Chapter 20 - The Dumbass is Chosen

Succubi Chapter 20. The Dumbass is Chosen

08:05 AM.

I was already in class.

It was a main class, which meant all the houses attended together in the auditorium—a massive, high-ceilinged hall filled with rows of seats that could fit way too many students. The place was built for lectures, battles, and probably some dramatic life-changing announcements at some point.

Since this was a main subject class, we'd be stuck here before heading to our separate house training sessions later.

And of course, I was seated between two very different types of company.

To my right? Evelyn, cool and composed as ever. Even sitting still, she had that aura—quiet, calculating, like she was studying everything and everyone, deciding if they were worth her time.

To my left? Leon.

…who looked like he was seconds away from dying.

I barely paid attention to the professor standing at the front, droning on about today's lesson, because Leon kept whispering, "I'm hungry… I'm so hungry…" under his breath.

I frowned, glancing at him. 'Didn't he buy breakfast yesterday?'

"Dude," I muttered, "didn't you stock up on food?"

Leon groaned, slouching lower in his seat. "Yeah, but…" He rubbed his stomach, looking miserable. "No one in the male dorms cooked this morning."

…Oh.

"So you didn't eat anything?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Leon let out a suffering sigh. "Yeah. I finished everything last night."

I blinked. "Wait, wait—you mean you ate all your food?"

A slow nod.

Leon wasn't some weak human—he was a werewolf and strong compared to average humans but his metabolism was insane, and he needed a ton of food just to function properly. If he had nothing this morning, it was no wonder he looked like he was about to keel over and die.

I sighed, rubbing the bridge of my nose. "Dumbass. That's your fault for not pacing yourself."

"I know," he hissed, then his eyes darted over to me. "Wait—you got food, right?"

I did get food. A lot of food.

Lilith cooked for me this morning. Extra dishes. Specifically for me.

And yeah… I ate like a glutton.

Not only that, but she made lunch for all of us—including Evelyn and herself.

Of course, making a full-course meal wasn't a big deal for her. She was a succubus with ridiculous abilities, and cooking? Piece of cake. She could snap her fingers and whip up a feast.

So while I was sitting here, feeling very satisfied with my morning, Leon was on the verge of starvation.

I kind of felt bad. Kinda.

"…Don't look at me like that," I muttered.

Leon narrowed his eyes. "You have food."

"I had food."

"You still have food."

I clenched my jaw, glancing away. "…Maybe."

Leon's eyes lit up, and suddenly, he was grabbing my sleeve. "Dude. Bro. Best friend. I will owe you my life—"

"Shut up. You can't eat here," I hissed, yanking my arm back before the professor noticed us.

Leon slumped forward, groaning again. "I'm gonna die."

"You're not gonna die."

"Maybe I wanna die."

Evelyn, who had been silently observing our conversation, finally sighed. "The first break is coming soon. Just hold on."

"I can't…" Leon groaned dramatically, dropping his head onto the desk. "Evelyn. Have mercy. Lend me some food."

Evelyn barely spared him a glance. "No."

Leon whimpered. "Meanie."

"I don't care."

Leon turned to me with the most pitiful expression. "Evan. Best friend. Lifelong companion. Savior."

I raised an eyebrow. "What."

"You have food."

I sighed, rubbing my temple. "I will share my lunch. But I'm not a food bank."

Leon looked like he might actually cry. "I take back everything bad I've ever said about you."

I rolled my eyes, but before I could respond— Snap!

The professor's sharp fingers cut through the air. And his glare? Laser-focused. On Leon.

"You!" the professor snapped, pointing directly at Leon.

Leon froze, his body going stiff. "Uh… me?"

The professor's eyes narrowed. "Explain what I just said."

The entire room went silent. Leon blinked rapidly, as if stalling would somehow make an answer magically appear in his brain.

"…Could you maybe repeat the topic?" he tried.

The professor's frown deepened.

Ares leaned back in his seat, smirking. "This is because you're dumb." He shouted from different row.

Leon let out an offended gasp. "Excuse me?"

Ares gestured lazily. "You and Evan are the dumbass duo. This is what happens."

"I am not dumb," I muttered.

Leon looked betrayed. "Wait—Evan, you're supposed to back me up."

"I would," I sighed, "if you actually knew the answer."

Leon groaned. "I hate this class."

The professor let out a long, suffering sigh. "We were discussing human weaknesses and their fatal points in battle."

Leon's face paled. Yeah. He was done for.

I let out a breath. 'Guess I should help him out.' I raised my hand. "I can answer that."

The professor turned to me, expression unreadable. "You?"

I nodded. "Yeah."

A brief pause. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he motioned for me to proceed.

"Alright," I said, standing up. "The most fatal points in human combat are the head, neck, heart, and major arteries. Unlike other creatures, humans can't regenerate lost limbs or vital organs, so if you cripple, bleed out, or shut down their nervous system—they're done. That's why human warriors focus on mobility, armor, and ranged attacks, keeping distance instead of brute force."

I paused, glancing at Leon. He was still staring at me like I had just grown a second head. I ignored him and went on.

"Historically, humans have compensated by forming elite combat units, using strategy over raw power. The best fighters train relentlessly to increase endurance, reaction speed, and adaptability, but at the end of the day, they're still vulnerable without external support."I talked like I had devoured every book on the subject. All while standing there in my slightly disheveled uniform, messy hair, and face that screamed 'definitely not a nerd'.

I crossed my arms. "That's why humans in battle academies like this focus on techniques and battle instincts rather than pure strength." I finished and sat back down.

The room was silent for a second.

Then the professor nodded. "Good answer."

I exhaled.

The second I sat, Leon grabbed my arm.

"Who are you?" he whispered.

I frowned. "What?"

Leon stared. "Since when do you know things?"

I blinked. "Since always?" I scowled. "I read, okay? It's not illegal."

Leon was still in shock. "But, like… You look like…" He gestured at me vaguely.

"What?" I asked flatly.

Leon hesitated. "…Not a nerd?"

I groaned.

Evelyn finally spoke, her voice even. "Unexpected."

I frowned. "What?"

She just shook her head slightly. "Nothing."
