After gaining Slytherin's help, Wade did not go back on his word.
The following evening, he called Tom to the Chamber of Secrets alone.
Slytherin had temporarily returned from Africa through the Vanishing Cabinet and was standing in the middle of the Chamber, watching Wade with a fixed, expectant look, arms folded as if he meant to stay until the matter was finished.
After all, he had insisted on personally witnessing Wade give Tom a portion of the purified magic, and he had no intention of missing a single moment of it.
"Why did you call me here?" Tom asked nervously, glancing around the dark stone and the empty stretch of floor between them.
There were very few lights in the Chamber, making the place look especially gloomy. Even Tom thought the atmosphere was far too sinister for anything that was supposed to be a simple conversation.
If his ancestor had not been standing nearby watching, he might have assumed Wade had finally decided to use him as a sacrifice in some Dark Magic ritual.
"I brought you here because I have something to give you. And your ancestor will personally witness it," Wade said solemnly.
Tom became even more uneasy. "No... if you've got something to say, just say it normally. Don't make this so terrifying..."
Wade did not answer. He simply took out a capsule the size of a fist and handed it over without another word of explanation.
"What is this?" Tom asked suspiciously as he took it and turned it over in his fingers, as if staring at it long enough might tell him what was inside.
"Swallow it," Wade said.
Tom frowned at the suspicious-looking capsule. "How about... you tell me what it is first?"
"It's something beneficial to you. Stop wasting time. Do you really think your own ancestor would harm you?" Wade said impatiently.
"But... this thing is the size of my fist. I can't swallow it..." Tom said awkwardly, still holding it away from his mouth as if distance might help.
"There's nothing I can do about that. Your ancestor insisted on this amount. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been willing to give you so much!" Wade said with a pained expression.
Slytherin smiled in satisfaction at that, clearly pleased with the size of what Wade had produced and with how unwilling Wade looked while handing it over.
Slytherin only knew that this was the purified "residue" Wade had extracted from Miravia. He did not know that, given enough time, Wade could obtain as much of it as he wanted. He assumed the supply was limited, and that made the gift look all the more generous in his eyes.
So he was very pleased that Wade had reluctantly given such a large amount to Tom.
"Swallow it, Tom. I wouldn't harm you," Slytherin said with a smile.
"No... are neither of you listening to the important part?" Tom said in frustration. "How am I supposed to swallow a capsule the size of my fist?"
Before Tom could finish speaking, Wade flicked his wand.
Tom's hand moved out of his control and shoved the capsule into his mouth.
"Mmph! Mmph!"
"So troublesome... You'll know what it is once you swallow it. Why insist on making me explain first?" Wade said impatiently, dusting off his hands.
Tom, however, was choking so badly that his eyes rolled back.
Worse still, once the capsule entered his mouth, it seemed to grow limbs and began crawling directly toward his stomach.
Tom clutched his mouth and collapsed to the ground in terror as the sensation of suffocation filled him with despair.
"It's over... I'm going to die today..."
"Tch... Couldn't you have used a gentler method?" Slytherin said unhappily as he watched Tom collapse on the cold stone floor.
Wade shook his head. "Of course he could open the capsule and absorb it slowly, but that would inevitably cause some loss. Once this stuff is purified, it evaporates the moment it comes into contact with air. So wrapping it in a capsule and swallowing it directly is the best method. That way, there's no unnecessary loss of magic and he can absorb everything. Old man, you know how precious this stuff is."
After hearing that, Slytherin no longer objected.
After all, this purified magic was indeed precious. Wasting even a little of it would practically be a crime.
"Cough, cough, cough..."
Tom finally recovered and struggled to climb back to his feet, still shaking from the effort.
"How do you feel?" Wade immediately asked.
"Awful... absolutely awful... and disgusting..." Tom said hoarsely, his face pale.
The sensation of something with legs crawling down his throat was truly difficult to describe.
But once the capsule completely entered his stomach, the enormous amount of pure magic inside instantly spread throughout his entire body.
At that moment, Tom finally understood what it was.
Barring any accidents, the pure magic inside that capsule would increase his magical strength by a terrifying amount.
Fine. It really was something good.
It was just horribly unpleasant.
Still, as long as something could make him stronger, Tom could endure any amount of discomfort.
While Tom carefully sensed the changes in his body, Wade took out a notebook and began asking him questions while writing down his responses one after another as if none of this were unusual.
The longer Slytherin watched, the stranger it seemed.
"Wait... don't tell me this capsule didn't actually have enough experimental data behind it before you made Tom take it?"
"Hmm... as for experimental data..." Wade finished writing the last few lines, then put the notebook back into his pocket. "There's enough now!"
"Shit! So you really did use me as a test subject!" Tom shouted angrily.
Thinking back on the terrifying experience just now, Tom could not help feeling a lingering fear.
What if the thing had failed and exploded inside him?
What if it had gotten stuck in his throat and stopped him from breathing?
Wouldn't he have died just like that?
"Oh... Tom, hearing you say that truly breaks my heart. How would you know? I was actually the first test subject for this power."
Wade looked deeply saddened.
