Chapter 3 - Right, I am

Nameless. I don't know what my name is. I need to make something up right now. What do I want to be called? Should it be after an item? Door? Rock? Key? Nothing is coming to mind. A noble name maybe? King? Prince? Knight? No, that sounds stupid. He will think I'm stupid, if he doesn't already. Why aren't any names coming to mind? I can't think of anything.

"You don't have a name?"

"Give me a second!"

Name myself after my family. People do that often! Isaac and Oscar, they are my family! They are all I got. But which one? What if they are found? Then the name I pick will only cause confusion. What if I combine their names, then it wouldn't be confusing. And I will always remember them this way! Now how to name myself? Well since Isaac is the older twin it has to start with his. Isaacoscar? No. Isoscar? Feels off. Something more simple. Is? Is? Is? Iscaar? Iscaar. Iscaar? Iscaar! Sounds good. Yes, that's it. Iscaar! Right, I am Iscaar! My name is Iscaar! That's it!

"Iscaar."

"Why pleasure to meet you Iscaar. Now I need to go and talk about what to do with you, with the higher ups. Stay here and wait then."

"Uh… sure."

Ren leaves and gives the nod to the knight who stood in the doorframe, the one he was talking to earlier.

His armour was a bit weird. Mostly it was just light metal plating all around the most vital areas. On top of that he wore a helmet that had two small round holes for a visor. I could feel his eyes judging me. There were 3 slits at the center of the mask, presumably for breathing. And his breathing was heavy, and loud. Lastly he had a teal coloured scarf on his neck, and a red arm band with a lion drawn on it.

He didn't talk to me at all. After a while he turns around and locks the door, then leaves. Weirdo. Well what do I do now?

***

While waiting for at least something to happen, I had the chance to rest properly, well to the extent that I could in this damp, cold cell on this prickly, thin thatch bed. I'm sure a few hours have passed by now. I heard the metal armour rattles echo, and they got closer. Did the weird guy return?

Click.

The door opened. A knight walks in, he looked similar to the other one but he was covered in full armour. He also had a red armband but a dark green scarf instead of a teal one. Although it might've appeared dark from the lack of light. He was holding an iron tray.

"Food." He said, extending to me a rusty iron tray with a piece of bread and a cup of water.

"Thank you?" He places it down, then slides towards me. Then he just stands there. Staring at me through the small visors. "What?"

"Eat."

"Are you just going to stand there?"

"*Sigh* Eat." No energy in his voice

"Alright." I snatch the tray, and begin eating. The bread was very hard, almost like they gave me a brick. I still ate it. What can I say, I was very hungry and there were no fish nearby. That tasty, delicious fish. Just thinking back to it made me drool. If I ever get the chance, I'll go back there and eat them all up again.

"Done?"

"Huh? You're still here? Whatever," I throw the tray to his knees "I'm done." He bends over and picks it up. Then he leaves.

Click.

And of course he locked the door.

Honestly I would've made a run for it, but he stood just outside my reach. If it wasn't for these stupid chains, I would be roaming around town carefree by now.

Now what? It's so boring here! There is nothing to do! I need a distraction. Maybe a workout? Yeah, sure. I'll start with push-ups I guess.

I get into a push-up position, and then go for it. One… two… thre- ugh! What the hell! Why am I so weak? Maybe I'm just too hungry? Didn't I workout before? I remember running, doing push-ups, sit-ups, and squats. Isaac used to watch me and Oscar workout. From what I remember. Have I gone rusty? Do I have to start over again? That sucks. Well no time like the present.

I worked out until I got really tired, but this was a good way to understand my current capabilities. Safe to say I wasn't even gonna leave a bruise on that knight. Well now that I'm tired, I can go back to sleep. Weird though, I'm sure I've been here for a long time now, but I haven't seen the light outside become any darker. The sky was still bright, well a little dimmer but the difference was insignificant. Whatever. I'm sleeping now.

I had a dream.

This one had sheep.

Aw that's cute.

They were just roaming around this beautiful field.

And the sky was purple with an orange swirl.

It's so much better than the last one.

The sheep were running around aimlessly.

They were all over the place and most of them were eating grass.

A shadowy figure appeared in the middle of the field.

It was familiar to me.

It was that same figure that appeared in my last dream.

It emerged and eyes started opening on it.

All the sheep suddenly stopped and began going towards it.

Then they started circling the dark figure.

In a split moment all the eyes began staring directly at me.

I fall back, but instead of hitting the ground I fall into darkness.

And the dream was over.

