Two hours had passed since Freya arrived at her house. The quietness of her apartment had gradually begun to feel familiar again as she settled in, curled up in the warm cocoon of her throw blanket with a bowl of popcorn in her lap and a romance movie playing on the television.
The flickering images on the screen reflected softly on her skin, but her attention wavered. Her thoughts had been scattered since she got back, constantly drifting back to Tessy and the chaos of the day. She hadn't been able to relax, not fully.
Suddenly, the sharp buzz of her phone jolted her back to the present. Her hand reached instinctively for it, flipping it over on the couch cushion beside her. A message notification lit up the screen, and when she unlocked it, her heart gave a tiny lurch.
