Chapter 3 - A Walk In The Night

As the night wore on, Elara found herself feeling more and more at ease in Arin's presence. They walked through the gardens, talking and laughing together, and for the first time since her arrival at the castle, Elara felt like she could be herself.

As they strolled, Arin told her stories about his childhood, about growing up as a shifter and learning to control his powers. Elara listened, entranced, feeling like she was seeing a side of him that few people got to experience.

In turn, Elara shared stories about her own childhood, about growing up in a family of powerful magic users and feeling like she didn't quite fit in. Arin listened intently, his eyes sparkling with interest, and Elara felt like he truly understood her.

As the night drew to a close, Arin walked Elara back to the castle, his arm gallantly offered to escort her. Elara took it, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him. She had been so sure that she would hate him, that he would be cold and distant and uncaring. But instead, she had found a kindred spirit, someone who understood her in a way that few people ever had.

As they reached the castle door, Arin turned to her and smiled. "Thank you for tonight, Elara," he said, his voice low and husky. "I feel like I've gotten to know you in a way that I never thought possible."

Elara smiled back at him, feeling a sense of connection that she couldn't ignore. "I feel the same way, Arin," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Arin's eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, Elara felt like she was drowning in their depths. She felt a spark of attraction, a sense of desire that she couldn't ignore.

And then, in an instant, it was gone. Arin stepped back, his expression neutral once more. "I'll see you at breakfast, Elara," he said, his voice formal once more.

Elara nodded, feeling a sense of disappointment wash over her. She had thought, for a moment, that something more might happen between them. But instead, it seemed like they were back to their formal roles, like nothing had ever happened between them.

As she watched Arin turn and walk away, Elara couldn't help but feel a sense of confusion. What had just happened between them? And what did it mean for their future together?

The next morning, Elara woke up feeling a sense of trepidation. She had no idea what the day would bring, or how Arin would behave towards her. Would he be cold and distant, or would he be the kind and charming man she had met in the gardens?

As she dressed and made her way to the breakfast hall, Elara couldn't help but feel a sense of nervousness. She had no idea what to expect, or how she would react to whatever Arin threw her way.

But as she entered the hall and saw Arin sitting at the head of the table, his eyes locked onto hers and a small smile playing on his lips, Elara felt a sense of relief wash over her. Maybe, just maybe, this day wouldn't be so bad after all.

"Good morning, Elara," Arin said, his voice low and husky, as she took her seat beside him.

Elara smiled back at him, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him. "Good morning, Arin," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

As they ate their breakfast, Elara couldn't help but steal glances at Arin. She was drawn to him, she realized, in a way that she couldn't ignore. She felt a sense of excitement, of anticipation, as she wondered what the day would bring.

And as they finished their meal and Arin stood up, his eyes locked onto hers, Elara felt a sense of certainty wash over her. She knew, in that moment, that she was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, as long as Arin was by her side.

"Shall we?" Arin said, his voice low and husky, as he offered her his arm.

Elara smiled, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. "Let's," she replied, taking his arm and walking with him out of the breakfast hall, into a day filled with unknown possibilities.
