Chapter 69 - 69. A Debt of Love (2)

City T.

Outside the window, it was pouring rain.

Tang Huainan's gaze fell to the window. Sheng Xia hadn't taken an umbrella when she left, and he wondered if she had gotten home yet.

Because of the rain, Tang Huainan, who was about to leave, was stopped by Su Nuan.

Su Nuan brought over two cups of hot tea, placing one in front of Tang Huainan and holding the other in her own hands.

The cold wind rattled against the windows, making the room seem even quieter.

"Is Major Tang back on vacation this time?" Perhaps because the silence made her feel uneasy, Su Nuan started a conversation.

"Huainan." Tang Huainan's irrelevant answer momentarily stunned Su Nuan.

"I told you you can call me Huainan. I feel a little embarrassed to keep calling me Major Tang."

Tang Huainan's voice was very pleasant, and Su Nuan nodded after thinking for a long time.

"And you? I thought you lived with your parents." Tang Huainan had looked around but hadn't seen any trace of her family, and his intuition told him that there seemed to be something going on.

"I—I was adopted. My adoptive mother is no longer in T City."

Su Nuan didn't try to hide it; instead, Tang Huainan seemed apologetic.

"Really? That's still better than me. I grew up in an orphanage." Tang Huainan's voice was calm, like a cup of clear tea.

Su Nuan suddenly looked up at him—

When Lin Shengxia followed Gu Zekai downstairs, her face was slightly pale.

Two dishes and a soup, freshly prepared, are laid out on the octagonal table; it's just the right amount for two people without any waste.

The elder who had opened the door for them earlier was nowhere to be found. After hesitating for a moment, Lin Shengxia sat down with Gu Zekai.

The two ate their meal in complete silence; Lin Shengxia was really hungry.

Since finding out she was pregnant, her appetite has become increasingly picky, and she would vomit if her food was not to her liking.

But today, whether it was because the food was delicious or she was really starving, she didn't even feel nauseous when she ate the cured meat. Instead, she finished a bowl of rice and still felt it wasn't enough, so she subconsciously handed the bowl to Gu Zekai.

It took her a while to come to her senses under Gu Zekai's strange gaze.

Her face flushed slightly, but then dimmed again in an instant.

Gu Zekai didn't say anything, but took the small bowl and filled it with rice from the rice cooker before handing it to her.

"Thank you." Lin Shengxia hesitated for a moment before finally saying those two words.

Gu Zekai seemed not to hear, his cold eyes and brows showing no emotion whatsoever.

"Young master, the guest room—" Just as they were finishing their meal, the elder who had come to open the door for them reappeared silently.

She hesitated for a moment, but seeing that Lin Shengxia was still there, she didn't say anything more.

Normally, the young master wouldn't stay overnight, but judging from today's situation, he's bound to stay. There's only one room left—

"That room is fine for the two of us."

Gu Zekai's words instantly shattered Lin Shengxia's calm facade. Her almond-shaped eyes widened as she stared at his expressionless profile.

"Okay, I've cleaned the room."

After saying this, the elder turned around and disappeared again.

"Don't overthink it. There are only three bedrooms here. I would never let you disturb my mother or aunt." Gu Zekai's voice was frosty, every word icy.

But in Lin Shengxia's eyes, tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.
