V3/Chapter 21: Don't be afraid, kid. I'm here to save you with the divine sound.
Under the deliberate relaxation of public opinion control, the truth about the Honkai began to spread on the internet in various ways.
Although there was already a tendency for the truth to emerge, the speed at which news of the Honkai spread still exceeded the Fire Moth's expectations.
As the truth about the Honkai spread, the Fire Moth finally entered the public eye.
About a week later, governments worldwide united and officially issued a statement about the Honkai through the United Nations. They brought the Fire Moth - an organization specifically responsible for dealing with Honkai-related disasters - to the forefront and released the promotional video previously produced by Elysia and others.
Of course, as Earth's highest-level governing body, the United Nations prepared more than just this short film. Many details about the war against Honkai were disclosed, with experts and scholars from various countries issuing statements and discussing the Honkai phenomenon, attempting to alleviate public fear through various means.
There had been controversy within the Fire Moth about revealing the truth of Honkai. Many worried it would cause widespread despair, accelerating social collapse.
Human beings excel at self-deception. When uncomfortable truths remain unspoken, people will find excuses to maintain their normal lives. But once this illusion is shattered, the self-delusion can no longer continue.
However, more believed humans aren't creatures who accept doom passively. When faced with an unavoidable disaster, survival instincts drive them to struggle desperately, creating hope for themselves and their species.
The results proved this conclusion correct. After the UN's official disclosure, while small-scale riots and chaos occurred globally, the overall response remained positive. The anticipated large-scale unrest never materialized, and even mental breakdowns leading to suicide remained remarkably low.
"According to global monitoring, over 50,000 people attempted suicide in the past 24 hours. With timely intervention, 48,569 were saved," Prometheus reported at the Starlight Experimental Base.
Ai Yue sat silently at his desk, face shadowed and unreadable.
"Compared to Earth's population exceeding four billion, these cases are statistically negligible," Prometheus' hologram appeared, patting Ai Yue's head. "You've done exceptionally well, Dr. Ai Yue. You should be proud."
"No life is 'negligible', Rose," Ai Yue sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Though some outcomes are unavoidable. When someone truly loses hope, even extended hands can't save them."
"Don't dwell on the unsaveable, lest you miss those who can be saved," Prometheus quoted. "Your own words to me."
"Don't worry, I'm not that easily depressed," Ai Yue waved as lights brightened the room. "But accountability matters... Are Eden and the others here?"
"Approaching the portal now," Prometheus displayed surveillance footage. "Ms. Eden, Dr. Mobius, Ms. Aponia, and Ms. Hua have arrived."
In the image, four figures emerged through the portal.
"Tell them I'm coming," Ai Yue stood. "Also, document all casualties from this incident - riots included."
"Understood."
Entering the reception hall, Ai Yue found Mobius already directing the drones to serve drinks. Had he been slower, someone would have uncorked the champagne.
"Eden, it's barely noon," Ai Yue sighed at Eden's flushed cheeks. "Planning to get drunk already?"
"I was drinking before arriving," Eden slurred slightly. "Shouldn't we celebrate such achievements properly, my friend?"
Aponia nodded nearby. Though her expression remained neutral, Ai Yue recognized the signs - she'd clearly participated in the pre-meeting toast.
This was understandable. They'd just altered humanity's collective consciousness worldwide.
"Any statistical results yet?" Mobius asked, her controlled tone belying urgency. "Global unrest indices?"
Though appearing indifferent, her desire for Prometheus' comprehensive data was obvious. While nations still compiled reports, she knew the AI already had answers.
"Twenty percent below projections," Ai Yue smiled. "Ladies, we've earned our celebration."
Mobius exhaled in relief. Hua smiled genuinely. Aponia remained impassive, as if expecting this outcome. Eden staggered toward the portal.
"I must return," the world-renowned singer swayed. "Such blessings demand my finest vintages..."
Ai Yue intercepted her.
"I never anticipated 'Divine Sound's' efficacy," Mobius mused, lifting her glass. "And this was just a baseline implementation. With refinement..."
"That risks unpredictable consequences," Ai Yue cautioned. "Mobius, patience. 'Divine Sound' derives from Aponia's Commandments. You understand how volatile this power is."
The Divine Sound Project analyzed Aponia's Commandments to develop controlled "pseudo-commandments," then fused them with Eden's music. By eliminating variables, they amplified hope and courage while minimizing disclosure fallout - the team's recent focus.
