Iyla pov
I woke up to Mommy making scary noises. Not like monster noises, but like…sad noises. She was moving a lot, too, like she was trying to run away from something. Her eyes were closed, but she was crying, and her face looked all twisted and sad.
"Mommy?" I whispered, but she didn't hear me.
Then she screamed, "NOO WHY? MY BABY! MY LITTLE STAR!"
It made me jump. Mommy never screamed like that. It was scary. My eyes started to get wet. I didn't know what to do. I tried to hug her, but she was moving too much. I tried to shake her awake, but she just kept crying and saying those scary words.
"Mommy, wake up!" I cried, my voice all shaky. "Do you have an owie? You're scaring me!"
Just then, her phone started to ring. It was loud and made me jump again. I didn't know what to do, but I saw the green button, so I pressed it.
A lady was talking. Her voice was old and sounded worried. "Nyara? Are you okay? We are worried about you. Come home, sweetheart."
Mommy screamed again, and her eyes opened really fast. She snatched the phone from my hand and pressed the red button. She looked really scared. It made me flinch, and more tears came out.
"Iyla," she said, her voice all shaky. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. Come here."
I jumped into her arms, and she hugged me super tight. I looked at her hands, and they were shaking.
"Did you say anything to the person on the phone?" she asked, her voice quiet.
"No," I whispered.
"Please," she said, looking down at me. "Please don't ever answer a phone call unless I tell you to, okay?"
I nodded. I thought maybe the person on the phone was a bad person. That's why Mommy looked so scared.
"Is your scary dream gone bye?" I asked, snuggling closer.
"Yes, baby," she said, her voice soft. "It's gone now."
We just layed on the bed, cuddling. Mommy played with my hair, and I tried to stop crying. But I was still scared. I didn't like seeing Mommy like that. I just wanted her to be happy again.
