Chapter 6 - A rush of colors

The chains siphoned so much of the beast's radiance that it became a husk of what it once was, a giant reduced to a pebble. Yet, it hovered within the circumference of the chains looking on ahead to the empowered man.

Mike's body soon adapted to the presence of radiance, his new magical chains acting as a stabilizer–controlling the amount that got into him.

He soon got a hold of himself, gazing at his glowing arms. It was like a thin field of energy made his body its home. He looked ahead at the shrunken beast, squinting his eyes as he was slightly befuddled at the reach of his eyesight.

On this night, he was like a bright blue lantern illuminating the radius about him.

He could see kilometers far, could smell the malice exuding from the radiant beast, no, he could see it.

"The colors." A red smoke oozed from the beast's feathers, and Mike didn't need to have anyone tell him that it represented the creature's rage and hate directed at him. It was beyond eye-opening.

He could hear the subtle gritting of the beast's teeth, the rustle of the leaves high above, the hurried buzz of a fly trapped in a web, his awareness was made thousandfold and he was ecstatic.

"Have I taken a forbidden food?" The great increase in awareness and rush of might felt too good to be true. Surely, a mere human like Mike shouldn't have access to this power.

'I have robbed this creature of its power, I can't have this.' His eyes drifted to the red chains now aglow with radiance. If Mike could instruct the chains, chances were that he would have them return back the creature's radiance.

Though the pain caused by the tearing of his muscles had disappeared–that he momentarily forgot about the gapes in his arms, Mike was immediately drawn to it once he began hearing the sound of his muscle fibers mending themselves, his torn skin fixed itself, stretching to join by their torn ends. It was incredible to watch, it was magic.

Mike recalled the wind move he had done earlier. He had doubts that night he had tried to repeat it, no more doubt hung in his mind now however, he felt like he could do anything.

He held out his hand, and then swiped to the right, and a powerful gust of wind followed, and it had come like a swing of a blade.

Mike was standing when a number of his chains drifted, fixing themselves into the ground and then thrusting him upwards, and acting as his new legs. It seemed that way until they withdrew and hung up, pulling themselves from the soil, but Mike didn't fall, he ought to be surprised but it didn't come as a shock to him.

"Hmmm," he levitated to the radiant beast who now bared its teeth against him, its feathers standing in angry defiance.

"I wonder what will happen if I touch you." As soon as Mike moved his hand into the circle, the beast swooped in and opened its jaw to bite him. Mike withdrew but stopped almost immediately, letting the creature clamp its large teeth on his fingers.

His fingers tingled slightly, the chomp hurt, however, what was more interesting was that the contact was having radiance siphoned back into the creature, and the beast was noticeably increasing in size. The beast appeared not to have any intention of having Mike withdraw its arm, and a terrible frown hung on its face as it got back what was rightfully its.

Mike however, forcefully pulled his arm away, leaving a trail of blood. The fresh wounds almost immediately sealed once the teeth were off.

"You are a proud one." He grinned at the radiant beast.

"But then, what do I do with this new power? I feel invincible. To think these chains easily overwhelmed a creature with so much power." He looked back to the radiant beast, and he was hit with slight surprise once more.

"It continues to grow, Is its power returning to it?" He looked to the chains like he was expecting an answer.

"Of course I won't get a response from you."

Mike could see its glow returning to it though he was certain the chains weren't returning the radiance present in him.

He would have gasped were he not enlightened by this radiance.

"It is capable of regenerating such might, that's scary."

Previously, it was smaller than Mike's fist, now however, it was the size of his head, and looked well on its way to grow even larger.

"Would this new might of…" he paused, glancing at the rightful owner.

"Would this power eventually wear off?" Mike felt fear over the possibility, and though fear wasn't new to him, it felt unfamiliar experiencing it in this state.

He heard a violent rustle of leaves kilometers away and though it was night, his vision was clear as day, and he saw a dwarf brush forward through a berry bush. Mike tensed and froze, and the dwarves' eyes locked with his.

Though they were over a thousand metres away, Mike could tell they could see him at this distance, like the beast they too were radiant.

He looked to the starry sky, bright lines of colors ran through the night sky and Mike contemplated flying. Perhaps he wouldn't feel like he was sticking out with the multitudes of colors present above.

The dwarves were closing in fast, some were approaching fast with a swift trail of mud. Again, the talent and control mesmerized Mike, but he quickly snapped out of it, he needed to escape fast.

He looked at the radiant beast and he hovered back instinctively out of the beast's swift growth, it was almost back to its original size. Mike's eyes drifted between it and the approaching dwarves.

Like the chains could sense his distress, they suddenly closed in on the creature, and with a bright glow, it was gone, and the chains loosened themselves once again, giving Mike ample control.

He was about to go flying when noticed a little radiant beast scuttle by.

'I would be quite the target up there if they catch sight of me.'

Flying in an open field would be disastrous for him if they made long ranged attacks.

"Wait, why am I assuming I can fly?"
