Chapter 5 - Chapter V

Prince Family Apartment, New York, 8:30 AM.

July 19th, 2010.

Perseus walks out of his room with a yawn; he rubs his bedhead as he heads straight to the kitchen walking pass his mom sitting by Batman holding a briefcase.

"Morning mom, Batman," He greets barely registering Batman as he opens the fridge and grabs a carton of milk before moving over to grab the cereal then he paused as everything finally registered, "Hey mom…"

"Yes Perse?" She said with the amusement clear in her tone.

"What's Batman doing here?"

Before she could answer Batman walks over to Perseus and hands him the briefcase, "This will be your uniform whenever you go out on the job."

Perseus opens it and his eyes widen, "Wait here!" He said excitedly before rushing back to his room. A couple of minutes later he walks back out with a sleeveless black mock neck with a simplified eagle spread thin across his chest and above the eagle the shirt turns red, simple black combat pants with a silver 'W' belt buckle, steel toe boots, and finally fingerless gloves. "What do you think?"

Diana smiles, "It suits you."

"Really? I feel like it's missing a few things."

"Like what?" Batman speaks up.

"I don't know…" Perseus looked at his suit trying to figure out what's missing before it clicked, "Oh! I might know what one of the thing's this is missing." He rushes back to his room and grabs the jacket he got from the mall and puts it on.

Diana looked somewhat confused but smiled, "Won't the gold mess with the silver?"

"You think so? It looks perfect to me." Perseus says then looking at Diana with excited eyes, "Before we go, can I go and show the team this?!"

Diana looks pass his to glance at the clock and nods, "Sure but be fast."

"Yes!" Perseus fist pumps the air before rushing out of the apartment and flying towards Rhode Island at top speed.

Batman looks at Diana, "He knows the zeta-tube's quicker right?"

Diana sighs, "Yes, but he enjoys flying."

Mount Justice, Happy Harbor, 9:15 AM.

Superboy was sitting in the living area watching static on the tv until he was interrupted by the cave announcing Perseus' arrival; Recognized: Thaûma, B-06. He gets up and goes over to greet him and is met with Perseus posing.

Superboy smiles, "Hey Perse, nice suit."

"I know right? Batman came over to personally give it to me." Perseus pointed to himself with a smug smile, "By the way, where's M'gann."

"I'm right here!" A shout came from the kitchen as M'gann rushed out and gasped once she looked at Perseus. "That suit looks amazing!" Then she formed a black jacket with a red 'X' on the back. "We all should get jackets! And you should get a suit too Superboy!"

Superboy folds his arms, "Sorry, I don't do tights."

"I'm not wearing tights…"

"This," Superboy points to Perseus' shirt, "Still counts."

Perseus scoffs then smiles, "Well I got some other news besides the suit."

Superboy punches his shoulder, "Well, don't leave us hanging."

"I'm pretty sure that I'm going to meet my grandmother today!"

Superboy and M'gann looked confused, "Zatara's mom?" Superboy asks.

Perseus shakes his head, "Nope!"

Now they looked even more confused, "Perse, you know the Amazons aren't particularly accepting of men, right?" Superboy asks.

"So?" Perseus said confused, "I'm family."

"To Wonder Woman's mom," M'gann pointed out, "Even if she accepts you that doesn't mean the rest of them will…" M'gann looked saddened by the topic so Perseus quickly tried to change the vibe.

"Hey M'gann, when I get back how about you watch me kick Superboy's butt in the arcade? We'll invite the whole team!"

"That sounds amazing!" M'gann smiled widely.

Superboy wrapped his arm around Perseus' neck, "I think you mean watch you lose horribly."

Perseus summons a ball of water over Superboy's head before letting it fall, "Whatever dude, I'll catch you all later." He quickly left the cave before Superboy could retaliate, leaving him angry and wet.

Themyscira, 2:20 PM.

As Diana and Perseus landed on the docks of Themyscira Perseus can already feel their gazes on him but ignoring it he focused on his mother.

Diana ruffles his hair, "A+. You're learning fast."

"I had a lot of practice." Perseus grins as they began walking into the city.

"So, mom," Perseus spoke catching her, and everyone nearby attention. "You grew up here, right? Where did you train?"

