Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 22: THE UNSPOKEN TROUBLE

Relief surged across Luna's face the moment her eyes met John's.

Without a word, she rushed forward and threw her arms around him, holding him in a desperate, trembling embrace. Her entire body shook as sobs wracked her frame, tears flowing freely down her cheeks.

"John, promise me," she cried, her voice muffled against his chest.

"You… you won't leave me again, will you? Promise me. Please."

Her grip tightened, almost painfully, as if she feared that the moment she let go, he might vanish again—like a dream dissolving into morning light.

Awkward, but deeply moved by her emotion, John gently patted her back.

"Yes, yes, Luna," he murmured, his voice quiet but sincere.

"I'll never leave you. I promise."

She didn't respond immediately. For a few long seconds, she simply clung to him, allowing the comfort of his presence to quiet the storm inside her. Finally, she pulled back, her face tear-streaked, her eyes red and swollen. But now a different kind of urgency sparked in her gaze.

Her hands moved to his arms, then to his face, inspecting him as though to confirm he was truly real and unharmed.

"John, we were also attacked, weren't we?" she asked breathlessly.

"So how am I alive? You look fine too… so what exactly happened there?"

John opened his mouth to respond, but before he could form a single word, Dr. James stepped in. His tone was calm but edged with authority.

"Leave all that for now, Luna," he said.

"You probably don't even realize what your brother has just done. It's good—very good—that both of you are alive."

John frowned slightly, confused by the doctor's cryptic words. Luna, however, turned toward Dr. Thomas, who now joined the conversation with a casual, almost knowing smile.

"Don't dwell too much on how you came back safe," Dr. Thomas said.

"And as for what your brother has done… why don't you go to school and find out for yourself?"

The room grew still for a moment.

Dr. James's earlier comment hung in the air, casting a growing shadow over the fragile calm. Luna blinked at them, her gaze flickering between both doctors, confusion morphing into unease.

"John…" she turned back to John, her voice tinged with dread.

"You haven't done anything at school, have you?"

John hesitated, unsure what to say—unsure even what could be said.

But before the silence could stretch further, the door opened once more with a soft creak.

And in stepped a figure neither of them had expected.

"Principal Anthony?" Luna gasped, taking a step back in surprise.

"You… you're here? Wait, has John created some big trouble at school?"

Her voice trembled with disbelief, and she glanced between her brother and the towering man who now entered the room—an expression of confusion and growing dread on her face.

Because Principal Anthony wasn't just the head of their school. He was the one person who never involved himself in student matters unless something major had happened.

And right now, he was standing in the middle of a hospital room.

Looking straight at John.
