Chapter 16 - Stop Searching

Back at home with Anna curled on her laps in deep sleep, Carla felt her heart thrum in her chest as she remembered what had happened after that.

Damien had insisted on bathing her and she had no other option than to let him bath her, allowing him take his sweet time when he came to her breasts and beneath her legs.

When he asked for the paternity of her daughter again, she feigned anger and he kept mute. She doubted he was convinced and doubted the fact that he would back off now.

He had proceeded to force her to eat the food he ordered, claiming that he disliked skinny women and that she was too skinny for his liking like he did not just fuck her.

He forced her to sleep and woke her up with a new dress to put on before proceeding to carry her in a bridal style from his office to the elevator and straight to his car. He looked like he was paid a fortune just to do that.

He insisted on following her to get Anna from school but she told him her best friend had handled that. She wondered what he would do if he found out that it was Rhy who voluntarily took up the job of taking Anna from school after she had approved of him to Anna's teacher.

She felt like a breathing mess and didn't want to think about the sex she had experienced earlier today after years of going on without it.

"Did you enjoy it that much?"

Carla almost flew to the ceiling at the abruptness of the venomous voice in her sitting room.

When she saw Rhy seated with his legs crossed, his face unsmiling and his tongue poking his cheek, she breathed in relief.

"You need to stop appearing before me without prior notice, I have the right to my privacy." She made a small frown.

"I guess he doesn't need to obtain your permission before doing that to you." Rhy gently wiped off the imaginary dust off the shoulder of his leather jacket and Carla felt her cheeks burn.

"You don't have to trail me Rhy!" She raised her voice but carefully enough not to wake Anna up.

"Really?" He smirked before tilting his head slowly to the side and flicking his thumb against his middle finger to give a clicking sound and having Anna disappear from Carla's lap.

"Don't worry, she is in the bedroom." He assured her with a proud look on his face.

"Sleeping peacefully." He added, as if that would make her feel less discomfort.

He flicked his fingers again and he was seated by her side, his arm over her shoulder leaning dangerously close to her, invading her space and her head.

"You need to give me space, Rhy."

"But he didn't give you any."

"He is different!" She turned to glare at him and he brought his face close and stopped an inch from her lips that if she moved, her lips would brush his.

"Don't move away." His eyes roamed her face and he suddenly had a faraway look with the mixture of longing in his gaze.

"Is he different because he is the father of your child?" He finally asked.

"Do you like him now after another one time thingy? Hmm?" He pressed forward when she didn't give him an answer.

"You don't have to put up with all this, I can take you away…"

"I don't even know you!" She shifted away from him and he sucked his teeth.

"You were investigating the Darkwood Forest case again." He said, looking at his hands like they would somehow develop wings and fly.

He scrutinized his hands as if trying to figure out where the wings would come from and Carla tried her best to swallow and abort the fear that gripped her heart.

"How–how did you know?" She looked ahead, avoiding his gaze when she felt his face turn slowly to look at her.

"Really?" He sounded sarcastic.

Carla gave a yelp when she suddenly found herself beneath Rhy on the couch, he leaned in on her and she felt her eyes widen at their extremely closeness, he had his breath fanning her face.

"Stop it Carla. Stop searching, stop trying to find answers, you will regret it, I swear you will." His held her hands down on the couch and had his eyes blazing with the mixture of frustration and pain.

"You can't afford to go through that again." He said slowly and Carla frowned.

"Afford to go through what?" She asked.

"What is going on?" Carla's brain was processing his words and trying to think of different possibilities at the same time.

"You might end up hurting Anna." He stared towards the closed door before looking back at her.

"Then tell me what is going on!" She tried to sit up and overpower him but he was more powerful and held her still.

"I can't." He shook his head furiously, his wild black hair shaking with him.

"Then I'll keep looking." She hissed at him and he gave a smile she could closely associate to a sad smile.

"The more you desire to know, the more the answers will come to you but I bet you, you won't like the outcome." He nodded and pushed his lips forward.

Carla looked at his face. She would have mistaken him for any other normal looking human she would have seen on the street if she hadn't seen his weird eyes and magical powers.

"I am Rhy, I have told you this before." He told her as if answering his question.

"Can you read my mind?" She glared at him and he got down from her.

"Sometimes your thoughts are too loud to ignore."

While still blinking at him in disbelief, Rhy bent and kissed her forehead. "I'd always be here no matter your decisions but you would have to make it easier for me by taking less risk."

Before she could grab him to ask him more questions, he was gone just like that and she sagged against the couch, hitting the back of her head repeatedly against the backrest.

"Go on in, I'll come pick you up tomorrow." Remembering Damien's words, she held one of the throw pillows against her face and yelled into it.

All she needed was some privacy and sanity! It wasn't so hard to ask for.
