The way she trembles—holding a hand to her chest, breathing shakily, just trying to keep the tears in—is something that will haunt me forever.
It needed to be done. I tell myself I'm doing the right thing, but the deep longing and ache that follows is something I'll have to live with for a while.
"Zara, I—"
"You're right. I'm always going to be an Omega." She sniffs, wiping the tears that cascade with the material of her dress. I struggle to keep my eyes off her—her curvy figure. She isn't overly faux. She is beautiful... and I just ruined it.
"Wait, I didn't mean to—" But she was gone. The scent of her perfume lingers in the air, and the familiar presence of her wolf does too.
This is the right thing. It must be.
To distract myself from her absence, I dial Roy's number, my fingers swiping over the smartphone effortlessly—and desperately.
I need to get back on track. That's the essence of what I did.
