.

And Ran got an idea.

A terrible idea.

A wonderfully terrible idea.

Foxfire swirled around her palms as she shaped her power, weaving illusion, memory, and just a little bit of emotional manipulation.

A soft poof sounded.

And in Ran's hands appeared…

A plush.

But not just any plush.

A perfectly round, perfectly soft, perfectly expressionless Reimu doll — the same lifeless face of "I'm done with everything" stitched in red thread.

A small tag even dangled off it.

Suwako would have applauded if she'd been there.

Ran knelt to Chris, presenting it like some kind of sacred treasure.

"This is Fuma," Ran said with the tone of someone trying to sell a miracle.

"Take this… and let go of my…"

Her voice wobbled.

"My daughter."

Chen, still trapped in Chris's arms, weakly raised a paw.

"Please… take it…"

Chris looked at the doll.

Then back at Ran.

Then at the doll again.

Reimu watched in horror.

"…Why does the plush look like me?" Reimu muttered.

Marisa: "Because that's exactly your face when you deal with Yukari."

Yukari: snrk

Chris gently took the plush.

He squeezed it.

The plush made a soft bonk sound.

Chris blinked.

"…Fuma," he said with a nod of approval.

Then — FINALLY — he let go of Chen.

Chen sprinted behind Ran like a soldier returning to base after a traumatic mission.

Ran exhaled so hard her tails deflated.

"Thank… every… kami…"

Reimu stared at the plush clone of herself, dead-eyed and limp in Chris's hands.

"…I hate this."

Chris nodded happily, clutching "Fuma" in one hand and digging into his little side-bag with the other.

Out came Golden Freddy — the plush one, round, soft, and smiling with a face that absolutely should not be smiling as sweetly as it did.

Reimu froze.

Chen froze.

Marisa whispered, "Oh no."

Reimu whispered, "Oh no."

Yukari whispered, "Oh yes."

Chris held up both plushes like he had just gathered the Infinity Stones.

"Play," he declared.

Then, before any adult in the room could react, he marched straight toward his room.

Ran panicked.

"Wait— WAIT— small spirits plus cursed plushes equals dimensional incidents, we should—"

Too late.

The door shut.

CLICK.

Silence.

For five… ten… fifteen seconds.

Everyone stared at the door like it was a bomb.

Then—

B O N K

THUD-THUD

giggle-giggle-giggle

BZZZZZZZT

A flash of golden light leaked under the door.

Patchouli wasn't even there, yet everyone could feel her soul groaning in disapproval somewhere across Gensokyo.

Chen hid behind Ran.

Cassidy covered her face.

Reimu pinched the bridge of her nose.

Marisa… took a step back, just in case.

Yukari smiled like a proud aunt who encouraged chaos.

"Oh, this is going to be fun."

Inside that room?

Only god knows.

But one thing was certain:

A half-memetic spirit child and two eldritch-grade plush toys…

…was a combination no one in Gensokyo was ready for.

Inside the room, the chaos that everyone expected… never came.

Instead—

It was dangerously cute.

Weaponized adorableness.

Enough sweetness to end wars, silence gods, and give even Yukari a nosebleed.

Inside Chris's Room

Golden Freddy plush sat upright on the floor, wobbling slightly like a sleepy teddy.

The Reimu plush—"Fuma"—blinked her embroidered eyes as if waking up.

Chris plopped down between them with a proud smile.

"Friends," he declared.

Golden Freddy slowly leaned forward…

…and gently booped Fuma's forehead with its soft paw.

BOOP.

Fuma tipped backwards, limbs stiff, like she just fainted dramatically.

Chris gasped.

"Awwww…"

He picked her up, set her upright again.

Fuma wobbled.

Then she slowly lifted her little plush arms…

…and hugged Golden Freddy.

Not aggressively.

Not cursed.

Just a soft, squishy plush hug.

Golden Freddy hugged back.

Ran peeked through the door crack, expecting carnage—

She froze.

Chen peeked in too—

Her tail curled in pure delight.

Even Yukari paused in mid-mischief outside.

Inside, Chris giggled so hard his little angel wings fluttered.

Golden Freddy and Fuma sat together, leaning against each other like best friends at nap time.

Chris lay on his stomach beside them, kicking his feet like a happy child as he moved them gently into little poses.

No horror.

No magic explosions.

No eldritch meme-energy outbursts.