Ah! These dreams suck! I can't even rest while sleeping. Hold on, it's dark. Is it nighttime? I can see very faint lights from the crack on the wall. I didn't hear any chatter. Is everyone sleeping? Are there any guards around?

"Hello?!" I shout at the door, but nobody responds. Huh? Are the guards also asleep? The one who came here earlier did look tired. This could be my chance. It was quite easy to see in the darkness. I need to see what the chains are attached to. All four of the chains were locked by a ring-headed iron pin wedged in between the stones on the wall a little below the gap. Maybe I can pull it out. Slowly I shake it around, hoping it would chisel the surrounding stones enough and I would have the chance to break free.

After a while it became a lot more loose. I can feel it coming off. Come on. Come off! It needs a bit more force! I grab my chains, and begin tugging. Come off already!

Snap.

Ah! I hit the ground and make a noise. I freeze. Did anyone hear that?If someone did, I'm as good as dead! Please-please-please.

Nothing? Nothing. I sigh in relief. Now I need to get out of here, I have no idea how long it will take for the day to return. First up I used the same iron pin, that was as long as a small dagger, to break the chains on my wrists and ankles. It made a bit of noise, but no one came around. I absolutely cannot mess this up. When will I ever get a chance like this again?

Now that my limbs are free, I go to open the door only to remember that it's locked. Agh! What now? Think-think-think! How does this lock work? There is no key hole on this side. Maybe I can carve through with the iron pin? I've got to try.

I press the iron and then scrape. I repeat it until I carve out the door from the lock, then it opens.

I get into a hallway with a lot more locked cells. Which way do I go? When Ren was leaving he went to the left. That's where I'll go then! But quietly. The last thing I need is to wake someone up. Just up ahead, I saw lights. Must be the exit! I approached closer, but then I saw the knight guard. Scared, I took a step back. Is this it for me? I stand still, for a minute. He doesn't seem to notice me. He… really is asleep.

I get closer and even wave my hand in front of him. Nothing at all. Is he even alive? I hold my finger right before the three slits in his helmet and feel a slight breeze. Is he sleeping while standing? That's impressive.

I should kill him.

No! If I kill him, who knows what the others will do to me. If I get caught escaping the cell, then they'll most likely just throw me back in. Hopefully. But if I kill one of them, who knows what might happen? I tighten the grip on the iron pin, and proceed through the door. No, wait. I don't because it's also locked. And the keyhole wasn't on this side either.

Great!

What now?

If I carve with the iron pin like my door, I'll probably wake the guard up and I can't return because they'll see the cutout door. Shit, I'm in real trouble now.

No! Don't give up yet. Think. Think-think-think! Is there someone behind the door?

I put my ear up against the door. I hear chatter. Two guys talking, I can't distinguish what though.

Can I get them to open the door? If they do then what? I kill them? I could get one but then what? Then I'm really screwed, that's what! But if I don't then I'll just get sent back! And maybe punished. And then all of this was for nothing!

Or.

I- I could kill this guy right here and take his armour…

No. Maybe I can just knock him out? The chains back there can be used to immobilize him. But am I strong enough to even knock him out? Can I take off his helmet? Hold on-Hold on-Hold ooooon. A plan! I got a plan!

First I took off the guard's helmet without waking him up. Then I ran back to my cell and hit his helmet against the wall with enough force to create a noise just enough to get his attention. Lastly, I hide and wait.

"Huh?!" The guard woke up. He is alarmed and looks confused on where his helmet went. Come on! Take the bait! Go down the hallway!

And he does. Carefully he pulls out his sword and lifts the lantern that was hung behind him. He slowly walks ahead. His facial expression is on edge. His eyes widened when he saw the door to my cell opened. He runs in! Shines the lantern around and finds his helmet laying in the middle of the room.

"Demons?!" No, credit's all mine.

I come out from behind the door and barely strike the pin with enough strength against the back of his head to knock him down. It even gave his rather disgusting thud sound. I hope I didn't kill the guy. Anyways time to get his armou-

"Ugh!" He groans.

Shit. He is still awake. I have to do something. Another hit? But I might kill him! But he might kill me! I- I- I do it! I took another hit to the back of his skull, this time I heard a crack. Shit! He is definitely dead this time. I need to go, now! I rush to get his armour off him, and then put it on myself. I can't waste a second on anything. I put the helmet on, and take the lantern. Thank you iron pin that held me bound not long ago. I won't forget you.

Why does nothing ever go my way? Whatever. I sheathe the sword, and hang the lantern back to where it was.

I knock on the door.
