Chapter 153 - Chapter 153: Golems: Cavalry Series

Chapter 153: Golems: Cavalry Series

Even though Virt wished he could just live in the secret chamber, daybreak meant Monday, and they had classes to attend.

So, even though they'd gained nothing, they still had no choice but to exit the secret chamber and quickly return.

They were ambushed!

It was an uncountable swarm of black bats!

The secret passage suddenly lit up, revealing bats hanging upside down from its ceiling. The bats swarmed the two before they could even react.

Robert frantically waved his arms, trying to shoo away the bats.

Meanwhile, Virt clutched a freshly drawn Magic Card and hunched into a defensive crouch, covering his head.

The bats flew directly at them, briefly touching them before darting away and vanishing instantly.

Out of instinct, Virt summoned his Troll, but the bats only reappeared once he recalled it.

Pursued by the swarm of bats, the two frantically fled, their legs numb with exhaustion, finally reaching the outer section of the secret passage.

Upon reaching it, the bat swarm vanished again without a trace.

But immediately after, they blundered straight into the Golems' patrol range!

The Golems used for patrol at St. Marian came in multiple models, the "Heavy Cavalry" and "Light Cavalry" types being the most common.

The "Heavy Cavalry" Golems stood at an average height of 2.2 to 2.3 meters and were a meter wide. Moving using wheels and spider legs, they were specialized for defense and moved relatively slowly. Wielding two-meter cavalry lances, they excelled at sweeping attacks and direct thrusts.

An enchanted gem on their forehead allowed them to unleash a "Paralysis Ray."

The "Light Cavalry" Golems, on the other hand, were lighter and more nimble. They also moved with wheels and spider legs, though their spider legs were more advanced, capable of clinging to walls!

The "Light Cavalry" primarily wielded twin swords, and their waist axis could rotate 360 degrees. Their movement speed was quicker—though in practice, not significantly so.

Unlike the "Heavy Cavalry," the "Light Cavalry" possessed no long-range magical abilities.

As alchemical creations on the verge of obsolescence, Golems were already rare on the market, primarily serving as guardians in ancient castles.

The Golems at St. Marian were largely maintained by Professor Kazel alone, which often led to functional issues.

Still, this didn't prevent them from wielding enough deterrent power over the young Magitech Masters.

It was the same principle as elementary school students instinctively fearing being caught by their teachers when breaking school rules.

After blundering into the Golems' patrol range, Virt and Robert didn't even entertain the thought of resisting before panicking and fleeing.

Using their familiarity with the secret passage, the two managed to avoid a direct blockade, but the Golems pursuing them from behind only grew in number.

When they finally managed to burst out of the secret passage, the two gasped for air, thinking they could finally relax.

Only to find themselves face-to-face with the Golems patrolling inside the castle.

"So this is the view at four in the morning, huh?"

Watching Virt and Robert flee onto the bridge, pursued by Golems, Dark slowly stifled a yawn.

Another "Heavy Cavalry" Golem appeared from this side of the bridge, forming an interception with the Golems pursuing them from behind, effectively trapping the two on the bridge.

Their perfectly normal academy life had turned into something akin to a dungeon adventure, all thanks to them.

Virt and Robert stood back-to-back, clutching their Magic Cards, their gazes filled with trepidation.

Dark watched from upstairs, without the slightest intention of intervening.

Getting caught for breaking school rules was something one should be mentally prepared for before even deciding to break them; it was a responsibility one had to bear.

Just like for Dark himself, the same applied.

He slowly turned, looking towards another Golem that had been attracted by the commotion of Virt and Robert!

This Golem was neither a "Heavy Cavalry" nor a "Light Cavalry" model, but a higher-tier "Dragon Cavalry"!

"Unauthorized unit detected!"

"Unauthorized unit detected!"

"Initiating capture!"

"Initiating capture!"

The enchanted gem on the Golem's forehead flickered with a scarlet glow.

Adding a touch of grimness to the dim early morning hours.

Dark reached for his card pouch.

He had read up on the academy's Golems.

The "Dragon Cavalry" Golem's construction was more intricate than that of the "Heavy Cavalry" and "Light Cavalry," boasting significant functional improvements.

Its armor, though seemingly light, was sturdier than the "Heavy Cavalry's" heavy plate.

A humanoid metal skeleton provided support, making the "Dragon Cavalry's" limb movements much more agile.

It was like a true human warrior, wielding a blunt greatsword capable of unleashing powerful air currents!

And the enchanted gem on its forehead could unleash a "Gravity Ray"!

Upstairs and downstairs.

Inside the castle and on the bridge.

The curtain of battle was simultaneously drawn!

"Magic Guide Summon!" X3

Though slightly staggered, all three summoned their respective Magic Spirits.

Dark's Magical Beast: Eevee.

Virt's Troll.

Robert's Half-Mechanical Ratman.

The successive appearance of the three Magic Spirits instantly shifted the dynamics.

Dark no longer paid attention to the two on the bridge. After summoning his [Magical Beast: Eevee], he immediately started running.

Almost simultaneously, a pitch-black beam of light unleashed from the "Dragon Cavalry's" forehead grazed past him!

Where Dark had originally stood, the air shimmered with a clear distortion.

He only took one glance before immediately raising [Lust Guard] high!

The burst of pink light from the card instantly pierced through the pre-dawn gloom.

"Evolve!"

The emblem of Lust appeared on Eevee's forehead, and its entire form twisted and shifted within the light.

[Magical Beast: Umbreon] leaped out!

Then, in a flash, it pounced on Dark himself!

"Hmph!"

Though expected, Dark still felt a twitch in his forehead.

He continued to run, his third Magic Card already in hand.

After its Gravity Ray missed, the "Dragon Cavalry" roared and surged forward instantly!

The greatsword, wreathed in air currents, sliced through a perfect arc, fiercely cleaving towards Umbreon!

The Golems' built-in circuits were programmed to prioritize attacking Magic Spirits.

And students, as long as they didn't resist, wouldn't be harmed.

But Dark, clearly, wasn't one to simply abide by the rules.

The Magic Card in his hand glowed, propelling his body two meters away, completely misaligning him with Umbreon's position.

Umbreon, unable to react in time, took the greatsword's slash from the side and, amidst the violent air currents, slammed hard into the wall.

Its magic power rapidly plummeted.

But after sliding down the wall, it let out a roar, finally turning its attention towards the "Dragon Cavalry"!

Seeing Umbreon finally able to exert its combat power, Dark immediately issued a command.

Umbreon then sharply tilted its head back, dark power rapidly condensing in its mouth, before instantly unleashing a pitch-black sphere!

"BOOM!"

The "Dragon Cavalry's" reaction was incredibly swift; its raised greatsword actually batted away the Shadow Orb!

Umbreon's four paws gripped the ground, its body slightly lowered, revealing a vigilant stance.

And at this very moment, Dark had already successfully put a safe distance between them.

This was clearly an excellent opportunity to test his [Magic Cards]!
