I knew something was off before we even crossed into the pack's borders.
It wasn't the usual resistance I felt toward stepping foot on a territory soaked in hypocrisy. It wasn't even the familiar rage I'd grown used to, seeing yet another pack with their self-righteous smiles and half-hidden sneers, pretending they didn't treat mixed-blood wolves like trash. No, this was different. Unease curled low in my stomach like anticipation before a storm—but I couldn't name the cause, and that alone was enough to irritate me.
The journey here had been quiet. Lucian led the group, as usual, and Sera stayed close to him, occasionally throwing glances my way that said she was just as worn down by this as I looked. Corin looked like he hadn't slept in two days, though he still somehow carried herself like he could beat someone bloody without blinking.
