Chapter 27 - Chapter 26: Secrets Unrevealed part 2

"Right now, I can't explain what happened to Serena," Jimin continued, his voice trembling as he recalled the brutal torture David and Professor Ben had inflicted on him. "But it seems like Professor Ben is doing something horrible, and he wanted to work with David. The real goal of this organization was to create a new creature using different types of DNA. Your dad kept this hidden from you because he was afraid his secrets would be revealed."

Anna's lower lip trembled. "Did you really know who abducted Serena?" she asked, glaring at her father with hatred. "Tell me, did you know Professor Ben abducted Serena?" she shouted, her voice echoing loudly in the garden.

"Tell us, David. Did you really know everything?" Jennifer appeared from the back. Her eyes were puffy and red, as she too had heard everything Jimin revealed about David. Kevin followed closely behind her, matching her steps.

When Kevin saw Serena's dead body in the garden, Jennifer lost consciousness, but after an hour, she woke up and appeared in the garden at the right time.

"It's not true, Dad, right?" Kevin asked, hoping that everything he had heard from Jimin was wrong.

"You told me the day we got married that you left that organization and wouldn't join again. So why did Professor Ben abduct my daughter?" Jennifer shouted. She walked closer to David, grabbed his collar, and hit him with her hands. "You promised me you wouldn't do this again, so why is my daughter paying for your sins? Why?" she screamed.

David gazed at Jennifer, his guilt sealing his lips. He finally accepted his failure as a father and as a husband.

Jennifer's face twisted with anger and pain as she stared at David. Her voice shook, "You knew about Serena's abduction. You were part of that horrible organization. You let this happen to our daughter!" She stepped closer to him, her eyes blazing. "I can't believe I trusted you. I can't believe I married you. You're a liar, David. A coward!"

David's shoulders slumped, and tears streamed down his face. He looked at Jennifer, his voice breaking. "I'm sorry, Jennifer. I'm so sorry. I never wanted this to happen. I thought I could protect us. I thought I could leave that life behind. But I was wrong. I failed you. I failed Serena. I failed everyone."

Jennifer didn't soften. Her hands clenched into fists, and she turned to Ryan. "Arrest him, Ryan. He knew about Serena's abduction. He was part of that secret organization. He hid the truth from all of us. He doesn't deserve to walk free."

Ryan stepped forward, his face serious. He pulled out his handcuffs and approached David. "David, you're under arrest for withholding information about Serena's abduction and for your involvement in the secret organization. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court."

David didn't resist. He held out his hands, his head hanging low. "I deserve this," he whispered. "I deserve to pay for what I've done."

Ryan snapped the handcuffs around David's wrists and began leading him toward the police car. Anna watched, her face pale and her eyes filled with tears. She didn't say anything, but her hands trembled at her sides.

Jennifer turned away, unable to look at David anymore. "Take him away, Ryan. I don't want to see him again," she said in a cold voice.

Ryan nodded and guided David into the back of the police car. As he closed the door, he glanced at Jennifer and Anna. "I'll make sure he answers for what he's done. I'll find out everything about Serena's abduction and this organization. I promise." He said, then gestured the driver to take the car away.

Jennifer didn't respond. She just stood there, her arms wrapped around herself, staring at the ground. Anna stepped closer to her mother, tears streaming down her face. "Mom, are you alright?" she asked worriedly.

"How can I be alright after all this, Anna?" Jennifer said, her teeth gritted. "Serena paid for David's mistakes. It could have been Kevin or you, but why did it have to happen to my daughter?" she cried, her voice breaking.

Anna gazed at her mother, stunned by her words. For the first time in her life, Anna realized that Jennifer was her stepmother.

"I... I'm really sorry for whatever happened to Serena," Anna said apologetically, as if everything that had happened to Serena was her fault.

"Your apology can't bring back my daughter," Jennifer replied firmly. She wiped her tears and made her way back to the house.

Anna stood frozen, unable to believe that her life had turned upside down. Serena was gone, and David had been arrested. Despite her swollen eyes, she couldn't stop crying.

"Anna, I have to leave now, but please take care of yourself," Ryan said, receiving a small nod from Anna. "Kevin, you have to come with us since you were the one who saw Serena's dead body," he added.

Kevin nodded. "Don't take her words too seriously. You know Mom is messed up," he said, gently caressing Anna's shoulder.

Just as Ryan turned to leave and Kevin followed him, a random question jolted his mind. He thought for a moment and turned back. "Jimin, I don't get one thing. How did you discover everything about David and the organization?" he asked curiously, planting a seed of doubt in everyone's mind.

"Yeah, I thought about it too. How did you find out everything about my dad, Jimin?" Kevin added.

Anna realized that she had almost forgotten about Jimin. How had he found out all the secrets about her dad, the past David had kept hidden from everyone? She looked at Jimin with a curious gaze, desperate to hear an answer.

"Well, I know someone who was captured and tortured by this organization," Jimin replied. "But I definitely can't reveal further details," he said, slipping his hands into his pants pockets. He glared at Ryan venomously. "Right now, Officer Ryan, you should focus on David. He could give you details about the professor," he suggested.

Anna sighed heavily. "Jimin is right. We should find out about the professor so the police can punish him," she said in a low, trembling voice, still mourning the death of her sister.

Jungkook, who had reached his limit in enduring this family drama, scoffed in annoyance. "You must be getting late, Officer," he said with a smile. "You should leave now since you have a lot of work to do."

Ryan felt defeated. He realized winning against the Park brothers would be a hard task. He stepped closer to Anna. "Call me anytime, okay?" he said, gently patting Anna's head.

Anna forced a smile. "Don't worry, I'll take care of myself," she said.

Ryan extended his hand toward Jimin, but Jimin refused to shake it. "You shouldn't be worried about her. I'm here for Anna since we're more than friends," he said.

Ryan pulled his hand back, feeling insulted but stopping himself from reacting. Without wasting any further time, he gave Anna one last reassuring smile and turned to leave. Kevin followed him, with Ryan settling into the driver's seat and Kevin into the passenger seat.

Anna watched the car leave, feeling exhausted.

"I think we should leave too," Jungkook said.

Before Jimin could make any decision, Anna grabbed his hand and stepped closer. "Can you stay with me tonight? I don't know why, but I'm a little scared and feeling lonely," she begged.

Jimin looked at Anna, his expression softening as he saw the fear and loneliness in her eyes. Despite the fact that Anna was David's daughter, Jimin couldn't hide his concern for her. He gently squeezed her hand and nodded. "Of course, I'll stay with you," he said, his voice calm and reassuring. "You don't have to face this alone. I'm here for you."

Anna nodded, feeling grateful, her grip on his hand tightening slightly. Jimin turned to Jungkook, his expression firm but calm. "Jungkook, you should go home now. I'll stay with Anna tonight," he said, his voice leaving no room for argument.

Jungkook raised an eyebrow, clearly annoyed. "Why should I leave? You think I can't handle this?" he shot back, his tone sharp.

Jimin's gaze didn't waver. "This isn't about you. Anna needs someone right now, and I'm staying. You don't have to be here for this. Go home and rest," he replied, his voice steady but with an edge of finality.

Jungkook glared at him for a moment, then scoffed. "Fine. Do whatever you want," he muttered, turning on his heel and walking away. He didn't look back as he disappeared into the night.

Jimin watched him go, then turned back to Anna. He gently took her hand again, his expression softening. "Let's go inside," he said quietly. "You're not alone anymore. I'm here."

Anna nodded, her eyes filled with gratitude, and let Jimin lead her into the house.
