Emile marched Micah toward the lake like he was escorting a prisoner. The campus lake, nestled among tall ginkgo and maple trees already shedding golden leaves, shimmered under the chilly autumn sky. The surface rippled in a stiff wind. Students walking by hugged their scarves tighter.
Micah's stomach churned.
This was it. This felt like an execution ground.
He was panicking inside. Shit! Emile had definitely found out! There was no explanation for being dragged out like this. Emile probably pieced together that Asena and Micah were the same person.
He scrambled to come up with one thousand excuses to deny that he had ever acted as Asena: I have an identical twin sister. I have a split personality that likes dressing as a girl. Someone was trying to frame me!
His imagination was cut short when Emile stopped and turned around.
"Micah… I want to ask you something." Emile said in a profound tone.
