Lucas knew she was hesitating. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and stated calmly, "Miss Wills, I will be honest with you. I understand your reluctance to get involved in our messy affairs but ninety million dollars is not a small sum."
"Even someone like me who once worked as the head of my department cannot earn a crazy sum of money like that in a few months, much less a small waitress. Do you think that if you lower your standard and opt for some small part-time job, you will be able to save the desired sum?"
"If it was that easy, then why would people rob or kill?"
Mia hated that he was right. She truly didn't have the means to earn that sum of money in a period of three months. Unless she did something illegal or —sold herself. Neither option was tempting to her.
As if realising what was going on in her head, Lucas's smile softened, and he tapped his knuckles on the table before saying, "Why don't you take a seat? We can discuss this small predicament of yours?"
