Kazakhstan is indeed different from China. Although it's the largest landlocked country in Central Asia, its population is less than twenty million.
The place where Jiang Feng and his two companions entered the country happened to be the most remote and desolate area of Kazakhstan. After traveling for more than half a day, they didn't see many people or find many villages. Surrounding them were barren Gobi and sparsely populated wilderness, and they couldn't replenish their food and water supplies.

Almaty is located in the central part of Kazakhstan, which means that Jiang Feng and his companions had to cross at least half of Kazakhstan to reach Almaty. The difficulty of this journey can only be understood through firsthand experience.
