My phone buzzed on the counter just as I was about to crack an egg into the pan. I didn't even check the caller ID—just swiped to answer.
"Billie—Billie—it's Luxuria—it's bad, something bad happened!" Riana's voice came through in panicked sobs, words tumbling over each other like an avalanche.
My heart stopped mid-beat. "Wait—what? What happened?"
"She—her taxi driver—he was drunk! The idiot was drunk and there was an accident! He's dead, but she—she's alive, Billie. She's at St. June's, and she's—she's losing a lot of blood—"
"I'm coming right now." I didn't even let her finish. The egg cracked onto the floor as I grabbed my keys. Behind me, Lexus's voice came in low and steady.
"What happened?"
I didn't have time to argue or explain. "It's Luxuria. Accident. She's at the hospital."
He didn't ask anything else. Just grabbed his jacket and followed me out the door like a shadow.
