Synopsis
What if the only way to move forward… was to fake your past? That’s the dilemma facing Calla Rivera, a broke barista with a secret—she used to be someone else. Years ago, Calla walked away from a powerful crime family and buried her identity under a new name, a new city, and a painfully honest life. But when a viral video of her saving a customer goes public, her old world comes knocking… in the form of Leo Castellano, her former fiancé and heir to the criminal empire she abandoned. Leo has a proposition: pretend they’re still together to secure a billion-dollar merger. The perks? Luxury penthouses, designer wardrobes, and a paycheck that could solve all of Calla’s problems. The downside? Leo is as infuriating as he is magnetic—and playing house with him stirs up old feelings she can’t afford to feel. As Calla is pulled deeper into the illusion, the lines blur. Is she acting—or falling again? And when a rival family discovers her reappearance, the real danger begins. Because in Leo’s world, love isn't the most dangerous thing. Trust is.

Chapter 1 - How to Fake an Engagement (And Maybe Feel Something Real?)

Aiden

Nelly's eyes locked onto mine, burning with quiet defiance. Her fury wasn't loud, but it was absolute, a force all its own. If looks could kill, I'd already be buried six feet under.

"You better thank your stars I'm broke and can't afford to lose this job," she said, voice steady, measured—controlled, even in her anger.

Then—just for a second—her composure wavered. A single tear slipped free. She wiped it away quickly, like it was an inconvenience, like she refused to let me see her break.

Something twisted deep in my chest.

I exhaled slowly, keeping my own expression unreadable. "It wasn't meant to upset you," I said smoothly, voice lower now. "If this is too much, I'll handle it another way."

I turned away, adjusting the cuff of my sleeve as I reached for my phone. Jack. I need a stand-in. Someone who looks like Nelly.

I pressed the call button.

"You're on your way?" I asked the second he picked up.

"With the ring, yeah. Few minutes out."
