"You?" Fluorescent spat out with disbelief, her brows drawing together. "That wasn't even among your options," she protested and Maultner did not object.
"You want to be with Maultner and you're with him. What does it matter if it's up there in the woods or down here by the lake?"
"But I wanted to be with you," Maultner insisted.
"Well, we can't always have what we want can we?" I retorted. Maultner shrunk back to my satisfaction. I folded my hands defensively. "I have died more than once for this. I can bring back a committee member all on my own."
"And what would both of us be doing in the meantime?"
"Keep a lookout or something, I dunno. This use to be the Maultnereans base before they all disappeared and it became a no man's land. Maybe they left something behind. You both agreed to abide by my decision, and this is my decision." I shot them my most meaningful look.
