Chapter 4 - Dungeon's Core

The chamber was silent now, save for the faint drip of water echoing from somewhere in the shadows. Reikazu stood over the worg's lifeless body, his chest heaving, the iron sword clutched tightly in his hand. Blood dripped from the blade, pooling at his feet, mingling with the dirt and grime of the stone floor. His body ached, his muscles screaming from the exertion, but he couldn't afford to rest. Not here. Not now.

The system had rewarded him for his victory, but the notification that followed sent a chill down his spine.

[ Warning: Dungeon Core Detected. ]

Reikazu's eyes narrowed as he scanned the chamber. The air was thick with tension, the faint tremor beneath his feet growing stronger. The dungeon core. He had heard stories about them—mythical objects that served as the heart of a dungeon, the source of its power. If he could destroy it, he might be able to escape this nightmare.

But first, he needed to find it.

The chamber was vast, its walls lined with crumbling statues and ancient carvings that seemed to tell a story of death and despair. The air was cold and damp, carrying with it a sense of foreboding that made Reikazu's skin crawl. He moved cautiously, his senses on high alert. Every sound, every movement, sent a jolt of adrenaline through his veins. His new skill, Battle Focus, was ready to be used, but he knew he had to save it for the right moment.

As he approached the far end of the chamber, he noticed a narrow passageway leading downward. The walls were slick with moisture, the air growing colder as he descended. The passageway opened into a larger chamber, its ceiling lost in darkness. In the center of the chamber stood a massive stone pedestal, its surface glowing with an eerie, pulsating light.

The dungeon core.

Reikazu's breath caught in his throat as he approached the pedestal. The core was a massive crystal, its surface shimmering with a dark, malevolent energy. It seemed to pulse with a life of its own, its light casting long, jagged shadows across the chamber. The air around it was thick with power, the very fabric of reality seeming to warp and twist in its presence.

Reikazu exhaled sharply, his grip tightening on the sword. Destroying the core wouldn't be easy. The dungeon would throw everything it had at him to protect it. But he had no choice. This was his only way out.

As if on cue, the chamber began to tremble, the ground shaking violently beneath his feet. The air grew thick with the sound of scraping stone and guttural growls. From the shadows emerged a horde of creatures. Goblins, worgs, and other monsters he couldn't even name. Their eyes glowed with a feral hunger, their movements quick and predatory.

Reikazu's heart pounded in his chest. He was outnumbered. Outmatched. But he couldn't back down. Not now.

He activated Battle Focus.

The world seemed to slow as the skill took effect. His senses sharpened, his movements becoming faster, more precise. The pain in his body faded, replaced by a surge of adrenaline. He could feel the power coursing through him, his strength and speed amplified.

The horde charged.

Reikazu met them head-on, his sword flashing in the dim light. He moved with a speed and precision he didn't know he was capable of, his blade cutting through the monsters with ease. A goblin lunged at him, its crude dagger slashing toward his chest. Reikazu sidestepped, driving the sword into its side. The creature let out a gurgling cry before collapsing.

A worg leapt at him, its massive claws slashing through the air. Reikazu ducked under the attack, swinging the sword in a wide arc. The blade bit deep into the creature's chest, drawing a howl of pain. The worg stumbled, its movements slowing. Reikazu didn't hesitate. He pressed the attack, driving the sword into the creature's skull.

The horde kept coming, their numbers seemingly endless. Reikazu fought with everything he had, his body moving on instinct. His sword was a blur, cutting through the monsters with deadly precision. But he knew he couldn't keep this up forever. Battle Focus had a time limit, and he was already feeling the strain.

He needed to end this. Now.

Reikazu broke through the horde, sprinting toward the dungeon core. The monsters gave chase, their roars echoing through the chamber. He reached the pedestal, his sword raised high. With a cry of defiance, he brought the blade down on the core.

The crystal shattered, its dark energy exploding outward in a blinding flash of light. The chamber shook violently, the ground cracking beneath his feet. The monsters let out a final, guttural roar before collapsing, their bodies dissolving into shadow.

Reikazu's eyes widened. A new skill. And a useful one at that.

He looked around the chamber, a sense of grim satisfaction washing over him. The dungeon was collapsing, its walls crumbling as the core's energy faded. He needed to get out of here.

As he turned to leave, he noticed a faint glimmer of light coming from the shattered remains of the core. He approached cautiously, his eyes widening as he saw a small, glowing crystal lying amidst the debris.

Reikazu picked up the shard, its surface warm to the touch. He didn't know what it was for, but he had a feeling it would come in handy.

As he emerged from the dungeon, the sunlight hit his face, warm and comforting. He collapsed to the ground, his body trembling with exhaustion. He had done it. He had survived.