Diana smiles, "Follow me."

Mother and son walked side by side for a bit, each ignoring the growing crowd following behind them. Diana greets a couple of them as she walks by until they reach the arena where a black-haired woman and blonde woman were fighting.

"Wow they're really going at it." Perseus says watching the black-haired woman catch the spear thrown at and throwing it back at the blonde. Then he noticed something about the black-haired woman; he turns to Diana but before he could get a word out, she spoke.

"She is my younger sister, Donna." Perseus made a silent 'oh' before facing the arena again.

"Princess Diana." A voice calls out walking up to Diana and bowing her head before turning to Perseus, "Is this the boy?"

"This is my son, Perseus. Perseus this is General Phillippus." Diana said gesturing between the two.

Perseus stretch his hand out, "Nice to meet you."

Phillippus did not return the gesture, "Likewise," She turns to Diana, "The Queen awaits the both of you in the throne room. I hope he is prepared…"

Diana nods, "Lead the way," She looks at Perseus opening her mouth to speak but he beat her to it.

"Yeah, yeah, follow you." He waved her off.

They began to take their lengthy walk in silence except the occasional muttering on the Amazons they pass. Once they made it to the throne room, they were met with a dark-haired woman wearing a light purple dress.

Diana steps up to speak but Perseus, once again, beat her to it. "You're the queen, right? My grandmother." Perseus grinned.

Audible gasps fill the room from nearby Amazons and even a couple of them drop their spears. Hippolyta raised a brow, hiding her surprise, "You call me this so… casually?"

Perseus blinked, confused. "Well… you're my mom's mom, right? That means you're my grandma… well that's at least what I know from J'onn."

Some of the Amazons began walking up to him but Hippolyta halts them and smiles a Perseus, "It's fine. He does not know our customs yet." Then she turned to Diana, "Daughter, when I got news of your son, I expected him to be… younger. Is he of our blood?"

Diana nods, "While the way he came into my life was… unexpected, he is my blood."

"Originally men are not allowed on our island, but the world is changing, and we must change with it." Hippolyta states looking at Perseus, "You are being trained in our ways but not yet one of our own. If you would claim the honor of the symbol, you wear you will earn it by trial."

Perseus steps forward, brimming with confidence. "I'm ready."

"That's the spirit! Your trial will consist of three parts: Strength, Skill, and Spirit. Complete them and you will have earn your place!"

"Alright! When do I start?" Perseus asked

"You will start later this day in the meantime…" She looks toward all the Amazons in the room besides Diana, "Leave us."

The room stayed mostly silent with the occasional murmurs of the departing Amazons. Soon after they all left Hippolyta looked toward Diana and frowned, "I'm disappointed that it took me finding out about my…" She looked amused, "Grandson, for you to visit."

"Mother you know that I'm busy with—" Diana stared but Hippolyta interrupted

"Yes, yes, your heroics as well as your duty as our ambassador and I am very proud of you, but I wish you would visit more often."

"I could visit in her place," Perseus speaks up, "After all I have more free time than her."

"While I would appreciate that uh—I'm sorry I didn't get your name."

"It's Perseus, Perseus Zatara Prince!"

Hippolyta threw a quick glance at Diana before speaking, "Well, Perseus if you do not pass your trials, you will be forbidden from stepping foot in Themyscira again."

Perseus smiles, "I'm confident that I'll pass." The smile suddenly grew mischievous, "So, what was mom like growing up? Anything funny?"

Diana wasn't having it and stated, "You didn't know the difference between an apple and a strawberry. I doubt anything I've done beats that."

Hippolyta suddenly started bursting out laughing, "I remember when Diana was twelve and she challenged my sister, Antiope, to a race across the cliffs."

Diana, groaning, tried to stop her but Hippolyta wasn't budging, "She was so determined to prove herself that she forgot to tie her sandals properly. Halfway through the race they slipped off and she tumbled into the sea! The dolphins had to nudge her back to shore."

Perseus began to laugh with her, "You got saved by dolphins? That's awesome!"

Diana grumbled, "It wasn't awesome, it was humiliating."

Hippolyta smiles, "She refused to leave her room for a week."

