Rhane had been watching a village charmer deceive buyers from a corner where he stood. It wasn't something different. Growing up half-wild on the streets meant survival depended on what you could take and how quickly you could vanish afterward.
The village charmer only needed as many people he could deceive as possible then he'd move to the next place.
Rhane had entered the market to also find men who are willing to spend their entire fortune in his place. It was hot and he was tired.
And on this particular day, he needed food, trouble, and a miracle. In that exact order. He got the first two easily. The miracle took its sweet time.
The market was a labyrinth of noise and smells, vendors shouting prices that changed by the second, and buyers confused on exactly what to buy.
