Chapter 60 - S.T.A.R.S Mission

Two days later. All members of Alpha and Bravo team gathered at the R.P.D. office and were currently inside a room, even the members who were on vacation had also come, and as usual, the last to arrive was Albert Wesker.

"Captain, do you know where we'll be carrying out this mission?" Barry asked Wesker.

"I don't really know either since this is a sudden mission." Yes, he was on vacation so he didn't have time to find out what this mission was about, and it seemed Sergei himself was the one who proposed this mission to Brian.

Meanwhile, Allen, Jill, and Rebecca were chatting in the back row. Wesker, who noticed Allen, felt a bit skeptical—why would someone like him be transferred so easily by Sergei to the S.T.A.R.S. team? But Albert Wesker didn't want to get involved in that matter, and he also knew Allen was quite close to his sister, which made him slightly awkward about their relationship—he and his sister Alex Wesker had already agreed not to interfere in each other's business. However, Albert wanted to make sure of one thing first: as long as Allen didn't interfere with his plan to escape Umbrella, then he would also pretend not to know him and just ignore him.

While the others were still talking, Chief Brian and Lieutenant Marvin arrived at the same time, and then they gave the briefing about the mission they were about to undertake.

"This mission is for you to capture someone suspected of being behind the many missing persons cases in the Arklay Mountains. From numerous eyewitnesses, this person is often seen around the abandoned hospital building located in the Arklay Mountains. But I must warn you, most likely this person is extremely dangerous and aggressive because he's said to often chase people with an axe…" Lieutenant Marvin explained the mission at length.

Then at the end, Chief Brian said a few words he wanted to add.

"Okay, since you've heard the briefing about your mission ahead, I hope you succeed in carrying it out. And also Wesker, I'll appoint you as the squad leader for this mission. Be careful and report to us if there are any changes during the mission."

Wesker only nodded and said nothing.

"Okay, I'll add one more thing. I've invited a reporter—she has a lot of evidence related to the reports Lieutenant Marvin just mentioned earlier, and she'll be quite helpful in identifying the suspect. And for this reporter, I'll assign Allen to be responsible for escorting her," Brian said.

Lieutenant Marvin, hearing Brian's words, frowned slightly and wanted to ask him directly about this.

"Hey, this is the first I'm hearing about this. Are you sure this is okay?"

"Don't worry, she's a famous reporter in this city—you've probably heard her name, Alyssa Ashcroft," Brian said to Marvin, who seemed to be debating in the hall.

"Okay, if anyone wants to speak up, please raise your hand," Brian said, his eyes turning to Allen—yes, this was the plan they had already agreed on. Then Allen raised his hand.

"Sir, I'd like to request permission to bring Instructor Svetlana as an additional guard for the reporter. Is that allowed?"

"I don't think that'll be a problem. Okay then, is there any other request?" Brian waited, but it seemed no one raised their hand.

"All right then, I'll be leaving if there's nothing else," Brian said before leaving.

"Okay, I hope you all stay safe and return alive from this mission. I'll be waiting for your return," Marvin then followed Brian.

After that, Albert Wesker, wearing his sunglasses, walked to the podium.

"Very well, you've all heard the mission we'll be carrying out. I expect you to be ready at 8 PM. That means you still have 4 hours to prepare, and we'll be heading to the location using two helicopters." Then Wesker synchronized their watches before leaving, but before that, he approached Allen.

"Allen, can we talk?" Wesker said.

"Sure."

Then Allen followed Wesker to the rooftop.

Once they arrived there, Wesker turned around and asked bluntly, "Were you transferred to S.T.A.R.S. to keep an eye on me?"

"Yes… well, I didn't have a choice since Sergei personally requested it," Allen spoke honestly to Albert.

"Huh… that guy again it seems…" Albert already suspected this—Sergei was always suspicious of him.

"Yeah, Sergei really seems to dislike you, though I don't know why," Allen said, shaking his head while thinking about Sergei. He and Albert truly had a Tom-and-Jerry-like relationship.

"Then about this sudden mission—are you the mastermind behind it? If so, what's your purpose?" Wesker asked with a frown toward Allen. He didn't like things that were outside his control.

"Yeah… regarding that, I am the one who proposed it. My purpose is to gather new data about some viruses that might prove useful for research in the area of our mission," Allen replied, then looked at Wesker.

"Oh yeah, Albert, if you have virus data you're planning to sell to other companies, don't forget to offer it to me. I might be willing to buy some valuable data from you too."

"Why the hell would I do that?" Wesker asked.

"Hey, come on. Alex already talked to me about this, so we don't need to pretend about your plan to betray Umbrella. And don't worry—I won't interfere with that. But if you're open to doing business, of course I won't refuse," Allen said, clearly already aware of Wesker's plan to escape from the company.

"All right, looks like you know quite a lot. But I hope we don't interfere in each other's affairs. About business, I'll contact you if I get something," Albert agreed with Allen on that matter.

"Okay, deal then."

After their conversation, Allen returned to where Jill and Rebecca were. By now, they were already wearing their nano combat suits, which covered almost their entire bodies, accentuating their curves while only leaving the chest cleavage and neck visible. Their outfits were quite striking since their combat suits resembled the style of Black Widow. But unfortunately, they added accessories like vests to cover those parts of their bodies so it wouldn't be too revealing.

Not long after, Svetlana arrived in the same outfit, and Allen couldn't stop staring at her—especially now that her hair was tied back, showing off her beauty.

"Hey, how do I look? Do I look good in this?" Svetlana asked in a teasing tone toward Allen.

"Yes… you look stunning."

"Okay, you'd better stop staring at me for too long, otherwise your wife will get mad."