As Diana continued to grumble the doors to the throne room opened and someone walked in, Hippolyta stood up and was about to ask who was there until she saw who it was and smiled.

"How was your match, Donna?"

She smirked confidently, "I won of course." Then her eyes focus on Diana as she rushed over and gave her a hug, "Welcome back! You're here to finally take me with you right??"

Diana looked confused and turned to her mother, "You didn't tell her?"

"Tell me what?" Donna asked, then Diana grabbed her by the shoulders and turned her to face Perseus.

Perseus waves at her as she turned back to Diana and asked, "Who is that?"

Perseus points a finger gun at her and grins, "I'm your nephew!"

Donna looked at Perseus blankly, walked towards him, cupped both hands on his face, and began inspecting him. "Hmm, you have her eyes but not her nose… who's your father?

"Giovani Zatara." Perseus states but his mind began to wonder, he hasn't seen his father, much less his sister, since the day he met them.

Donna's eyes widen in recognition, "A member of the league?" She turned to Diana dragging Perseus by his face with her and holding him up to her, "He looks 15! Have you been hiding him from us for that long!"

Diana sighs, holding her head. "It's not like that. The way he came to this world… as well as age is from anything but a normal circumstance. He's technically 17 weeks old!"

Donna blinked and looked down at Perseus still in her hands, "How?"

Diana smiles, "Come with me. I'll tell you over a spar." She turned to Perseus, "Get some rest, we have been flying for a while and it's best to complete your trials with every bit of energy you have."

Perseus gives a lazy salute, "You got it mom."

Diana rolls her eyes and walks out of the throne room with Donna by her side.

"Perseus," Hippolyta spoke up, "Let me show you to Diana's room. We don't have many guests… or any at all, so we don't have any extra rooms." She began leading Perseus to Diana's room.

After a minute of walking Perseus entered a large white room with bronze accents. Perseus looked around in awe, "This is way bigger than my room back home…"

"Do as your mother says and rest up. I'll have Donna grab you when it's time for your first trail." Hippolyta says leaving Perseus to his lonesome.

Perseus falls face first to the bed and seemed to be resting, until he groaned loudly and flipped over, "I'm bored…" He stretches out his hand and focuses his magic until something appears. He smirks and sits up, "Well that's something."

3 Hours Later…

A knock echoed on the room door before it opened, Perseus scrambles to dissipate his magic and once Donna enters all she sees is silver motes of light disappearing from his hands, the bed, and the floor.

"What was that?" Donna asked before shaking her head, "Nevermind come with me. Your first trial is about to begin."

Perseus nods his head and begins following her while asking questions, "Where is the trial being held?"

"Sparring field."

"What's the trial about?"

"That's something mother should tell you."

"Who won? You or mom?"

Donna smiled, albeit it was strained, and her face was full of bruises, "I did of course!"

Perseus stares blankly at Donna and little by little her confident façade breaks away and she sighs, "She won, but it was close!"

"Right…" Perseus looked at her not believing a word.

"It was!" Soon they made it to the sparring field and there was hundreds of Amazons surrounding the field and at the center was Hippolyta waiting on Perseus. As he walks toward Hippolyta, he could hear the various mumbles of Amazons asking questions about him, but he ignored it all and focused on his grandmother.

"Perseus Zatara Prince! Your first trial shall be standing firm against a golden chariot." Hippolyta declared.

Perseus nods, "Alright." And positions himself in front of the chariot arms stretched out.

"Begin!" Hippolyta shouts. As soon as she said that the chariot came blazing across the field toward Perseus, as it got closer he tensed his arms preparing for the impact but all he felt was a light push, he looked and saw that the chariot stopped and Hippolyta declaring, "Perseus has passed his first trial, his next trial that will test his skill rather than strength will begin tomorrow."

Perseus looked confused, "That's it?"

Hippolyta smiled, "You are as strong as your mother and maybe even stronger."

Perseus smiles and heads back to his room excited for the next trial.

A/N: Posting this early because this might be the last chapter for a while. My second year of college just started back and I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. I will be working on this behind the scenes to both stack upon chapters for you all and to practice my writing. See you all later!
