"Yes," she said, wiping her tears quickly. "Help me with the funeral arrangements. Also… speak to the guards. Tell them to release Queen Fortuna. She will attend the funeral."
I froze. I wanted to protest. I wanted to tell her it wasn't necessary. But I held back the words and simply nodded. There was no point in arguing with someone who had already been through enough.
As soon as I stepped out of her room, I kicked the leg of the table by her door in frustration. It didn't move. Instead, pain shot through my foot. I stood still for a moment, biting back my anger. Why was she letting Queen Fortuna go?
Still, I was going to do it. I would follow her wishes, even if deep inside, I knew it wasn't fair.
"Now that she's done with Mother," I said bitterly to Marissa, "Queen Fortuna will come for me next."
