Hearing the sound of a car halting outside her small dilapidated building with a loud horn,Mrs Ava a short light-skinned Amazon was able to dictate that it was George her late husband's brother. Ava has been a widow for seventeen years. She lost her husband immediately after birthing Clara raising suspect and hate treatment from the people living together with her in the small town .she was generally isolated by everyone as she was accused of being a Jinx.
George was the only person who had her back and he also assisted in the upkeep of her kids:Clara,Jack and Bob. He was a tall dark-skinned energetic chap around the age of fifty but he still looked like a young dude in his early thirties.He was a sweet and kind gentleman who had keen in helping and this drove him into owning an orphanage where he saved the lives of many dying kids.
" Hi there" George grinned coming out of his car.
"George...it has been so long (made an obvious grin) I wonder why you're here" she paused making an eye contact with George.
" Oh....I think you know I'm here, but before discussing the reason behind my visit, I think you should invite us in" George said chuckling.
"Silly me ! Please pardon my abrupt behaviour and come in" Ava invited with an embarrassed smile.
She followed George to the boot of the car as he uploaded some food items handling them to her.Then,his car door opened and two teenagers stepped out of the car with a slight arrogant look. They were later identified as George's children:Luna and Harry.
"What a surprise ! It has been so long I've missed you guys" Ava made a mammoth grin embracing them.
"We've missed you too aunt" Luna replied sarcastically rolling her eyes in disgust.
Ava invited them into her shack.They sat down staring awkwardly at each other with a creepy silence.
"Um..... forgive me ! The house is a little bit messy" Ava smiled in a Gauche
"That's really nothing, don't vex yourself about that" George beamed.
"So...what would you like to eat?" Ava inquired with a curious look. George glanced at his kids as he turned facing Ava.
"Don't trouble yourself about me,I had lunch before coming here (turned to his kids) Luna,what would you and your brother like to have?" George demanded. Luna gazed at Harry for a while and he made a gesture telling her he needed nothing.
" I think we're fine dad" Luna smirked.
"Okay....I think we're cool so..... where's Clara? Coz, I'm actually here for her ( paused) I know it has been a tough spot taking care of this children all by yourself though,you've had a little aid from me but my point is,I feel it's best if Clara join us at the Urban area. There I'll get her enrolled in the best schools and she'll be generally taken care of by me " George affirmed.
"Um.....I don't know.....of course that sounds like a perfect idea but I'm just a bit uncertain. I don't want Clara to be a burden to you. I mean,you already have a lot of responsibility to take in so..." Ava was interrupted by George.
"Clara can never be a burden on me, she's my late brother's daughter and she's literally my daughter and so,I think it's best for her to come with us"
George said staring at Ava who made an eyeball at Clara stepping into the shack with her crony Alice. Seeing George,she instantaneously became elated as she hared towards him encircling him with an enfold.
"Gosh..... I'm so thrilled to see you uncle "Clara grinned
"I can clearly see that " George gleed asking Clara to sit down which she did with full curiosity.They talked about Clara going to the urban area and her happiness knew no bounds. And to her surprise,she was going that very day,it was so sudden and unexpected she couldn't think straight as she had already started to pine for her mum and brothers.
After finalizing Clara's journey,she was given an alone time with her chum Alice. Clara and Alice have been friends for years and they were literally so attached to each other and so,they sat down melancholy staring at themselves almost in tears.
"Hey.....cheer up pal" Alice said in an attempt to lighten up the atmosphere but she was heavy hearted deep down.
"I'm pretty sure you're gonna love the urban area (paused) I've heard a lot about it" Alice continued.
"Hmm... this is all just so sudden,I ain't got enough time to bid my mum and brothers farewell (paused) and.... (Her mood immediately altered) I've never been out of this small town of mine before. And my cousins? ( Chuckled) They abhor me. They can't even stand being close to me " Clara sighed depressed.
"That really shouldn't bother you.... I'm sure you'll be fine and you're lucky to have such a caring uncle. I'm pretty sure he won't let anyone bully you (Clara smiled gazing at Alice who had bulged eyes) but I'm sure gonna miss you" Alice enfolded her tightly. She patted Clara gently as she sobbed lightly. They shared some alone and sober moment together unable to say goodbye to each other.
And it was finally time for Clara to depart. She couldn't stop crying her eyes out. She hugged her mum and brothers a countless time still unable to say her final goodbye. Looking at Alice,she teared up the more hugging her.
"So dramatic" Luna whispered to herself in a fury.
After sharing some emotional moment, George finally alarmed them about the journey they had ahead. Clara sniffed Finally summoning courage as she turned looking at her mum with a facade beam and with a tearful eyes,she entered into the car and bidded her farewell through the window.
George started the car and he slowly zoomed off. Driving out of the small town was more like coming of the dark because the real life was seen in the urban area. There were variety of things she have heard of but never seen before. Some of it sounded more like a fairy tale. She had just one statement stuck in her head and that was Ava's statement saying:
"Never lose yourself"
Ava made this statement to Clara after hugging her though Clara never really understood what Ava meant by that,she was still determined to harken to the words of her mother.After a long ride,her uncle finally turned his car facing a gigantic mansion,Clara began staring wondering if it was an optical illusion or reality. The gate of the mansion automatically opened by itself giving her a jolt as her mouth slowly widen.
"This wasn't contained in the fairy tales I heard" she whispered to herself.
She has never been to George's house before coz of the feud his wife Harper had with Ava. Harper and Ava were best of friends back in college, Logan (Ava's late husband) and George ( Harper's husband) also attending the same college with Ava and Harper. Harper was in love with George and she was not secretive about it towards Ava. She made it known to Ava that she was amorous for George. And on the other hand, George was in love with Ava.
A day before Prom, Harper had been waiting for George to ask her to go out with him for prom and when it was almost dawn,she asked Ava to approach George and tell him to asking her (Harper) to go to prom with him.
Ava approached George while Harper stayed at a corner peeping. After a long talk with Ava which Harper couldn't clearly hear, George moved closer to Ava and Kissed her fueling up anger from Harper as she immediately came out of the dark slapping Ava and accusing her of betray. And ever since that day, Harper has had great abhorrence for Ava.
Now,as Clara continue to stare, George drove into the mansion as he packed in the Garage. He came out of the car with Luna and Harry,then he opened the car door for Clara as she stepped out in an awe.
"Welcome to my humble home" He smiled at Clara leading her to the living room where they met Harper sitting on the couch. Seeing Clara,she stood up in rage and astonishment.
She took a step forward and gave a hellish smile to George.
" I see you did contrary ( to Clara) welcome to hell"
Harper smirked glaring at Clara who shivered in terror.