Just—

Plush Reimu and Golden Freddy having the most wholesome, soft, precious playtime in existence.

Chris whispered to them like they were alive.

"Fuma… Freddy… together."

Fuma's tiny stitched smile seemed a little bigger.

Golden Freddy's head leaned on hers.

Chris clapped quietly.

The room glowed—not with magic or danger, but with the warm, soft aura of a child who finally felt safe.

---

Outside the door, the adults stared at the faint glow.

Marisa: "...It's quiet."

Reimu: "...Too quiet."

Ran: "Did they… fall asleep?"

Chen: "No… that's the cute aura. Very rare. Very powerful…"

Yukari sniffed dramatically.

"It's… so adorable I could die…"

Reimu finally said what everyone was thinking:

"...Okay. That is WAY scarier than an actual incident."

But inside?

Chris just giggled again.

Fuma leaned on Golden Freddy.

Golden Freddy leaned on Fuma.

And the world's most adorable peace treaty was formed.

The next few months then patched.

During that time, Reimu didn't know how to feel, sleeping while hugging Chris as he held a Plush version of her.

It felt weird, during that time, Chris' Japanese got better, but will he still sound like a Cowboy Robot?

One thing Reimu had learn, when Chris started to speak more and said full words, is that he sounded like a gentleman and polite like he was taught to speak that way.

Which confused her a bit more. But as time passes they meet the record keeper of all events

A young human girl with long, black hair, who seemed physically frail, caught Chris and patted her back. She wears traditional Japanese clothing, befitting her status as the head of the noble Hieda family.

[Insert image of Hieda no Akyuu]

Reimu looked at her as she spoke. "And, that's everything".

Akyuu finished the last stroke of her brush, the ink drying into the heading on the scroll:

"Touhou 6: EoSB."

Reimu always thought the naming system was weird—

Touhou? Really?

But according to Akyuu, that was the name of the land when the Hakurei Barrier was first created. So she let it slide.

Akyuu exhaled softly, stretching her hands as if they had been writing for days.

"Thank you, Reimu. I really can't trust the newspaper sometimes. Aya tends to… embellish."

Reimu pinched the bridge of her nose.

"That crow turns a walk to the Scarlet Devil Mansion into a war memoir. Of course she embellishes."

Akyuu smiled politely.

"I prefer first-hand testimonies."

Chris, who was sitting cross-legged beside Reimu, mimicked Akyuu's posture like a tiny, polite mirror. His Japanese was finally fluent, but the way he spoke still carried that strange, old-fashioned politeness. Like he had been raised in another century.

Or another world.

Akyuu glanced at him, amused.

"Chris, is that plush doll still your favorite?"

Chris hugged the Fuma Reimu plush tighter.

"Yes. Reimu gave it to me."

Reimu turned away immediately, pretending she wasn't blushing.

Akyuu watched the two with gentle curiosity before she spoke again.

"Reimu… you seem different these days. More… responsible."

Reimu shot her a deadpan look.

"Are you calling me irresponsible?"

Akyuu tapped her brush on her chin.

"Only slightly."

Chris muffled a laugh.

Reimu gave him the look.

On the Way Back to the Shrine

Reimu carried Chris on her back—something she absolutely refused to admit she enjoyed doing. He rested his chin on her shoulder, the plush Reimu tucked between them.

"…Reimu?" he said quietly.

"Hm?"

"I sound strange?"

Reimu blinked.

"Eh? What do you mean?"

Chris tapped his throat.

"Like… cowboy robot."

Reimu almost stumbled.

"What?! No—you don't sound like that anymore! You sound like some… polite noble's son. Like someone who bows before drinking tea."

Chris blinked, clearly unsure whether that was an insult or a compliment.

"But it's your voice," Reimu added, softer. "So keep it."

Chris nodded, satisfied.

Reimu tightened her grip slightly.

Months had passed… and she still didn't know what to make of waking up holding this kid every morning.

Kid who wasn't a kid.

Kid with a golden soul and a dangerous Grimoire.

Kid who sounded like an old gentleman in a tiny body.

But he looked at her like she was… safety.

And that was new.

Very new.

At the shrine, as she lifted him off her back, he hugged her from behind, pressing his face into her sleeve.

"…thank you," he murmured.

Reimu froze.

Then she gently patted his head.

"…Yeah. Anytime."

Her face was red.

But thankfully, Chris couldn't see it.