Meanwhile, Alyssa rushed over after getting out of her taxi. She was wearing a flannel shirt and trekking pants, carrying only a camera, a pencil, and her notebook.

"Sorry, am I late?" Alyssa asked them.

Allen glanced at his watch. "Well, if you'd come 15 minutes later, then you definitely would've been late."

"Thank goodness then," Alyssa said in relief.

Allen then looked at her belongings. "Didn't you bring a weapon?" he asked.

"No," Alyssa shook her head.

Allen handed her one of his pistols along with 5 extra magazines. "Here, you'd better carry this."

"Why are you carrying so many weapons?" Alyssa asked, since Allen was already armed with a rifle, a grenade launcher, two pistols (one of which he had just given to her), and on top of that, in his small backpack, he seemed to be carrying several C4 explosives capable of destroying a tank. His preparations looked more like he was about to start a war than capture someone.

Jill, Rebecca, and Svetlana, seeing this, were also speechless at Allen's loadout.

"Okay, stop asking questions. Let's regroup, the others are probably already waiting."

And when Allen joined the rest of the squad, they too were speechless seeing Allen's gear, as if he was ready to fight in the Middle East.

Allen also handed out thin transparent glasses to Jill, Rebecca, and Svetlana.

"These glasses can function to see in the dark and detect infrared to pick up movement…" Allen explained to them.

"Hey Allen, why are you bringing so many weapons?" Barry asked, carrying only a magnum revolver at his waist.

"Well, this is my first mission, so I don't really know what I should bring," Allen replied honestly. The truth was, he was nervous—this was his first time doing something like this, and thinking about the monsters they'd be facing later made him feel it was natural to be this prepared.

Barry shook his head, then noticed something on Allen's belt. "Hey, is that a flashlight? Don't you already have one on your vest?" Barry asked about the object that looked like a flashlight, though in reality, it was a Lightsaber powered by several mini arc reactors—an upgraded version that could last up to 15 minutes compared to before.

"Yeah, you could say that," Allen answered, a little unsure of what to say.

"Well, whatever. But you don't need to be so nervous about this mission. After all, you'll be assigned to Bravo Team as a medic, so most likely you won't be fighting directly on the front line," Barry said before walking away.

...

News about the S.T.A.R.S. members' mission to head to the abandoned hospital in the Arklay Mountains had leaked to several parties, including the military—especially regarding their mission to possibly capture the main suspect behind the many disappearances in Raccoon City.

Echo Six members, who received the report, were then ordered by their superiors to move to the Arklay Mountain area. Crispin Jettingham, as the team leader, contacted his members to gather and prepare to head to the Arklay Mountains.

"It looks like we've been assigned to follow S.T.A.R.S. and collect the same information," Caroline said to Sienna.

Sienna just stayed silent, staring out the window.

"Are you worried about your boyfriend?" Caroline asked—yes, she seemed to understand something, since her friend's behavior had slightly changed after being given the mission to approach Allen.

"He's not my boyfriend, okay," Sienna denied—well, at least they really were just friends at this point.

"Ohhh… but your behavior lately is a bit strange. Do you like your target?"

But Sienna didn't answer Caroline and chose to remain silent. Caroline, seeing this, felt a bit worried because they were currently on a mission, and she didn't want her partner to be distracted by things like this. But she also understood the situation.

"No matter what, I hope you can focus on our mission first," Caroline said.

"I understand that, don't worry—I get it," Sienna replied.

Hearing her friend's answer, Caroline just shook her head, started the engine, and drove toward the location they had agreed on for the rendezvous.

Meanwhile, Ada Wong, who received the information, just stared at her glass of drink and thought about something.

"Will he be okay…"

Then Ada decided to get up, head to her car, and leave—this time she had already prepared some equipment, such as the sniper rifle placed on the passenger seat. She then drove toward the location where the S.T.A.R.S. members were heading.

....

Meanwhile, in the helicopter, Allen was with Rebecca, Svetlana, Alyssa, and the other Bravo Team members.

"Okay everyone, get your weapons ready. We'll be arriving at the destination soon. You are authorized to shoot if you see anything suspicious," said Enrico Marini, the captain of Bravo Team.

Allen, hearing this, then looked out the helicopter window—by now, the forest area of the Arklay Mountains could already be seen directly below them. The forest was vast, especially with the many wild animals that roamed the area at night. Allen didn't know how many of those animals had already been infected with the T-Virus, but he wasn't worried about it and stayed calm.

Svetlana, seeing how calm Allen was, felt quite impressed with him. She knew the dangers in those mountains well enough, because she was familiar with Alex—she could learn certain secrets, especially regarding the bioweapons Umbrella was working on.

"We'll be landing soon, everyone get ready," said Kevin, who was the pilot for Bravo Team.

After exiting the helicopter, Allen checked his weapons and equipment once again to make sure everything was functioning normally.

"Hey Allen, you can relax, no need to be that serious," Enrico said.

After that, they regrouped with Alpha Team, who were also preparing to explore the area and secure their landing zone.

"Hey, I think I found something," said Joseph from Alpha Team.

Everyone immediately focused their attention on Joseph. "Is this… a dog leash?" But on the leash, there were bloodstains smeared across it.

"Damn, is this blood?" Joseph's expression, along with the others', turned grim—it seemed their mission wasn't going to be as simple as just a normal capture operation.

Wesker, observing from a distance behind his sunglasses, looked a little more serious at this. A T-Virus outbreak would likely be impossible to stop and would require a nuclear bomb from the government to contain the spread further.

Wesker's decision to escape from Umbrella only grew stronger, and he was already sick of dealing with Spencer's nonsense—constantly being watched and controlled.
