"Uncle, I had so much fun," a tiny voice chirps near Don Nero.
I turn and nearly melt at the sight of the little girl standing beside him, beaming up with pure sunshine energy. She looks about Luna's age, maybe a bit taller, with the same glittery face paint and sparkly shoes. Only, unlike most of the sugar-hyped kids around here, this one's calm. Poised. Like she's been trained to be a mini princess diplomat.
She looks at me, still smiling. "Thank you for the party, Mrs Knight. You look so pretty. Like a princess. Happy birth day to you."
Oh no. Compliments from adorable children? She's so adorable.
"Thank you, sweetheart," I say, bending slightly. "Would you like to join me and Luna for a picture?"
"Yes, please!"
I blink. So polite. So sweet. She's literally a cupcake in human form.
And her uncle is Don freaking Nero—the kind of man who can order a hit while sipping espresso. What did he do, raise her on bedtime stories and body count stats?
